The laboratory-scale model ship was mounted on a rigid car...This study investigates the resistance of a transport ship navigating in level ice by conducting a series of model tests in an ice tank at Tianjin University. The laboratory-scale model ship was mounted on a rigid carriage using a one-directional load cell and then towed through an ice sheet at different speeds. We observed the ice-breaking process at different parts of the ship and motion of the ice floes and measured the resistances under different speeds to determine the relationship between the ice-breaking process and ice resistance. The bending failure at the shoulder area was found to cause maximum resistance. Furthermore, we introduced the analytical method of Lindqvist (1989) for estimating ice resistance and then compared these calculated results with those from our model tests. The results indicate that the calculated total resistances are higher than those we determined in the model tests.展开更多

A filter P3M6 and 300 k...It is important to quantify mass variations in the Antarctic ice sheet hybrid filtering scheme employing a combination of the decorrelated to study the global sea-level rise and climate change. A filter P3M6 and 300 km Fan filter was used, and the sur- face mass variations over the Antarctic are recovered from GRACE CSR RL04 monthly gravity field models from August 2002 to June 2010. After deduction of leakage errors using the GLDAS hydrological model and postglacial rebound effects using the glacial isostatic adjustment model IJ05, the variations in the ice sheet mass are obtained. The results reveal that the rate of melting of the Antarctic ice sheet is 80.0 Gt/a and increasing and contributes 0.22 mm/a to the global sea-level rise; the mass loss rate is 78.3 Gt/a in the West Antarctic and 1.6 Gt/a in the East Antarctic. The average mass loss rate increases from 39.3 Gt/a for the period 2002-2005 to 104.2 Gt/a for the period 2006-2010, and its corresponding contribution to the global sea-level rise increases from 0.11 to 0.29 mm/a, which indicates accelerated ice mass loss over the Antarctic since 2006. Moreover, the mass accumulation rates for Enderby Land and Wilkes Land along the coast of East Antarctica decrease for the period 2006-2008 but increase evidently after 2009.展开更多

The quasi-linear thermod...This paper is intended to determine physical parameters describing volumetric heat capacity and thermal conductivity of sea ice in u quasi-linear thermodynamic system using field observations. The quasi-linear thermodynamic system of sea ice with unknown physical parameters is described, and the existence and uniqueness of its solution is proved. Then the physical parameters are taken as control variable, temperature devi- ations as objective function, and a parameter identification model is established. The existence of its optimal solution is discussed. To solve the identification model, a new algorithm containing genetic algorithm, Hooke- Jeeves algorithm and semi-implicit finite difference scheme is constructed. The physical parameters are calculated using the obser- vations measured at Nella Fjord around Zhongshan Station, Antarctic in CHINARE 2006. For comparability and consistency with other works, a new internationM standard named TEOS-10 is used. To examine the validity of the identified results, another sim- ulation for temperature profiles in different measurement period is operated. Numerical results show that better simulations of temperature distribution are possible with the identified parameters than EC1993. Therefore not only the identified parameters can be applied in sea ice modeling, but also this study can enrich and supplement observations of sea ice.展开更多
