In this paper, a comprehensive fatigue analysis is conducted on the mooring lines applied in a semi-submersible platform with special focus on the low frequency(LF) fatigue damage. Several influential factors, including water depth, wave spectral parameters, and riser system, are considered. Numerical simulation of a semi-submersible platform with the mooring/riser system is executed under different conditions, and the fatigue damage of mooring lines is assessed by using the time domain analysis method as a benchmark. The effects of these factors on the mooring line tension and the fatigue damage are investigated and discussed in detail. Research results indicate that the LF fatigue damage only accounts for a very small portion of the total damage, although the LF components dominate the global motion response and the mooring line tension of the semi-submersible platform. However, it is demonstrated that the LF fatigue damage is clearly affected by the influential factors. The increase in water depth and spectral peak periods, and the existence of risers can weaken the contribution of the LF components to the mooring line fatigue damage, while the fatigue damage due to the LF components increases with the increase of significant wave height.展开更多

Methods: Retrospective analysis on the 86 cases of the clinical materials of patients with primary lung cancer radical surgery for thoracic surgery of line lung cancer in the 81st Hospital of PLA from October 2010 to October 2011 and using the POSSUM scoring system to predict the cases of postoperative complication and death toll, then making a comparison with the actual cases. Results: The POSSUM scoring system predicting 29 cases of postoperative complications, but 32 cases of practical complications, the difference between them has no statistical significance (P﹥0.05), 8 cases of predicted postoperative deaths, 2 cases of practical deaths, by comparison, there was statistical significance (P﹤0.05). Conclusion: The modified POSSUM scoring system can be used to predict the postoperative complication of lung surgery patients, but sometimes overestimates the postoperative death cases.展开更多
Various numerical methods are available to model,simulate,analyse and interpret the results;however a major task is to select a reliable and intended tool to perform a realistic assessment of any problem.For a model t...Various numerical methods are available to model,simulate,analyse and interpret the results;however a major task is to select a reliable and intended tool to perform a realistic assessment of any problem.For a model to be a representative of the realistic mining scenario,a verified tool must be chosen to perform an assessment of mine roof support requirement and address the geotechnical risks associated with longwall mining.The dependable tools provide a safe working environment,increased production,efficient management of resources and reduce environmental impacts of mining.Although various methods,for example,analytical,experimental and empirical are being adopted in mining,in recent days numerical tools are becoming popular due to the advancement in computer hardware and numerical methods.Empirical rules based on past experiences do provide a general guide,however due to the heterogeneous nature of mine geology(i.e.,none of the mine sites are identical),numerical simulations of mine site specific conditions would lend better insights into some underlying issues.The paper highlights the use of a continuum mechanics based tool in coal mining with a mine scale model.The continuum modelling can provide close to accurate stress fields and deformation.The paper describes the use of existing mine data to calibrate and validate the model parameters,which then are used to assess geotechnical issues related with installing a new high capacity longwall mine at the mine site.A variety of parameters,for example,chock convergences,caveability of overlying sandstones,abutment and vertical stresses have been estimated.展开更多

F...A super-resolution reconstruction approach of (SVD) technique was presented, and its performance was radar image using an adaptive-threshold singular value decomposition analyzed, compared and assessed detailedly. First, radar imaging model and super-resolution reconstruction mechanism were outlined. Then, the adaptive-threshold SVD super-resolution algorithm, and its two key aspects, namely the determination method of point spread function (PSF) matrix T and the selection scheme of singular value threshold, were presented. Finally, the super-resolution algorithm was demonstrated successfully using the measured synthetic-aperture radar (SAR) images, and a Monte Carlo assessment was carried out to evaluate the performance of the algorithm by using the input/output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Five versions of SVD algorithms, namely 1 ) using all singular values, 2) using the top 80% singular values, 3) using the top 50% singular values, 4) using the top 20% singular values and 5) using singular values s such that S2≥/max(s2)/rinsNR were tested. The experimental results indicate that when the singular value threshold is set as Smax/(rinSNR)1/2, the super-resolution algorithm provides a good compromise between too much noise and too much bias and has good reconstruction results.展开更多
Previous studies show that temporal irreversibility(TI),as an important indicator of the nonlinearity of time series,is almost uniformly overestimated in the daily air temperature anomaly series over China in NCEP rea...Previous studies show that temporal irreversibility(TI),as an important indicator of the nonlinearity of time series,is almost uniformly overestimated in the daily air temperature anomaly series over China in NCEP reanalysis data,as compared with station observations.Apart from this highly overestimated TI in the NCEP reanalysis,some other important atmospheric metrics,such as predictability and extreme events,might also be overestimated since there are close relations between nonlinearity and predictability/extreme events.In this study,these issues are fully addressed,i.e.,intrinsic predictability,prediction skill,and the number of extreme events.The results show that intrinsic predictability,prediction skill,and the occurrence number of extreme events are also almost uniformly overestimated in the NCEP reanalysis daily minimum and maximum air temperature anomaly series over China.Furthermore,these overestimations of intrinsic predictability,prediction skill,and the number of extreme events are only weakly correlated with the overestimated TI,which indicates that the quality of the NCEP reanalysis should be carefully considered when conclusions on both predictability and extreme events are derived.展开更多

The comprehension of the structural performance of vault-ab...In this paper, the behavior of barrel-vaulted structures undergoing rocking of the abutments and the effectiveness of a few retrofit solutions are discussed. The comprehension of the structural performance of vault-abutment systems is fundamental for their seismic vulnerability assessment, and for the design of efficient strengthening techniques. In the paper, traditional techniques such as extrados thin concrete slab or masonry spandrel walls as well as an innovative solution with an extrados thin improved lime mortar slab reinforced by means of glass fiber mesh are considered. The different strengthening solutions are studied and compared on the basis of the results of non linear numerical analyses and by reference to a simplified analytical approach. Numerical and analytical models are validated through comparison with the results of a recent experimental study focusing on the behavior of vaulted masonry structures subjected to rocking of the abutments. The validated models can be used by engineers for the seismic vulnerability assessment of masonry vaulted structures as well as for the proportioning of possible extrados strengthening solutions, and will be used in the future to explore different structural system configurations.展开更多

The load d...This paper presents comparison of numerical models used in an analysis of a road bridge deck. The models were adapted for computing the live load distribution coefficients in composite concrete bridge deck. The load distribution method was chosen for assessment of the usability of different numerical model in slab bridge deck analysis. The goal of the study is to determine a simplest but still accurate numerical model to estimate live load effects on composite slab bridge. In the analysis, the well-established grillage approach was adapted for representation of the bridge deck as a basic model as well as more sophisticated three-dimensional models which was supposed to better represent the real behavior of the deck under concentrated wheel loads. The bridge deck was effectively modeled using beam and shell elements. The grillage method compares well with the finite-element method. This finding is allowed to establish simplification in numerical modeling of slab bridge decks for live load effect computations.展开更多

Within the scope of marketing planning and controlling, the model is suited to optimizing an enterprise's market activities and taking interdependencies between market segments, production, and investments into account. Applying duality theory of linear programming allows for identifying the income determinants and deriving formulas for a correct valuation by using (corrected) net present values (NPVs). Under certain conditions, they can also be used to easily evaluate and financially interpret the effects of parameter changes. The author uses sensitivity analysis to support these findings and to obtain more information on the effects of these determinants.展开更多
