In birefringent optical fibers, the propagation of femtosecond soliton pulses is described by coupled higherorder nonlinear Schrodinger equations. In this paper, we will investigate the bright and dark soliton solutions of(2+1)-dimensional coupled higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equations, with the aid of symbolic computation and the Hirota method. On the basis of soliton solutions, we test and discuss the interactions graphically between the solitons in the x-z, x-t, and z-t planes. 展开更多

The light propagation characteristics through the annular coupled-resonator cavity waveguides are systematically analyzed by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method. It is found that this kind of waveguide has more minbands owing to the increasing of the cavity’s size, compared with the traditional line-typed coupled-resonator waveguide. The group velocity of light propagation can be reduced for a further degree when the adjacent annular cavities are interlaced in the perpendicular direction, and a group velocity about 0.00067c (c is the light speed in vacuum) can be obtained. 展开更多

Based on the full vector complex coupled mode theory, a detailed analysis is made on the transmission spectrum characteristics of tilted long period fiber gratings. New transmission peaks are observed, which are located beside the long wavelength side of each transmission peak in the transmission spectrum of normal long period fiber gratings. The emerging transmission peaks are quite sensitive to both the grating tilted angle and the surrounding refractive index, and the corresponding relationship is discussed. Furthermore, a novel sensing characteristic is investigated about the tilted long period fiber gratings, which is related to the transmission resonant wavelength and peak amplitude. 展开更多
