Xue and her husband Chen Shoupeng jointly translated science fiction Around the World in Eighty Days from Verne, becoming the earliest Chinese translators of Verne’s science fiction. The novel was translated by Chen Shoupeng and written down by Xue Shaohui. This way can also explore the “contradiction” in the female consciousness: she actively embraced Western knowledge, but also resisted these theories with a Confucian moral system;she supported feminine but abiding by women’s morals. The translator’s “conservative and open” attitude coexist, which not only recognizes her subsidiary status but also yearns for new things. However, the two sides are not opposite, and are integrated by the translator, echoing the standard of “new woman” in the society at that time. The study of Xue’s Around the World in Eighty Days is not only helpful to understand the social background and the subject of female consciousness, but also beneficial to understand of Xue’s handling and translation methods under the impact of the old and new social thoughts at that time.展开更多
