It was shown that the addition of lectin to the inoculation compositions intensifies physiological processes in alfalfa plants: increases nitrogen fixing activity of symbiosis, nodule number on roots, as well as chlorophyll and carotenoid content in leaves, enhances plant growth during budding-fruiting period and reduces the negative effect of drought on alfalfa productivity.展开更多

Climate change, population growth, and agricultural and industrial development are increasing demand and pressure on Alberta's water supplies, and the risk to the health and well-being of Albertanso its economy and its aquatic ecosystems. An analytic framework was developed to help determine the adaptive capacity of the public health sector and its ability to cope with changes in climate and water quality and quantity. The framework includes possibilities for changes in public health processes, management, inputs, outputs, structure, financing, institutions, and policies. Research gaps and priorities related to impacts on the health sector from changed conditions of climate and water supply are offered.展开更多

Here, we report mesoporous Faujasite (FAU) zeolite nanosheets with intergrown structure synthe- sized in an additive-free system. The sample was composed of uniform nanosheets with a slice thickness of -50 nm, which held a honeycomb-like structure with abundant mesopores. This material exhibits both microporous and mesoporous structure: the intrinsic micropores with a diameter about 0.74 nm in the zeolite framework and the mesopores with a diameter about 10 nm existing within the zeolite nanosheets. The Si/AI ratios can be adjusted from I.I to 1.9 (zeolites X or Y). In addition, this simple and environment-friendly method may provide inspiration to the synthesis of other hierarchical zeolites.展开更多

Methods: This study was conducted in Fars Province, Iran from November 22, 2009 to November 21,2011. Victims' information consisted of age, sex, death toll involving dri- vers or passengers of cars, motorcycles and pedestrians, and site of injury etc. Accidents were analyzed in relation to hour of the day, season of the year, lighting condition in- cluding sunrise, sunset, daytime and nighttime. Results: Atotal of 3 642 deaths (78.3% were males, and the ratio of males to females was about 3.6:1) were studied regarding their autopsy records. There was a steady in- crease in fatal accidents occurring at midnight to 15:59. The risk of being involved in a fatal traffic accident was higherfor those injured between 4:00 to 7:59 than at other times (OR=2.13, 95% C11.85-2.44). The greatest number of fatal RTAs took place in summer. Mortalities due to RTA during spring and summer were more pronounced at 20:00 to 23:59 and midnight to 3:59, whereas mortalities in fall and winter were more pronounced from 12:00 to 15:59. Conclusion: The high mortality rate ofRTAis a major public health problem in Fars Province. Our results indicate that the time is an important factor which contributes to road traffic deaths.展开更多
