This method resolves the problem of directly measuring the transient characteristics of PCSS in nonlinear mode. The curve of transient voltage shows that the average electric field of PCSS in the lock-on period is always higher than the Gunn threshold, and increases monotonically. By comparing the transient power curves of the PCSS and the electrical source,it is demonstrated directly that the power shortage leads to the PCSS from the lock-on state into the selfturnoff state,so a controllable turnoff of the PCSS in lock-on by changing the distribution of the circuit power is predicted.展开更多

The SC is generated in a 4.2 km conventional dispersion-shifted fiber ( DSF), which is produced with nonlinear effects and group velocity dispersion. The DSF is pumped by an actively mode-locked Er3+ -doped fiber laser with pulse width of 7.97 ps. A novel SC pulse source with a bandwidth up to 125 nm is obtained, which covers the whole C, L bands and part of S band. The stable, narrow pulses with mean pulse-width of 9.7 ps and time-bandwidth product of 0.48 are filtered out across the whole SC bandwidth. This supercontinuum pulse source is suitable for future high-speed optical communications.展开更多

In this kind of laser, stable multiwavelengths lasing is achieved by integrating cascaded sampled fiber Bragg gratings(SFBGs) into the laser cavity. To implement actively mode-locking technique, a double-ring cavity configuration is used to assure that the cavity lengths for all wavelengths lasing are identical. Thus, simultaneous mode locking of all wavelengths has been successfully achieved by using the same mode-locking signal.展开更多

The group velocity dispersion is not compensated in the first type of the lasers, while the others are fully done. The timing jitter with the Allan deviation below averaging time of 0.2 s during the distance measurement for around 1 m of both types of lasers were 2.5 ps with 600 nm and 1.6 ps with 200 nm. We concluded that the phase noise resulted from the intra-cavity dispersion is the main contribution for the uncertainty of the ranging in these two types of the lasers.展开更多

The absorption of monolayer graphene can be saturated at lower excitation intensity compared to multilayer graphene, graphene with wrinkle-like defects, or functionalized graphene. Monolayer graphene has a remarkably large modulation depth of 65.9%, whereas the modulation depth of multilayer graphene is greatly reduced due to nonsaturable absorption and scattering loss. Picosecond ultrafast laser pulses (1.23 ps) can be generated using monolayer graphene as a saturable absorber. Due to the ultrafast relaxation time, larger modulation depth and lower scattering loss of monolayer graphene, it performs better than multilayer graphene in terms of pulse shaping ability, pulse stability, and output energy.展开更多

In this work, the selective growth of SWCNTs with a certain mean diameter is achieved by the addition of appropriate amounts of CO2 mixed with the carbon source (CO) into the aerosol (floating catalyst) chemical vapor deposition reactor. The noticeable shift of the peaks in the absorption spectra reveals that the mean diameters of the as-deposited SWCNTs are efficiently altered from 1.2 to 1.9 nm with increasing CO2 concentration. It is believed that CO2 acts as an etching agent and can selectively etch small diameter tubes due to their highly curved carbon surfaces. Polymer-free as-deposited SWCNT films with the desired diameters are used as saturable absorbers after stamping onto a highly reflecting Ag-mirror using a simple dry-transfer technique. Sub-picosecond mode-locked fiber laser operations at -1.56μm and -2 μm are demonstrated, showing improvements in the performance after the optimization of the SWCNT properties.展开更多

The result showed that the phase of the slave laser tracked well with the received transmitting light under different noise level, and the locking precision was limited by the phase readout noise when the laser frequency noise and clock jitter noise were removed. This result was then confirmed by a benchtop experimental test. The required LISA noise floor was recovered from the simulation which proved the validity of the simulation program. In order to convert the noise function into real time data with random characteristics, an algorism based on Fourier transform was also invented.展开更多
