Decomposition and reconstruction of Mallat fast wavelet transformation (WT) is described. A fast algorithm, which can greatly decrease the processing burden and can be very easy for hardware implementation in real-time, is analyzed. The algorithm will no longer have the processing of decimation and interpolation of usual WT. The formulae of the decomposition and the reconstruction are given. Simulation results of the MEMS (micro-electro mechanical systems) gyroscope drift signal show that the algorithm spends much less processing time to finish the de-noising process than the usual WT. And the de-noising effect is the same. The fast algorithm has been implemented in a TMS320C6713 digital signal processor. The standard variance of the gyroscope static drift signal decreases from 78. 435 5 (°)/h to 36. 763 5 (°)/h. It takes 0. 014 ms to process all input data and can meet the real-time analysis of signal. 展开更多

To reduce the drift error existing in the output signal of fiber optic gyroscopes (FOG), a mathematical model of the FOG output signal is set up; the error characteristics of the FOG output signal are analyzed, and semi-soft threshold filtering is chosen based on the comparison of hard threshold and soft threshold filtering. The semi-soft threshold wavelet package filtering method is applied in the filtering of the FOG output signal. Experiments of the stationary and dynamic FOG output signals filtered with the wavelet package analysis are carried out in a lab environment, respectively. Experiments done with the real-time measured FOG signal show that the method of semi-soft threshold wavelet package filtering reduces the mean square error from 5 (°)/h to 1 (°)/h, so it is effective in eliminating the white noises and the fractal noises existing in the FOG. The novel method proposed here is proved valid in reducing the FOG drift error, satisfying the technical demands of high precision and realtime processing. 展开更多

The S transform, which is a time-frequency representation known for its local spectral phase properties in signal processing, uniquely combines elements of wavelet transforms and the short-time Fourier transform (STFT). The fractional Fourier transform is a tool for non-stationary signal analysis. In this paper, we define the concept of the fractional S transform (FRST) of a signal, based on the idea of the fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) and S transform (ST), extend the S transform to the time-fractional frequency domain from the time- frequency domain to obtain the inverse transform, and study the FRST mathematical properties. The FRST, which has the advantages of FRFT and ST, can enhance the ST flexibility to process signals. Compared to the S transform, the FRST can effectively improve the signal time- frequency resolution capacity. Simulation results show that the proposed method is effective. 展开更多

Based on specific experiment data, the frequency characteristics and spectral energy dis tribution can be obtained. A uniaxial load experiment on coal rocks at different stress rates was carried out, based on the characteristics of acoustic emission (AE) signals in cracking coal rocks, decomposition, de-noising and reconstruction for the AE signals through wavelet packet transform for solving the current problems created by the presence of noise in AE signals and the existing problems in AE signal processing. The results show that the various characteristics of AE signals in coal rocks cracking under different situations can be clearly reflected, after the AE signals are de-noised by the wavelet packet. Compared to dry coal rocks, the number of AE occurrences in damp coal rocks was significantly reduced, as well as the average amplitude. The number of AE occurrences in damp and dry coal rocks clearly increased with increases in the loading rate, but the largest amplitude of the AE signals in damp coal rocks has been reduced. There is no clear evidence of change in dry coal rocks. 展开更多

Due to piping vibration, fluid pulsation and other environmental disturbances, variations of amplitude and frequency to the raw signals of vortex flowmeter are imposed. It is difficult to extract vortex frequencies which indicate volumetric flowrate from noisy data, especially at low flowrates. Hilbert-Huang transform was adopted to estimate vortex frequency. The noisy raw signal was decomposed into different intrinsic modes by empirical mode decomposition, the time-frequency characteristics of each mode were analyzed, and the vortex frequency was obtained by calculating partial mode’s instantaneous frequency. Experimental results show that the proposed method can estimate the vortex frequency with less than 2% relative error; and in the low flowrate range studied, the denoising ability of Hilbert-Huang transform is markedly better than Fourier based algorithms. These findings reveal that this method is accurate for vortex signal processing and at the same time has strong anti-disturbance ability. 展开更多

In order to remove these two major source of noises, we have used the recent powerful DWT (discrete wavelet transform) signal processing in ECG signals which are obtained from MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database. The results indicate that DWT is a good method for filtering noises without changing the morphology of ECG, and can be applied to all types of ECG signals, whether normal or presenting arrhythmias. 展开更多

Due to their non-periodic and non-uniform spectrum, RS are widely used in low-frequency noise processing, Doppler spectrum estimation and time-frequency analysis. However, the traditional method for calculating RS values is rather complex since it requires two numbers' factorization in two arithmetic functions. For a length-n vector, its Ramanujan-Fourier transform usually involves a series of RS values which will occupy O(n2) memory units. Thus, in this paper an approach based on prime-composition is proposed to reduce the complexity of RS calculation to O(n). Meanwhile, the complexity of Ramanujan-Fourier transform can be further reduced from O(n2) to O(n In(In(n))) . 展开更多

In order to sufficiently exploit the advantages of different signal processing methods, such as wavelet transformation (WT), artificial neural networks (ANN) and expert rules (ER),a synthesized multi-method was introduced to detect and classify the epileptic waves in the EEG data. Using this method, at first, the epileptic waves were detected from pre-processed EEG data at different scales by WT, then the characteristic parameters of the chosen candidates of epileptic waves were extracted and sent into the well-trained ANN to identify and classify the true epileptic waves,and at last, the detected epileptic waves were certificated by ER. The statistic results of detection and classification show that, the synthesized multi-method has a good capacity to extract signal features and to shield the signals from the random noise. This method is especially fit for the analysis of the biomedical signals in biomedical engineering which are usually non-placid and nonlinear. 展开更多

Partial discharge detection in power transformers is discussed using a new approach that exploit the broad band of the Rogowski coils and the potential of two signal processing tools: discrete wavelet transform and empirical mode decomposition. Detecting and analyzing incipient activities of partial discharge can provide useful information to diagnostics and prognostics about transformer insulation. So, partial discharge signals embedded in the electric current at ground conductor are measured using the Rogowski coil. These signals are submitted to noise suppression and the partial discharges waveforms are extracted through different ways: using discrete wavelet transform and using empirical mode decomposition. The comparison of these two methods show that the extraction with discrete wavelet transform results in a faster and simpler algorithm than the empirical mode decomposition. But this one produces more precise waveforms due its adaptive characteristic. 展开更多
