There is a good reason for the neglect. The governments that Marxism spawns are among the most brutal in history. Equally condemnable for a philosopher who bases his theory on a science of historical development, most of Marx's key predictions turn out to be incorrect. What then is left of Marx's principles? This paper argues that Marx is best understood as a critic of the injustice of industrial societies. Marx's essential critical concept is alienation. The paper presents the first complete analysis of Marx's treatment of alienation and offers a brief assessment of how this concept applies to our time.展开更多

Dialogue between Chinese, Western and Marxist philosophies stresses a deep concern about reaching a universal consensus on the "common culture and values" of modern human beings, and aims to provide new ideas for our contemporary existence and development. These may be summarized as a "common existence" centering on the values of ecological commonality and ecological justice; "common action" and "common enjoyment" based on the commonality of justice and the promotion of dialogue; and "co-presence" based on rational inter-subject communication.展开更多

However, to most people, the ML would sound more like an elegant political slogan than an effective method for solving problems. This paper interprets the essence of the ML as a philosophical method of knowing the world, a political method of leadership and a practical method of solving problems. In the new era of rule of law, the ML is also considered as a potential approach to democracy in China. The paper also criticizes the problems of the ML and proposes some suggestions against the comparison with the Western political systems. The paper will provide readers with a more comprehensive understanding of the ML, and the political philosophy in China.展开更多
