Based on the statistical analysis of the bus transit travel time, six indices including the coefficient of variance, the width of travel time distribution, the mean commercial speed, the congestion frequency, the planning time index and the buffer time index are proposed. Moreover, a framework for evaluating bus transit travel time reliability is constructed. Finally, a case study on a certain bus route in Suzhou is conducted. Results show that the proposed evaluation index system is simple and intuitive, and it can effectively reflect the efficiency and stability of bus operations. And a distinguishing feature of bus transit travel time reliability is the temporal pattern. It varies across different time periods.展开更多

Delay,as an inevitable real-world phenomenon,is usually ignored in transport network design.A model of urban hybrid transport system with stochastic delay was created on the basis of the idealized public transport sys...Delay,as an inevitable real-world phenomenon,is usually ignored in transport network design.A model of urban hybrid transport system with stochastic delay was created on the basis of the idealized public transport system design.After formulating the total trip time cost composed of accessing time in the sub-region of the city,waiting time at the public transport station,and in-vehicle time in the public transit network,the analytical properties of the total trip time cost function were investigated.The results show that in the urban hybrid transport network design,the total trip time cost reaches its approximate minimum in a δ-neighbourhood of buffer time of 1.5 min,and that through modelling optimal delay in hybrid transport system,the maximal synchronization can be achieved and operational efficiency and passenger satisfaction can be improved.The proposed modelling and analytical investigations are attempts to contribute to more realistic modelling of future idealized public transport system that involves more practical constraints.展开更多

The results show that the process of urban residents improving their living standards is also a driving factor in the increase of their carbon footprints; at the same time, the progress in technology has a positive impact on reducing the carbon footprints of urban residence. This article suggests that some measures, such as promoting energy-saving buildings and central heating supply, and establishing the convenient and comfortable public transport system, should be taken to reduce the carbon footprints of residence and travel in Shijiazhuang city.展开更多

Results indicate that the vibration level in the house was 60 dB or more, a level high enough to warrant complaints, Peculiar geological and geographical features are thought to contribute to the amplification of low frequency (-10 Hz) ground vibrations to irritable levels in these homes even though a distance of≥30 m separates the residential area and the monorail.展开更多

Wi...Combination of a bus system and cable car system can reduce the overall congestion of traffic in urban areas, where surrounding hills or mountains hold larger settlements or tourist and recreational infrastructure. With this kind of integration number of individual car trips can be significantly reduced. In this paper, the authors present an analysis of the pilot project implementation, which was held in Maribor. The authors conducted a limited test trial of two means of transportation, combining them into a single operating transport offer for inhabitants and tourists. Combined transport option proved to be a good starting point for reduction of traffic and parking congestion during winter tourist season and beyond. Method used in the research, in order to gain actual potential of integrating two systems and improving public transport offer, was establishment and implementation of the pilot project in Maribor during January 2011. Data was gathered through interviews of two interest groups. The first covered the users who were brought to the foothills of Pohorje's ski center by bus. The second covered the cable car users that were traveling to the top of Pohorje. For a limited time period, a trial principle of a single ticket was established, which gave ski-pass holders free bus ride on bus line No. 6. With the aim of reducing CO2, test drives of hybrid bus and compressed natural gas bus were conducted alongside many promotional activities with which users were informed of importance of environmentally friendly mobility options.展开更多

However, there is no limit as to the areas of ...Concern for the environmental impact of organizations' activities has led to the recognition and demand for organizations to manage and report on their carbon footprint. However, there is no limit as to the areas of carbon footprints required in such annual environmental reports. To deliver improvements in the quality of carbon footprint management and reporting, there is a need to identify the main elements of carbon footprint strategy that can be endorsed, supported and encouraged by facility managers. The study investigates carbon footprint elements managed and reported upon by facility manager in the UK. Drawing on a questionnaire survey of 256 facility managers in the UK, the key elements of carbon footprints identified in carbon footprint reports are examined. The findings indicate that the main elements are building energy consumption, waste disposal and water consumption. Business travel in terms of using public transport, air travel and company cars are also recognized as important targets and objectives for the carbon footprint strategy of several FM (facilities management) organizations.展开更多

The chemical reaction optimization(CRO) is designed to solve the problem. A shortcoming of CRO is that, when the two-molecule collisions take place, the molecules are randomly picked from the container.Hence, we improve CRO by employing different mating strategies. The computational results confirm the benefits of the mating strategies. Numerical experiments are conducted on the Sioux-Falls network. A comparison with the traditional sequential modeling framework indicates that the proposed approach has a better performance and is more robust. The special features associated with such an urban form lead to unique travel patterns and bus operations. This work develops a process to improve bus transfer efficiency for small conurbations considering their special characteristics. A case study of New York's Capital District is used to illustrate the proposed method. Results show that the transfer waiting time can be remarkably shortened. Promoting active travel behavior and decreasing transport-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have become a priority in many Chinese cities experiencing rapid urban sprawl and greater automobile dependence. Howev...Promoting active travel behavior and decreasing transport-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have become a priority in many Chinese cities experiencing rapid urban sprawl and greater automobile dependence. However, there are few studies that holistically examine the physical and social factors associated with travel CO2 emissions. Using a survey of 1525 shoppers conducted in Shenyang, China, this study estimated shopping-related travel CO2 emissions and examined how the built environment and individual socioeconomic characteristics contribute to shopping travel behavior and associated C02 emissions. We found that, firstly, private car trips generate nearly eight times more carbon emissions than shopping trips using public transport, on average. Second, there was sig- nificant spatial autocorrelation with CO2 emissions per trip, and the highest carbon emissions were clustered in the inner suburbs and between the first and second circumferential roads. Third, shopping travel CO2 emissions per trip were negatively correlated with sev- eral built environment features including population density, the quantity of public transport stations, road density, and shop density. They were also found to be significantly related to the individual socio-eeonomic characteristics of car ownership, employment status, and education level using a multinomial logistic regression model. These empirical findings have important policy implications, assisting in the development of measures that contribute to the sustainability of urban transportation and meet carbon mitigation targets.展开更多

A mathematical model is created including the constraints and the obj...The paper deals with the vehicle scheduling problem related to regional public transport. Linear programming methods are used to solve the problem. A mathematical model is created including the constraints and the objective function minimizing costs and the number of vehicles. A minimum costs and a number of vehicles are forced at the same time by special economical input data analysis and an allocation of costs. Determining of the costs coefficients is done by three methods, which differs primarily by how much of the total costs they take into account. The decomposition of the set of lines into disjoint subsets can be used instead of the "direct" optimization. The decomposition has proven to be a suitable alternative in solving large optimization problems. The problem was applied to optimize vehicle scheduling in the region, which is situated in the north-east of the Czech Republic. There is used Xpress-IVE software, which solve the problem by simplex algorithm and branch and bound method. Research results show that there are large reserves in the organization of public transport. The implementation of the new vehicle scheduling would bring significant costs reductions in amount of at least 10% for the optimal solution and in amount of about 10% for the decomposition solution. The number of drivers could be decreased and the total time of the vehicles being outside the garage could be also reduced by at least 10%.展开更多

To that end, the results of a survey taken in 2003-2004 with a sample of 2000 city residents were reviewed. For ...This paper studies the accessibility of open spaces and facilities and the integration of streets to the whole urban system of the Emirati neighbourhood of the Business District of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Master Plan. For this purpose, axial lines were produced by applying space syntax theory, Depthmap software. The research aims to verify the location of open spaces and facilities, such as schools, in relation to the location of public transportation stops (bus, metro and tram), in order to check their accessibility within walking distances. The objective is to pay attention to the relationship between land use and transportation in the planning phase for future interventions or proposals, in other words, to improve the accessibility of public spaces or buildings by pedestrians in order to comply with the vision of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Master Plan and its promotion of walkability and cycling. Although many measures will be taken at the scale of urban design to provide shaded open spaces and sidewalks, saving pedestrians from walking long distances shall be done in the planning phase, the challenge remains to create a micro climate to increase the ease of walking in the heat and decrease dependence on cars for mobility.展开更多

However, there are few studies that holistically examine the physical and social factors associated with travel CO2 emissions. Using a survey of 1525 shoppers conducted in Shenyang, China, this study estimated shopping-related travel CO2 emissions and examined how the built environment and individual socioeconomic characteristics contribute to shopping travel behavior and associated C02 emissions. We found that, firstly, private car trips generate nearly eight times more carbon emissions than shopping trips using public transport, on average. Second, there was sig- nificant spatial autocorrelation with CO2 emissions per trip, and the highest carbon emissions were clustered in the inner suburbs and between the first and second circumferential roads. Third, shopping travel CO2 emissions per trip were negatively correlated with sev- eral built environment features including population density, the quantity of public transport stations, road density, and shop density. They were also found to be significantly related to the individual socio-eeonomic characteristics of car ownership, employment status, and education level using a multinomial logistic regression model. These empirical findings have important policy implications, assisting in the development of measures that contribute to the sustainability of urban transportation and meet carbon mitigation targets.

文摘To increase the passenger transferring efficiency, the bus coordination holding control for transit hubs, which is as an important dynamic dispatching method for improving the service level of transit hubs, was studied in the framework of bus coordination dispatching mode. Firstly, the bus coordination holding control flow was studied based on Advanced Public Transportation Systems (APTS) environment. Then a control model was presented to optimize the bus vehicle holding time, and a genetic algorithm was designed as the solving method. In the end, an example was given to illustrate the effectiveness of the control strategy and the algorithm.
文摘In this paper it has been investigated the issue of the dynamics of the rural population in villages in the mountainous areas of the municipality of Prilep height distribution of the mountainous villages, the area size, absolute density and agrarian population in hilly-mountainous villages, the distance of the hill-mountain villages of the municipality center and institutional infrastructure hilly-mountainous areas in Prilep. Despite the demographic decline that was made in the past 45 years, the municipality and the country will have even more incentive in the coming years to invest in infrastructure to improve little very bad living conditions and foremost here we think of infrastructure, roads, water drinking, clinics, veterinary stations, public transportation, gas stations, stores, construction of ethnic restaurants and small hotels so that at least the older generations of the cities as the least retirement to spend at home, to create minimum conditions for living and so that villages in hilly and mountainous villages to be attractive to younger generations of the cities and migrant workers from European countries and America Australia frequently to visit home, and to be able to invest in small commercial buildings in the area of tourism.
文摘The paper deals with the vehicle scheduling problem related to regional public transport. Linear programming methods are used to solve the problem. A mathematical model is created including the constraints and the objective function minimizing costs and the number of vehicles. A minimum costs and a number of vehicles are forced at the same time by special economical input data analysis and an allocation of costs. Determining of the costs coefficients is done by three methods, which differs primarily by how much of the total costs they take into account. The decomposition of the set of lines into disjoint subsets can be used instead of the "direct" optimization. The decomposition has proven to be a suitable alternative in solving large optimization problems. The problem was applied to optimize vehicle scheduling in the region, which is situated in the north-east of the Czech Republic. There is used Xpress-IVE software, which solve the problem by simplex algorithm and branch and bound method. Research results show that there are large reserves in the organization of public transport. The implementation of the new vehicle scheduling would bring significant costs reductions in amount of at least 10% for the optimal solution and in amount of about 10% for the decomposition solution. The number of drivers could be decreased and the total time of the vehicles being outside the garage could be also reduced by at least 10%.

文摘This paper validates the effectiveness of a comprehensive mixed media model for effective advertising designed to bring customers into auto dealerships by use of their AIDA (attention, interest, desire, action) model and statistical science to quantitatively assess the effectiveness of various advertising methods using television, newspapers, flyers, direct mail, public transportation, and the internet. This model is applied to a dealership representing a well-known automaker, where its effectiveness is verified.
文摘The analysis of spatial mismatches in access to employment remains a very important area of labour market literature. A particular case is that of the mismatches in urban labor markets, which can result in substantial differences in the employment opportunities available in city centre and suburbs. This study examines the spatial mismatches present in the labour market of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. To that end, the results of a survey taken in 2003-2004 with a sample of 2000 city residents were reviewed. Results confirm the importance of transport policy for city residents; they suggest that public transport linking the different districts to the city centre should be reviewed.
文摘This paper studies the accessibility of open spaces and facilities and the integration of streets to the whole urban system of the Emirati neighbourhood of the Business District of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Master Plan. For this purpose, axial lines were produced by applying space syntax theory, Depthmap software. The research aims to verify the location of open spaces and facilities, such as schools, in relation to the location of public transportation stops (bus, metro and tram), in order to check their accessibility within walking distances. The objective is to pay attention to the relationship between land use and transportation in the planning phase for future interventions or proposals, in other words, to improve the accessibility of public spaces or buildings by pedestrians in order to comply with the vision of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Master Plan and its promotion of walkability and cycling. Although many measures will be taken at the scale of urban design to provide shaded open spaces and sidewalks, saving pedestrians from walking long distances shall be done in the planning phase, the challenge remains to create a micro climate to increase the ease of walking in the heat and decrease dependence on cars for mobility.
