Urban air pollution is a serious environmental issue that poses adverse impacts on the health of people and the environment in most metropolitan areas. In this paper,we propose a geoinformatics augmented framework of environmental modelling and information sharing for supporting effective urban air pollution control and management. This framework is out-lined in terms of its key components and processes including: 1) an integrated,adaptive network of sensors for envi-ronmental monitoring; 2) a set of distributed,interoperable databases for data management; 3) a set of intelligent,robust algorithms and models for environmental modelling; 4) a set of flexible,efficient user interfaces for data access and in-formation sharing; and 5) a reliable,high capacity,high performance computing and communication infrastructure for integrating and supporting other framework components and processes.展开更多

This paper presents current industry approaches of implementing 3D point cloud data in BIM and VDC （virtual design and construction） applications during various stages of a project life cycle and the challenges associated with processing the huge amount of 3D point cloud data. Conversion from discrete 3D point cloud raster data to geometric/vector BIM data remains to be a labor-intensive process. The needs for intelligent geometric feature detection/reconstruction algorithms for automated point cloud processing and issues related to data management are discussed. This paper also presents an innovative approach for integrating 3D point cloud data with BIM to efficiently augment built environment design, construction and management.展开更多

The description provides a model which includes the culmination of students＇ academic training in an IS curriculum which is part of a Bachelor of Business Administration （BBA） program in an accredited college of business. The course requires an application of technical and business skills, as well as systems development and project management skills--while students are working on an actual IS project for an external sponsoring organization. Rationale for implementing this type of course includes the benefits it provides to the students, the project sponsors, and the IS department providing the course. Feedback from the course is used as integral part of the C1S curriculum assessment process used for accreditation purposes.展开更多
