By 2020, it is estimated that the total number of Internet-connected devices being used will be between 25 and 50 billion. As these numbers grow and technologies become more mature, the volume of data being published will increase. The technology of Internet-connected devices, referred to as Internet of Things (IoT), continues to extend the current Internet by providing connectivity and interactions between the physical and cyber worlds. In addition to an increased volume, the IoT generates big data characterized by its velocity in terms of time and location dependency, with a variety of multiple modalities and varying data quality. Intelligent processing and analysis of this big data are the key to developing smart IoT applications. This article assesses the various machine learning methods that deal with the challenges presented by IoT data by considering smart cities as the main use case. The key contribution of this study is the presentation of a taxonomy of machine learning algorithms explaining how different techniques are applied to the data in order to extract higher level information. The potential and challenges of machine learning for IoT data analytics will also be discussed. A use case of applying a Support Vector Machine (SVM) to Aarhus smart city traffic data is presented for a more detailed exploration.展开更多

This paper explains how technology and financial innovation transformed the mortgage loan from a local security into a premier global security traded worldwide. It examines the fundamental flaws of this process and why it does not work in regards to mortgage lending and the re-securitization products that were created through financial innovation. The findings show that regulation was unable to keep pace with financial innovation, which created an environment where actors in the financial service sector were able to behave geographically irresponsibly by using information asymmetries to their advantage by par- ticipating in moral hazard activities and engaging in other immoral and unethical business practices that were centered around localized geography, which ultimately contributed to the global financial crisis. It also examines the roll of financial innovation in regard to the Lehman Brothers Mini-Bond in Hung and its role as a driving force behind China's newly emerging shadow banking sector. It concludes with a policy recommendation and its implication for China's continued economic development.展开更多

This study, using official structural business statistics from Ireland, suggests that in fact family businesses may account for a considerably smaller share of the business economy, something closer to 46%. This paper attempts to explain how such a discrepancy can arise. Using the Annual Services Inquiry compiled by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) as the anchor dataset, micro data are linked to the e-Commerce and ICT survey, Community Innovation Survey and VAT registrations datasets in order to determine whether labour productivity in Family Businesses (FBs) is significantly different to that of Non-Family Businesses (NFBs) and if Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) or innovation has an impact. The paper also highlights the significant impact that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) makes to the Irish economy. This analysis is particularly relevant for a small open economy like Ireland where 31% of traded services GVA and 15% of employment is generated by multinational enterprises.展开更多

In this study, the connection between organizational innovation (OI) and OL within the inf3rmation and communication technology (ICT) industry in Malaysia is surveyed. These relationships are examined, because various previous inquiries have shown that an imperative precursor to firm performance is OL. Two hundred and seventy-eight surveys were completed by small and medium organizations across Malaysia. The connections existing between the causes of OL and the causes of OI were ascertained by using structural equation modeling (SEM). Amongst the Malaysian small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that participated in fire study, OI and OL are considerably linked.展开更多

Accordingly, this paper suggests an evaluation of the impact of technological and organizational innovations on the economic performances of the Tunisian firms (productivity and employment) in the period between 1997 and 2000. The technological innovations are approximated by the investments in software and hardware, and those are related to the organization of the costs of subcontracting.展开更多

In the information age, the innovative technologies of mobile devices make the dramatical changes in ways of teaching and learning (Atkinson, 2011; Bierstaker, Janvrin & Lowe, 2014, Pittaway, 2012; Yang & Che, 2015). The focus of this study aims to examine ESP college students' English learning performance by using Context Aware Mobile Situated Learning (CAMSL) in Tourism and Hospitality Management field and other majors. The mixed research method is conducted for data collection and analysis. The quantitative data are collected by examining students' learning performance; the qualitative data are allowed to understand the students' perspective toward their role in using the CAMSL with Tourism related content. Eight-three students are randomly selected and divided into two groups: 42 students are assigned in the experimental group A (CAMSL), and 41 students are assigned in control group. Two groups of students receive pretest and posttest to examine their English performance. Besides, twenty students from group A and B are selected for online survey. The survey is mailed directly to students' email account. Results represented by using CAMSL show the significant improvement on students' learning performance. In addition, the survey data indicate the benefits of using the CAMSL help students enhance their academic discourse, develop their learned knowledge to represent their profession, use English properly to speak themselves up, and provide the effectiveness of obtain domain knowledge in future workplace.展开更多

This paper seeks to evaluate the value of the characteristics of orality as applied by Oliver Kgadime Matsepe in his novel Legitaphiri (Unsolved Problem) (2008). This will be done by taking into account the significance of self and community in a developing and changing society. It is important to note that all cultures are born from orality. However, the changes that the self and community undergo have a strong impact on the communications models within the community. This is influenced by the self and community, as the writer expresses his/her views by means of language that is based on a particular community.展开更多

For this, a theoretical logic is approached what levels of business model innovations there are, based on the "business model framework (BMF)" theory by Henry Chesbrough. Based on this theoretical backdrop, this study focuses on KTS's approach to utilize technical events to develop its business model and contribute to the company's earnings and operating cost expenditure. In conclusion, it will show the feasibility and the limitation to upgrade this firm's business model innovation in the smart media business ecosystem based on the last technical event, Internet connected TV.展开更多

Their learning processes and attitudes toward such innovation in their community were also examined. Thirty juveniles, 13-18 years of age in each Hangdong and Maerim districts, Chiang Mai province were employed in the study. Data collections were made through questionnaires, interview, test, group discussion and brainstorming. Analysis and evaluation were carried out with the applications of sufficient economy philosophy, constructivism theory and Torrance's future problem-solving instructional model. Results showed that the learning innovation of hyper-multimedia presented by the use of animation, video, scene and sound with related action script synchronization was considerably effective. With the application of sufficient economy philosophy, the result indicated that performance efficiency (El/E2) was 92.228/9.83 and the adolescents learning processes and attitudes were very good. These included purchasing of moderate ICT equipments, information screening for self-immunity and creative using of internet and ICT morally and ethically according to the computer laws. This independent learning system was properly designed for the juveniles with the right to retrieve the data or stop using at anytime. By using Torrance's approach and constructivism theory emphasizing on brainstorming techniques, it was noted that learning process was very well adopted by the adolescents with high satisfaction. They had good attitudes toward the extension of sufficient ICT cultural using in their community with emphasis on brotherly relationship. Related organizations should educate their parents to instruct the juveniles to use the internet properly and encourage people to be aware of ICT business in order to protect social and cultural problems encountered in the future.展开更多

If CAD technology is first innovation of information technology in construction industry, then the emergence of the BIM technology shall fully deserved to be treated as a second innovation in construction industry. As a new technology which have been introduced to China in recent years, BIM technology already had its major application in foreigner countries .This paper focuses on the current status of BIM technology application in our country, especially on some small and medium enterprises using the traditional BIM technology to handle the project which have complex usage, creative deign and cost limitation. Firstly,we take a deep analysis on the initial application situation. Then we go through the practical application and analyse what benefit can be given to a project from BIM technology. Finally, analyse the problems and solutions in BIM application with consideration of Chinese building engineering development. Only after a careful analysis, a deep understanding of BIM, we can fully understand this new technology and make BIM to give its value to construction project.展开更多
