Since China was first connected to the Internet in 1994, the development of ICTs in China and around the world has been astonishingly fast, and yet there is a clear 'digital divide' among different regions in China. Although Chinese geogra- phers have paid attention to regional differences in informatization, they usually employ a limited number of indicators, mainly focusing on the Intemet. In fact, infi^rmatization is a much broader concept, covering not only the lntemet, but also mobile phones as well as user ability. In the light of these considerations, this study provides a comprehensive examination of the development of informatization and its spatial differences in China. First, based on a literature review, the paper identifies 29 preliminary indicators for measuring informa- tization, and employs prin,-ipal components analysis and the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to streamline them into 12 indicators to form an ICTs Developmen: Index (ID1). Second, by using the data from provincial statistical yearbooks and the China Internet Network Information Center, the paper calculates the 1191 of each mega-region and each province in 2000-2010, and measures the changing spa- tial differences in the development of informatization in China. Lastly, the paper quantifies the relationship between informatization and economic growth. The empirical results show that the IDI of the western and central China has been increasing faster than that of the coastal region, indicating that the digital divide in China has been narrowing.展开更多

Using models of landscape indices such as diversity, fragmentation, and mean patch fractal dimension, dynamic spatio-temporal changes of landscape patterns of the province were analyzed. The results: ① cropland and forestland were the main landscape types, and forestland became a landscape matrix; ② in the study area, landscapes were distributed unevenly, and there was low heterogeneity, a simple ecosystem structure and a tendency of irrational landscape patterns. There were also simple spatial shapes of patches and strong self-similarities, and in terms of dynamic change analysis, patch shapes tended to be more simple; ③ from 1980 to 2000, holistic landscape fragmentation was low and changed slightly. As far as landscape elements were concerned, the fragmentation of grassland, water area, land for residential area and factory facilities was relatively low; land distribution for residential areas and factory facilities was dispersed; and cropland and forestland were most concentrated-an indication that the trend will continue. Comprehensive effects among human activity, local policy, regional climate and environmental change led to the results.展开更多

An adaptive ant colony algorithm is proposed in this paper to tackle continuous-space optimization problems, using a new objective-function-based heuristic pheromone assignment approach for pheromone update to filtrate solution candidates.Global optimal solutions can be reached more rapidly by self-adjusting the path searching behaviors of the ants according to objective values. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared with a basic ant colony algorithm and a Square Quadratic Programming approach in solving two benchmark problems with multiple extremes. The results indicated that the efficiency and reliability of the proposed algorithm were greatly improved.展开更多

Then, according to whether image registration is done before change detection algorithms, the authors classify the change detection into two categories:the change detection after image registration and the change detection simultaneous with image registration. For the former, four topics including the change detection between new image and old image, the change detection between new image and old map, the change detection between new image/old image and old map, and the change detection between new multi-source images and old map/image are introduced. For the latter, three categories, i.e. the change detection between old DEM, DOM and new non-rectification image, the change detection between old DLG, DRG and new non-rectification image, and the 3D change detection between old 4D products and new multi-overlapped photos, are discussed.展开更多

A new method based on spatialization was proposed for checking and updating metadata to overcome the defi-ciency of text based methods with the powerful functions of spatial query and analysis provided by GIS software. Thismethod employs the technology of spatialization to transform metadata into a coordinate space and the functions ofspatial analysis in GIS to check and update spatial metadata in a visual environment. The basic principle and technicalflow of this method were explained in detail, and an example of implementation using ArcMap of GIS software wasillustrated with a metadata set of digital raster maps. The result shows the new method with the support of interactionof graph and text is much more intuitive and convenient than the ordinary text based method, and can fully utilize thefunctions of GIS spatial query and analysis with more accuracy and efficiency.展开更多
