AIM:To investigate gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors among the relatives of patients with gastric cancer[i.e.,gastric cancer relatives(GCRs)].METHODS:We examined the Korean National Health and Nutritio...AIM:To investigate gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors among the relatives of patients with gastric cancer[i.e.,gastric cancer relatives(GCRs)].METHODS:We examined the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2005(KNHANESⅢ) database and compared the gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors of GCRs(n=261)with those of non-GCRs(n=454)and controls without a family history of cancer(n=2842).RESULTS:The GCRs were more likely to undergo gastric cancer screening compared with the control group(39.2%vs 32.3%,adjusted odds ratio:1.43,CI:1.05-1.95),although the absolute screening rate was low.Dietary patterns and smoking rates did not differ significantly between the groups,and a high proportion of GCRs reported inappropriate dietary habits(i.e.,approximately 95%consumed excessive sodium,30% were deficient in vitamin C,and 85%were deficient in dietary fiber).CONCLUSION:The gastric cancer screening and preventive behaviors of GCRs have yet to be improved.To increase awareness among GCRs,systematic family education programs should be implemented.展开更多
Underweight and specific nutrient deficiencies are frequent in adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).In addition,a significant number of children with IBD,especially Crohn's disease(CD) have impaired...Underweight and specific nutrient deficiencies are frequent in adult patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).In addition,a significant number of children with IBD,especially Crohn's disease(CD) have impaired linear growth.Nutrition has an important role in the management of IBD.In adults with CD,enteral nutrition(EN) is effective in inducing clinical remission of IBD,although it is less efficient than corticosteroids.Exclusive EN is an established primary therapy for pediatric CD.Limited data suggests that EN is as efficient as corticosteroids for induction of remission.Additional advantages of nutritional therapy are control of inflammation,mucosal healing,positive benefits to growth and overall nutritional status with minimal adverse effects.The available evidence suggests that supplementary EN may be effective also for maintenance of remission in CD.More studies are needed to confirm these findings.However,EN supplementation could be considered as an alternative or as an adjunct to maintenance drug therapy in CD.EN does not have a primary therapeutic role in ulcerative colitis.Specific compositions of enteral dietselemental diets or diets containing specific components-were not shown to have any advantage over standard polymeric diets and their place in the treatment of CD or UC need further evaluation.Recent theories suggest that diet may be implicated in the etiology of IBD,however there are no proven dietary approaches to reduce the risk of developing IBD.展开更多

The control effects on Cyclops of ...An ecological project called fish biomanipulation, other than the conventional fishery culture technique, was put forward in this paper for the excess propagation control of Cyclops. The control effects on Cyclops of four species of fish were investigated experimentally at stocking density of 30 g per cubic meter of water. The experimental results showed that the food habit of the fish had significant influence on the biological control of Cyclops. The propagation of Cyclops could be controlled effectively and also the water quality was improved simultaneously by stocking the filter-feeding fishes, such as silver carp and bighead carp. Whereas, herbivorous Ctenopharyugodon idellus and omnivorous Cyprinus carpio had no obvious biological effects on controlling the growth of Cyclops and restoring water quality. The results further proved that under condition of proper poly-culture density of silver carp and bighead carp, the number of Cyclops might be controlled at very low level and the eutrophication might be abated by removing the nutrients from water body.展开更多

Especially milk and dairy products are necessary...Human has different stages in their life as from babyhood to adult. The healthy and balanced diet preferences of people play an important role in each human life parts. Especially milk and dairy products are necessary for human health because of their nutrition value and body functions. One of the parts of people life is university life. Starting university is a turning point in terms of eating habits, since food choices responsibility of university students increases in this period. According to the researches, increasing availability of fast foods, changes in living arrangements, life experiences, expectations, preferences and beliefs related with food selections are most common reasons regarding dietary choices in this young adults group. University students had drinking milk habits in primary school but most of them lose their habits during university life. The students' first preferences were cheese and then yogurt and finally milk. A very little part of university students consume milk and dairy products regularly. The consumption habits and milk and dairy product catering of university students were examined. The consumption preferences of milk and dairy products of the students in different Universities are reviewed in this review.展开更多

Another aim was to determine possible differences among pupils, ...The main purpose of this article was to find out more about eating habits along with other habits, attitudes and activities of elementary school pupils. Another aim was to determine possible differences among pupils, depending on their sex, age and environment. Furthermore, based on the anthropometric data (body mass and height) and age, this article was to determine the nutritional status of pupils. The research was conducted via questionnaire constructed for the needs of this specific research. Six hundred and fifty-one pupils took part in this questionnaire in a ratio of 41:59 urban/rural and 51:49 girls/boys. Most of the interviewed pupils (73.88%) have normal body mass according to their age. The share of underweight and overweight pupils is bigger among the boys. Nutritional habits differ among pupils from the urban and rural areas, but they do not differ as much among boys and girls. In addition, their nutritional habits become worse as they grow up.展开更多
