In 1996,archeologists excavated the ruins of 5 ancient cities at Pixian, Xinjing, Dujiangyan,Wenjiang and Chongzhou, and found that these 5 cities were dated back to the prehistoric age. They had an area ranging from 100,000 sq. meters, the Mangcheng City at Dujiangyan, to 600,000 sq. meters,the Baodun City at Xinjing. All of them are located along the upper reaches of the Minjiang River with an average distance of no more than 30 kilometers apart from each other. The discovery of the Baodun City is of particularly great significance.
