Traditionally, it is static mappings between the control plane and data plane. Adversaries have plenty of time to exploit the controller's vulnerabilities and launch attacks wisely. We tend to believe that dynamically altering such static mappings is a promising approach to alleviate this issue, since a moving target is difficult to be compromised even by skilled adversaries. It is critical to determine the right time to conduct scheduling and to balance the overhead afforded and the security levels guaranteed. Little previous work has been done to investigate the economical time in dynamic-scheduling controllers. In this paper, we take the first step to both theoretically and experimentally study the scheduling-timing problem in dynamic control plane. We model this problem as a renewal reward process and propose an optimal algorithm in deciding the right time to schedule with the objective of minimizing the long-term loss rate. In our experiments, simulations based on real network attack datasets are conducted and we demonstrate that our proposed algorithm outperforms given scheduling schemes.展开更多

Patch spraying to control weeds has advantages of chemical saving, reduced cost and environmental pollution. Advent of electro-optical sensing capabilities has paved the way of using machine vision technologies for patch spraying. Machine vision system has to acquire and process digital images to make control decisions. Proper identification and classification of objects present in image holds the key to make control decisions and use of any spraying operation performed. Recognition of objects in digital image may be affected by background, intensity, image resolution, orientation of the object and geometrical characteristics. A set of 16, including 11 shape and 5 texture-based parameters coupled with predictive discriminating analysis has been used to identify the weed leaves. Geometrical features were indexed successfully to eliminate the effect of object orientation. Linear discriminating analysis was found to be more effective in correct classification of weed leaves. The classification accuracy of 69% to 80% was observed. These features can be utilized for development of image based variable rate sprayer.展开更多

One of these areas is hotel information system. Many operations, such as check-in, check-out, and food and beverage, are performed owing to information technologies. Package programs are used for managing hotel operations. Software provides reporting, filtering, remote accessing, and cost control services which are important key parameters of decision-making processes of hotel managers. Cost control is one of the most important operations in hotel management. Cost control service of package programs assists managers in monitoring overall cost and computing each department's partial cost and serves information to the different departments of hotels using information technologies. Cost control is important in the departments which are profitable in a hotel. Food and beverage is one of these profitable departments, which is the second profitable department in hotels. It makes profit between mostly 20% and 40%. This research aims to understand effects of information technologies during decision-making processes. The sample of study is food and beverage managers in five-star hotels in Istanbul. Questionnaire was applied to 45 participants.展开更多

In this work, shift scheduling strategies are developed for parallel hybrid construction vehicles. The effect of power distribution and direction on shift characteristics of the parallel hybrid vehicle with operating loads is evaluated, which must be considered for optimal shift control. A power distribution factor is defined to accurately describe the power distribution and direction in various parallel hybrid systems. This paper proposes a Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm optimized neural network shift scheduling strategy. The methodology contains two objective functions, it is a dynamic combination of a dynamic shift schedule for optimal vehicle acceleration, and an energy-efficient shift schedule for optimal powertrain efficiency. The study is performed on a test bench under typical operating conditions of a wheel loader. The experimental results show that the proposed strategies offer effective and competitive shift performance.展开更多

It describes syllabic F0 contour with two points, one curve and duration. The curve represents two optimal points of controlling parameters. The duration represents the syllabic duration. The prosodic characters of controlling parameters were analyzed by CART (Class and Regression Tree). A set of cont rolling parameters was analyzed, which reflects the linguistic environment and prosodic structure. Then it sets up the model of F0 contours prediction with the two optimal controlling parameters and F0 templates. The end pitch value of previous syllable as special prosodic parameters was used to keep the continuity of fore-and-aft syllable. It focuses on looking out the main prosodic clues hiding in F0 contours and applying it to simplify the model for prediction. In the new century, the flood control systems have to face a series of challenges. In this paper, we design fa decision support system (DSS) for flood control based on its requirements. The DSS has been applied to decision-making for flood control in Jiangxi province, and play an important role in the flood control in the recent two years. Finally, we plot the further improvement on the DSS so that it will make more contribution in the flood control.展开更多

Such type of situations demand the addition of knowledge based layer to help the operators to be familiar with exact traffic problem and give the best choice of strategic control actions to the city. In current situation there is a necessity to build systematic, knowledge based tool to analyze and manage the recent or potential air quality issues and traffic noise issues. The paper comprises the creation of knowledge from the information which is extracted from the various data by using knowledge based modules (spreadsheets, database, software, etc.) and some management, optimization models. Such type of knowledge based management tool may act as a Decision Support System (DSS) which will be very supportive in traffic control system. The technology of knowledge-based systems may facilitate in designing and executing suitable knowledge structures to formulate conceptual models for traffic analysis and management and to use such approach for on-line strategic traffic management operations.展开更多

First, the major issues involved in complexity management and decision making are summarized as they are viewed in literature, and a review of GST and Systems Thinking is given. The discussion in the paper is developed within the context of GST in general, but concentrated on decision making in the three trends of GST: Operations Research, Cybernetics, and Managerial Cybernetics. Here, the role of Cybernetics in complexity decision making is particularly emphasized. The discussion is then extended to the latest developments in complexity decision making in Science of Complexity and Soft Systems Thinking. The study also includes a framework which is expected to guide instructors who are planning to offer contemporary courses on decision making. The framework provides some clues for assessing the level of complexity for a given situation and selecting the appropriate methodology for solution development.展开更多

Fuzzy expert systems can model fuzzy controllers, i.e., the knowledge representation and the abilities of making decisions corresponding to fuzzy expert systems are much more complicated that in the case of standard fuzzy controllers. The expert system acts also as a supervisor, creating meta-level reasoning on a set of fuzzy controllers, in order to choose the best one for the management of the process. Knowledge Management Systems (KMSs) is a new development paradigm of Intelligent Systems which has resulted from a synergy between fuzzy sets, artificial neural networks, evolutionary computation, machine learning, etc., broadening computer science, physics, economics, engineering, mathematics. This paper presents, after a synergic new paradigm of intelligent systems, as a practical case study the fuzzy and temporal properties of knowledge formalism embedded in an ICS. We are not dealing high with level reasoning methods, because we think that real-time problems can only be solved by rather low-level reasoning. Solving the match-time predictability problem would allow us to build much more powerful reasoning techniques.展开更多
