In such clusters, the separation between the suspended particles is so close that one could not neglect the multiple image effect on the electrorotation (ER) spectrum. Since so far the exact multiple image method exists in two dimensions only, rather than in three dimensions, we investigate the ER spectrum of the clustered colloidal particles in two dimensions, in which many cylindrical particles are randomly distributed in a sheet cluster. We report the dependence of the ER spectrum on the materialparameters. It is shown that the multiple image method predicts two characteristic frequencies, at which the rotation speed reaches maximum. To this end, the multiple image method is numerically demonstrated to be in good agreement with the known Maxwell-Garnett approximation.展开更多

The absorption spectra during laser ablation show a main band, which identifies the dimensions of main particles. The appearance of secondary bands indicates the beginning of an aggregation process with the formation of a small concentration of particles which are spheroid in shape. SEM (secondary electron microscope) images of particle produced with different ablation times confirm the results of absorption measurements. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and cathodo-luminescence spectroscopy indicate a high reactivity of the nanoparticles deposited on a substrate. They react with oxygen in the air forming an oxide layer which reveals a luminescence in the blue region.展开更多

The expressions of the optical forces concerned with the Kerr effect, which affects the refractive index of the medium, are presented. The distribution of the optical forces in the trapping region is simulated and discussed. The results show that the stability of the tweezers depends on the nonlinear coefficient of refractive index, and the optical tweezers could be broken down with a critical value of the nonlinear coefficient of refractive index of the surrounding medium, or with a critical value of the laser intensity, duration of laser pulse, and radius of beam waist. Moreover, these results give us the explanation the stability of the optical tweezers used for the trapped object as biological molecule embedded in the fluid, which is sensitive with Kerr effect.展开更多

Only more recently, gold catalyst scien‐tists have been exploiting the potential of preforming the metal nanoparticles in a colloidal suspen‐sion before immobilisation with great results in terms of catalytic activity and the morphology con‐trol of mono‐and bimetallic catalysts. On the other hand, the last decade has seen the emergence of more advanced control in gold metal nanoparticle synthesis, resulting in a variety of anisotropic gold nanoparticles with easily accessible new morphologies that offer control over the coordination of surface atoms and the optical properties of the nanoparticles (tunable plasmon band) with im‐mense relevance for catalysis. Such morphologies include nanorods, nanostars, nanoflowers, den‐dritic nanostructures or polyhedral nanoparticles to mention a few. In addition to highlighting newly developed methods and properties of anisotropic gold nanoparticles, in this review we ex‐amine the emerging literature that clearly indicates the often superior catalytic performance and amazing potential of these nanoparticles to transform the field of heterogeneous catalysis by gold by offering potentially higher catalytic performance, control over exposed active sites, robustness and tunability for thermal‐, electro‐and photocatalysis.展开更多

The heterostructures were obtained with a chemical mixing method. Scanning electron microscope images show that the samples appear as a homogeneous powder of rutile with carbon nanotubes intercalated in interspaces between the TiO2 grains. Characterization by both X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and cathodo-luminescence analysis show the formation of CO-Ti chemical bonds with a decrease of 0.8 eV in the band gap compared to pure rutile. The consequence of this band gap modification is a strong change in optical properties. Luminescence emission is drastically reduced and absorption in the visible range is increased of about 6% at very low concentration (1%) of carbon nanotubes.展开更多

The d...Our analysis of published results of experiments in the Polar Regions substantiates and further develops our new approach to the photochemical processes in the polar stratosphere involving the charged particles. The dipole interaction of molecules with charged particles, primarily with ions, leads to the adhesion and disintegration of a number of molecules including ozone. Molecules acquire additional energy on the surface of the charged particles, enabling reactions that are not possible in space. Galactic cosmic rays are the main source of ions in the polar stratosphere, their equilibrium concentration at altitudes of 15 to 25 km can reach up ~ (1-5) ~ 103 ions/cm3. Estimations show that if the ozone destruction in the regime of"collision" with ions then the lifetime of ozone will vary from 10 days to 2 months. We suppose that alongside with the chlorine mechanism of ozone destruction there is a mechanism of ozone decay on a charged particle which can act also at those latitudes and altitudes where chlorine oxide CIO is absent, as well as in the night conditions. Here, we demonstrated the close connection of photochemical processes with the dynamic, electrical and condensational phenomena in the stratosphere, in particular, with the accumulation of unipolar charged particles on the upper and lower boundaries of the polar stratospheric clouds and aerosol layers as a result of the activity of the global electric circuit.展开更多

The composites were prepared by a chemical mixing method and characterized by SEM analysis, energy dispersed X-ray measurements, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and cathodoluminescence spectroscopy. The analysis showed that the composites are formed by macro-cluster of aluminum oxide on a network of CNT without formation of chemical bonds at interface between particles. The results are compared with those obtained for a sample of CNT with AI traces (〈 0.5%). They show that only the presence of metal traces changes the nanotubes optical properties, with a luminescence signal centered at about 380 nm. These luminescence signals are caused by the adhesion between CNT and AI micro-clusters that promote the formation of band gap with some local energy levels.展开更多
