First, the preprocessing operations are utilized to ...This paper proposes a new method for ship recognition and classification using sound produced and radiated underwater. To do so, a three-step procedure is proposed. First, the preprocessing operations are utilized to reduce noise effects and provide signal for feature extraction. Second, a binary image, made from frequency spectrum of signal segmentation, is formed to extract effective features. Third, a neural classifier is designed to classify the signals. Two approaches, the proposed method and the fractal-based method are compared and tested on real data. The comparative results indicated better recognition ability and more robust performance of the proposed method than the fractal-based method. Therefore, the proposed method could improve the recognition accuracy of underwater acoustic targets.展开更多
This paper presented an individual recognition algorithm for human iris using fractal dimension of grayscale extremums for feature extraction.Firstly,iris region was localized from an eye image with modified circle de...This paper presented an individual recognition algorithm for human iris using fractal dimension of grayscale extremums for feature extraction.Firstly,iris region was localized from an eye image with modified circle detector stemmed from Daugman’s integro-differential operator.Then,segmentation was used to extract the iris and to exclude occlusion from eyelids and eyelashes.The extracted iris was normalized and mapped to polar coordinates for matching.In feature encoding,a new approach based on fractal dimension of grayscale extremums was designed to extract textural features of iris.Finally,a normalized correlation classifier was employed to determine the agreement of two iris feature templates,and the feature template was rotated left and right to avoid the interference from rotation of eyes and tilting of head.The experimental results show that fractal dimension of grayscale extremums can extract textural features from iris image effectively,and the proposed recognition algorithm is accurate and efficient.The proposed algorithm was tested on CASIA-IrisV3-Interval iris database and the performance was evaluated based on the analysis of both False Accept Rate(FAR)and False Reject Rate(FRR)curves.Experimental results show that the proposed iris recognition algorithm is effective and efficient.展开更多
This paper examines, as a case study, Japanese media production, remaking, and transferences of media content derived from the manga Janguru Taitei (Jungle Emperor) and contemporary Japanese government strategies to...This paper examines, as a case study, Japanese media production, remaking, and transferences of media content derived from the manga Janguru Taitei (Jungle Emperor) and contemporary Japanese government strategies to protect and promote Japanese cultural and economic value within the content business. The study utilizes methodological triangulation inclusive of textual, document, and value chain analysis. The Japanese government has progressively appreciated the intrinsic value of the media content from both a commercial and cultural context and the loss of value in unregulated segments of the regional market. In 2003, they established an Intellectual Property Strategy Group to support and promote the Japanese media content business. There has been a continuum of policy development since then to protect and amplify the financial value of Japanese media products. All of the developments in media industry are fuelled not only by government regulations, the imagination of talented artists and writers, and the growing regionalization and internationalization of the industry but also the "bottom line" emerging from the value chain. The recognition of the need for sustaining profit growth to continue the viability of original and remade content in Japan is paramount for Japan.展开更多
A new vortex identification criterion called W-method is proposed based on the ideas that vorticity overtakes deformation in vortex.The comparison with other vortex identification methods like Q-criterion and λ_2-met...A new vortex identification criterion called W-method is proposed based on the ideas that vorticity overtakes deformation in vortex.The comparison with other vortex identification methods like Q-criterion and λ_2-method is conducted and the advantages of the new method can be summarized as follows:(1) the method is able to capture vortex well and very easy to perform;(2) the physical meaning of W is clear while the interpretations of iso-surface values of Q and λ_2 chosen to visualize vortices are obscure;(3)being different from Q and λ_2 iso-surface visualization which requires wildly various thresholds to capture the vortex structure properly, W is pretty universal and does not need much adjustment in different cases and the iso-surfaces of W=0.52 can always capture the vortices properly in all the cases at different time steps, which we investigated;(4) both strong and weak vortices can be captured well simultaneously while improper Q and λ_2 threshold may lead to strong vortex capture while weak vortices are lost or weak vortices are captured but strong vortices are smeared;(5) W=0.52 is a quantity to approximately define the vortex boundary. Note that, to calculate W, the length and velocity must be used in the non-dimensional form. From our direct numerical simulation, it is found that the vorticity direction is very different from the vortex rotation direction in general 3-D vortical flow,the Helmholtz velocity decomposition is reviewed and vorticity is proposed to be further decomposed to vortical vorticity and non-vortical vorticity.展开更多
