Rfd _values, the vitality index, in leaves of K. humilis and P.viviparum grown at 3?980 m were higher than those at 3?200 m. The higher ratio of F v/F o and F v/F m in leaves of K. humilis and P.viviparum indicated that the rate of photosynthetic conversion of light energy increased at higher altitude. Ratios of F v/F o and F v/F m and Rfd _values in K.humilis were higher than that in P.viviparum grown at the same altitude. There were more irregular chloroplasts in leaves of both species grown at higher altitude. Many irregular chloroplasts such as swollen thylakoid, deformed chloroplast envelope, were observed in P.viviparum grown at 3?980 m, but few in K. humilis . These results were discussed in relation to the photosynthetic adaptability of alpine plants and the different adaptive competence between K.humilis and P.viviparum .展开更多

Position of coastal line of the latest Pleistocene transgression in some localities, especially at the center part of PRD is still uncertain. Thus quaternary sandy sediments in the central PRD are dated by OSL Optically Stimulated Luminescence) for determining the ancient coastal line. Samples are from Xiaohushan Hill at the center of PRD, where quaternary sediments deposited on a wave-cut platlbrm consist of two kinds of sediments: marine muddy-silt on the top and alluvial fine-sand in the lower part. The former is dated at 5.0-5.5 ka, which defines the time of Holocene transgression in the PRD. The alluvial fine-sand in the part is dated at 22-26 ka. For the alluvial fine-sand rests directly on a wave-cut platform, thus this wave-cut platform should have been existed before deposit of alluvial sand, i.e., formed during an earlier marine transgression that may have culminated in the sea level high at about 40 ka. The optically stimulated luminescence results are consistent with geological observations and compatible with TL (thermoluminescence) and ^14C ages from the same layers at other localities of the PRD.展开更多

These are premium pearlitic, austenitic manganese (AM) and bainitic rail steels. Rectangular un-notched and notched test specimens were machined from railheads of each material using electrical discharge machining (EDM) and used for the mechanical properties and fatigue evaluation respectively. Bainitic steel has the highest yield strength, ultimate strength, and strain to failure as compared to both pearlitic and austenitic manganese steels. Fatigue studies showed that the crack speed for the bainitic steel is lower than that for the pearlitie and the AM steels over the entire range of the energy release rate. The bainitic steel exhibits a higher rate of crack deceleration in the second stage, as indicated by the lower slope of the fatigue crack propagation kinetics curve in comparison with the pearlitic and manganese rail steels. This attests to the superior fatigue damage tolerance of the bainitic rail steel in comparison to pearlitic and austenitic manganese rail steels. Microstructural analysis of the three rail steels revealed that bainitic steel has a more intricate structure than AM and pearlitic steels. AM steel shows very few signs of being work hardened or toughened, which usually increases the mechanical properties of the material. As the number of alloying elements increase, the microstructure of the steel becomes more complex, resulting in the increase of mechanical properties and fatigue fracture resistance of bainitic rail steel.展开更多

METHODS: Fetal mouse liver cells were characterized by cell surface antigens (c-Kit and CD45/TER119) using flow cytometry. The candidate liver stem cells were sorted by using immuno-magnetic microbeads and identified by -lone-forming culture, RT-PCR and immunofluorescence says. RESULTS: The c-Kit-(CD45/TER119)- cell population with 97.9% of purity were purified by immuno-magnetic microbeads at one time. The yield of this separation was about 6% of the total sorting cells and the cell viability was above 98%. When cultured in vitro these cells had high clone-forming and self-renewing ability and expressed markers of hepatocytes and bile duct cells. Functionally mature hepatocytes were observed after 21 d of culture. CONCLUSION: This method offers an excellent tool for the enrichment of liver stem cells with high purity and viability, which could be used for further studies. It is fast, efficient, simple and not expensive.展开更多
