Patients with clinical picture consistent with parthenium dermatitis for 3 years or more along with positive patch test to parthenium were studied. Patients were questioned regarding the site(s) of dermatitis at the onset and change in localization in the following years. Patients were classified into airborne contact dermatitis, chronic actinic dermatitis (CAD)-pattern or mixed pattern dermatitis. There were 74 patients (49 men and 25 women) with an age range of 22-70 years and the mean duration of 7.7 years. 60 (39men and 21women) patients had airborne contact dermatitis, 5 mixed pattern and 9 CAD pattern at the onset. Of the 60 patients with airborne contact dermatitis, 27 (19 men and 8 women) changed to CAD pattern and 11 (6 men and 5 women) to mixed pattern after an average period of 4.2 years. Of the 19 patients photopatch-tested with parthenium, 3 showed photoallergic reaction and the other 3 showed photoaggravation. Our results suggest that the clinical pattern of parthenium dermatitis undergoes a significant change after the onset, i.e. progresses from airborne contact dermatitis to mixed pattern or CAD pattern.展开更多

Cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS) are generated by the tissueqocalized non-toxic sensitizer upon illumination and in the presence of oxygen. Thus, selective destruction of a targeted tumor may be achieved. Compared with traditional cancer treatment, PDI has advantages including higher selectivity and lower rate of toxicity. The high degree of selectivity of the proposed method was applied to cancer diagnosis using fluorescence. This article reviews previous studies done on PDT treatment and photodetection of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia, ovarian and breast cancer, and PDT application in treating non-cancer lesions. The article also highlights the clinical responses to PDT, and discusses the possibility of enhancing treatment efficacy by combination with immunotherapy and targeted therapy.展开更多

Methods A pair of specific primers of exon 12a of P4HA2 was designed, and the related PCR-reaction system and condition were optimized. Then the recombinant plasmid containing the target fragment was constructed for making standard curve with SYBR green based real-time RT-PCR. Finally, the sensitivity, reproducibility, and specificity of this method were fully estimated. Results The sensitivity of the method was 1.5E + 04 copies/mL of P4HA2 mRNA, corresponding to 10^3 fibroblasts. In addition, existence of 8. 67E + 06 leukocytes could not interfere with the accurate quantification of HELF in the large dynamic range. The intra-assay variability and inter-assay variability both varied in different concentrations, being higher in low concentrations and lower in high concentrations. But all of them were below 13. 76% in variation, which showed acceptable stability of this method. Conclusion SYBR green and specific primer based real-time RT-PCR show up a good quality for quantifying HELF P4HA2 mRNA with good specificity, stability, and high sensitivity. Approximate 10 copies of P4HA2 mRNA per cell in average can be detected by the method. Therefore, this method can be used to deduct fibroblast-associated CMV for correcting CMV inactivation efficiency in leukocytes.展开更多
