Ba...To obtain the required articular velocities as lower as possible for the given kinematics of the moving platform, this paper focuses on this kind of articular velocities optimization of 6-DOF parallel manipulators. Based on the inverse kinematic analysis, the H∞ norm of the weighted Jacobian matrix was adopted as the performance index to minimize the articular velocities, and then the optimal design problem was formulated to find a manipulator geometry that minimized the global performance index with the constraints of the workspace and structural parameters limits. Since the optimal design problem is a constrained nonlinear optimization problem without explicit analytical expressions, the genetic algorithm was applied to numerically solve the problem. Simulation results indicate that the articular velocities of the optimal manipulators can be the minimum while the kinematic reauirements of the moving platform are satisfied.展开更多

Objective To understand the perception for the use of cataract surgical services in a population acceptors and non-acceptors of cataract surgery in urban Beijing. Methods From a community-based screening program a to...Objective To understand the perception for the use of cataract surgical services in a population acceptors and non-acceptors of cataract surgery in urban Beijing. Methods From a community-based screening program a total of 158 patients with presenting visual acuity of less than 6/18 on either eye due to age-related cataract were informed about the possibility of surgical treatment. These patients were interviewed and re-examined 36 to 46 months after initial screening. The main reasons for not accepting surgery were obtained using a questionnaire. Vision function and vision-related quality of life scores were assessed in those who received and did not receive surgery. Results At the follow-up examination 116 of the 158 patients were available and 36 (31.0%) had undergone cataract surgery. Cases who chose surgery had higher education level than those who did not seek surgery (OR=2.64, 95% CI: 1.08-6.63, P=0.02). There were no significant differences in vision function (P=0.11) or quality of life scores (P=0.16) between the surgery group and the non-surgery group. Main reasons for not having surgery included no perceived need (50.0%), feeling of being "too old" (19.2%), and worry about the quality of surgery (9.6%). Objective To assess the effects of suction drainage versus nondrainage on the post-operative rehabilitation of patients receiving primary bilateral total knee arthroplasties(TKA).Methods A prospective study including ...Objective To assess the effects of suction drainage versus nondrainage on the post-operative rehabilitation of patients receiving primary bilateral total knee arthroplasties(TKA).Methods A prospective study including 40 patients was conducted.These patients were diagnosed with osteoarthritis and underwent primary bilateral TKA between October 2007 and September 2009 with the same operation team.A suction drainage was placed by randomization in only one knee for each patient,while the other knee as self-control.Pain visual analogue scale score,extremity swelling,wound healing,range of motion and incidence of early post-operative complications between the drained and nondrained group were compared statistically.Results Each patient was followed up for 12 months.Placing drainage did not relieve the pain,extremity swelling,ecchymosis,or reduce the incidence of early complications(all P>0.05).Conclusions Suction drainage in TKA does not exhibit substantial advantages in promoting post-operative rehabilitation after unsophisticated TKA,compared with nondrainage.On the other hand,it might complicate the surgical operation,and increase the incidence of post-operative hemorrhage and retrograde infection.Thus we do not recommend suction drainage in unsophisticated TKA.展开更多

To better understand the role of each region, the relations between city regions need to be carefully studied. In this work, the human mobility relations between regions of Shanghai based on mobile phone data is explored. By formulating the regions as nodes in a network and the commuting between each pair of regions as link weights, the distribution of nodes degree, and spatial structures of communities in this relation network are studied. Statistics show that regions locate in urban centers and traffic hubs have significantly larger degrees. Moreover, two kinds of spatial structures of communities are found. In most communities, nodes are spatially neighboring. However, in the communities that cover traffic hubs, nodes often locate along corridors.展开更多

Mark...Introgression with Saceharum spontaneum intended to broaden the genetic base of sugarcane resulted in an increase in desirable genes for broader adapt ability as well as undesirable genes for high starch content. Markers could provide a quick and efficient method of screening parental genotypes for low starch. The objectives of this study were to identify potential markers associated with starch in S. spontaneum population and evaluate their potential for screening for starch content. Data for starch content and (simple sequence repeats) SSR markers were collected from 51 S. spontaneum clones grown in replicated pots. The mixed procedure of statistical analysis system (SAS) was used to determine markers significantly associated with starch. Thirty-nine out of 357 polymorphic markers were significantly (P 〈 0.05) associated with starch content. Eighteen were positively associated and 21 were negatively associated. The presence of a positive marker produced 39% more starch than absence while the absence of a negative marker produced 57% more starch than presence. Selecting parents using negative markers may be more efficient than selecting using positive markers.展开更多

The azimuthal charge-particle correlations as functions of the temperature are calculated. It is found that there is a pronounced cusp in the correlations as the temperature reaches its critical value for the QCD phase transition. It is predicted that there will be a drastic suppression of the charge-particle correlations as the collision energy in RHIC decreases to below a critical value. We show then the azimuthal charge-particle correlations can be the signal to identify the occurrence of the QCD phase transitions in RHIC energy scan experiments.展开更多

In one-handed Finger Braille, a sender dots the left part of the Braille code on the Distal Interphalangeal (DIP) joints of the index, middle and ring fingers of a receiver, and subsequently dots the right part of the Braille code on the Proximal Interphalangeal (PIP)joints of the same fingers. Because there is a small number of non-disabled people who are skilled in Finger Braille, deafblind people communicate in this medium only through an interpreter. We have been developing a Finger Braille recognition system using small piezoelectric accelerometers worn by the receiver To recognize the dotted positions (DIP or PIP joints), we have made a hypothesis that the dotting on the DIP joints causes a hard impact, and the dotting on the PIP joints causes a soft impact, when the receiver's hand forms a natural longitudinal arch on the desk. The difference of each impact is indicated by its damping amplitude ratio. In this paper, a measurement experiment about the postures of the receiver's hand was conducted. The postures of the receiver's hand were as follows: forming the natural longitudinal arch on the desk and fully contacting the desk. As a result, the dotting on the DIP joints of both postures caused the hard impacts; the dotting on the PIP joints caused the soft impact when the receiver's hand formed the natural longitudinal arch; the dotting on the PIP joints caused the hard impact when the receiver's hand fully contacted the desk. We firstly point out that the circular cuts exhibit different characters in S1/1 and S3/2 waves. While the former contributes negatively to the scattering length parameter, the latter contributes positively, i.e., has a wrong sign. This fact indicates that short range force contribu tions to the phase shift are non-negligible in the exotic channel. Nevertheless, radical changes of the Brazilian nuclear policy in t...Fuel cycle related activities were accomplished in IPEN-CNEN/SP in laboratory and pilot plant scale and most facilities were built in the 70-80 years. Nevertheless, radical changes of the Brazilian nuclear policy in the beginning of 90's determined the interruption of several fuel cycle activities and facilities shutdown. Some laboratory and pilot plant decommissioning activities have been performed in IPEN in the last years. During the operational activities in the decommissioning of old nuclear fuel cycle facilities, the personnel involved in the task had to face several problems. In old facilities, the need of large components dismantling and material removal use to present some difficulties, such as lack of available and near electricity supply. Besides this, the spread out of the superficial contamination in the form of dust or aerosols and the exposure of workers should be as much as possible avoided. Then, the selection and availability of suitable tools for the task, mainly those employed for cutting and segmentation of different materials is of significant importance. Slight hand tools, mainly those powered by rechargeable batteries, facilitate the work, especially in areas where the access is difficult. Based on the experience in the dismantling of some old nuclear facilities of IPEN-CNEN/SP, some tools that would have facilitated the operations were identified and their availability could have improved the quality and efficiency of different individual tasks. In this paper, different cutting problems and techniques, as well as some available commercial hand tools, are presented as suggestion for future activities.展开更多

Tourism industry today is one of the highest revenue generating industry and strategic approach for sustainable development of this industry hosts benefits not only for the tourism related stakeholders but also the community and economy on the whole. Oman is one of the most preferred destinations for the tourists especially after the declaration of Muscat, Arab tourism Capital for 2012. Thus to materialize this honor and position, the scientific study and analysis of tourist behavior will help to predict the future trend of tourism and will give direction for effort investment. This work presents a novel strategy to identify, analyze and highlights the main tourist behavioral factors that could increase tourists' loyalty to a specific destination or agency. The analytical TSS (tourism support system) will also classify customers into two categories--first category will be classified as "LT (loyal tourists)" and second category as "NLT (non-loyal tourists)". Dataset is collected from a tourism business organization. Twenty-four attributes and 545 instances were collected and were analyzed by algorithms like logistics, forest of random trees, naive Bayes, J48 and Id3. The explanatory variables were defined, and some transformations were done to identify the response variable. Entropy was used and adapted in order to find the response variable from the explanatory variables. The results obtained from this work confirm that the generated rules can be used for future prediction and tourism business can be improved and efforts can be directed in right place for the right consumer resulting in high return on investment.展开更多

The analytical TSS (tourism support system) will also classify customers into two categories--first category will be classified as "LT (loyal tourists)" and second category as "NLT (non-loyal tourists)". Dataset is collected from a tourism business organization. Twenty-four attributes and 545 instances were collected and were analyzed by algorithms like logistics, forest of random trees, naive Bayes, J48 and Id3. The explanatory variables were defined, and some transformations were done to identify the response variable. Entropy was used and adapted in order to find the response variable from the explanatory variables. The results obtained from this work confirm that the generated rules can be used for future prediction and tourism business can be improved and efforts can be directed in right place for the right consumer resulting in high return on investment.
