In this context, efforts toward making employees' knowledge, which is an indispensable value for organizations, accessible and efforts to make it available for work processes and social relations extend new behavioral patterns. Organizational citizenship behavior is an example of such patterns. This paper attempts to explain and discuss interactions between organizational citizenship behavior and knowledge sharing, which is reasoned to have a defining role over it, and to draw attention on the issue. Organizational knowledge sharing, the factors influential on it, and the relationships between the antecedents of organizational citizenship behavior and knowledge sharing are being dwelled upon conceptually展开更多

Democratization process is also accompanied by the rise of a strong civil society, which would together result in more efficient and transparent governments at local levels. This article aims to show the dynamic of democratization process in Indonesia, in which civil societies such as business actors, NGOs (non-government organizations), journalists, scientists, business associations, consumer organizations, etc., play a more apparent role. Focused on the establishment of Private Sector Ombudsman (Lembaga Ombudsman Swasta--LOS) and also its role and responsibility, the author examines how LOS has become an alternative option for consumers to strengthen access to justice. In the last three years, LOS has succeeded in handling more than 200 cases and some of them have been the hottest issues. On the one hand, the emergence of LOS shows that civil society in Yogyakarta has played a significant role in implementing business ethics and good governance principles, and on the other hand, LOS has been proven to be the answer for consumers' needs in which consumers' complaints settled quickly, informal, and free of charge.展开更多

The purpose of this study was to deepen the understanding of the impact these policy changes had on citizens’ organized activities. It focused on the 2016 revision of Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) system, which urged citizens to organize activities to support the frail seniors in their communities. Researchers conducted interviews in the Tokyo from February-March 2016. The subjects were six local officers in charge of LTCI implementation and 10 community members who led the voluntary activities organized as a response to the 2016 systemic revision. This study found that those leading voluntary activities were primarily baby boomers, who were born between 1947 and 1949. They were actively involved in “new voluntary activity movements” in the 1980s, as interacting with a wide range of citizens. However, as they reached the age of 65 or older, they became more focused on developing a comfortable space and collaborating with those similar to them: those who were college graduates, middle- to upper-class, and held white-collar jobs. The disparity based on income level seemed to be emphasized also because the way the 2016 revision of LTCI system was designed.展开更多

Atier 1949, the mass line mechanism fell into disuse; but in today's China, there seems to be a trend toward more openness. Deng-era reforms have decentralized the central government, weakened adherence to Party ideology, and reduced the state's control. In order to deal with diversified social interests, the CPC is renewing and extending the practice of the mass line through state-liceused intermediate organizations. By doing so, the central government is not only creating a channel for interest articulation but also deepening state control and regulation of civil society to ensure that power remains largely centralized.展开更多

The rise of civil society in the international arena and the role of civil society in global politics have received much scholarly attention in recent years. Civil society is playing a role in international development, which has an impact on China in global governance. The vigorous rise of China as a worldwide economic and political player is also a principal theme of present intellectual and political discussions. This paper discusses the rise of civil society in the world and its major contributions, both positive and negative, to world politics, and investigates the implications of the rise of civil society to China in global governance. This study will show that China is engaged actively in international affairs and is promoting good global governance and that China not only plays a constructive role in the international organizations of the United Nations and the World Trade Organization but also plays a part in dealing with some major international challenges. The study argues that the rise of civil society and the rise of China are two important movements in global governance and that these two trends not only serve to increase progressively the effectiveness of the global system, but also will play more important roles in global governance in the future.展开更多
