Emotional two-character Chinese words are used as experimental materials. Positive words versus neutral words and negative words versus neutral words are classified, respectively, using the induced EEG signals. The method of temporally regularized common spatial patterns (TRCSP) is chosen to extract features from the EEG trials, and then single-trial EEG classification is achieved by linear discriminant analysis. Classification accuracies are between 55% and 65%. The statistical significance of the classification accuracies is confirmed by permutation tests, which shows the successful identification of emotional words and neutral ones, and also the ability to identify emotional words. In addition, 10 out of 15 subjects obtain significant classification accuracy for negative words versus neutral words while only 4 are significant for positive words versus neutral words, which demonstrate that negative emotions are more easily identified.展开更多

The validation of the model is proved using the result from the solution of Laplace equation. Suggestions on to electrode optimization and explanation to the ill-condition property of the sensitivity matrix are provided based on the model, which takes electrode distance into account and can be generalized to the sensor with any simple connected region through a conformal transformation. Image reconstruction algorithms based on the model are implemented to show feasibility of the model using experimental data collected from the EIT system developed in Tianjin University. In the simulation with a human chestlike configuration, electrical conductivity distributions are reconstructed using equi-potential backprojection (EBP) and Tikhonov regularization (TR) based on a conformal transformation of the model. The algorithms based on the model are suitable for online image reconstruction and the reconstructed results are aood both in size and position.展开更多

The cultural deficiencies symbolized by such "second-hand reading" t'md their expression in three phenomena: first, the audience, eager to become culturally enlightened, find themselves in the passive role of mere receivers of scholars' interpretations of the classics, lacking the role of autonomous readers. Second, the media, motivated by commercial aims, opt for an inappropriate cultural strategy and over-reach their proper role. Third, scholars, taking their orientation from the powerful mass media and following the commercial logic that "the audience is king," settle for a misplaced role and degenerate from being "guides to the best in culture" into merely catering to mass taste. To redress such a situation, our strategy should be to coordinate the universities, public libraries, the media and other public resources in a concerted effort to switch from "second-hand reading" led by the media to self-initiated "autonomous reading," so as to rebuild a public intellectual sphere.展开更多

The term "model" has two layers of meaning: one refers to the uniqueness of China's development road, the other to its exportability and imitability. In terms of the former, China has indeed created a unique developmental model. China's development path was arrived at when the Chinese people finally chose Marxism in the course of their pursuit of national independence and modernization. Its essential character is the choice to follow the socialist road and reject capitalist expansion and enslavement. Globalization follows the unbounded aggrandizement of capital, which brings world politics and economy under the domination of world capitalism. It is against such a background that the uniqueness of the Chinese road of development stands out. At the same time China has no intention of exporting its own model of development. Rather, China's pursuit of harmony, equality and diversity among nations will allow the success of the Chinese road to change current international rules and concepts of global development. In this era of globalization, the Chinese road is of world significance.展开更多
