The numerical procedure was validated by a 3-dimensional gas flow in the annular channel. Applying the validated model, the flow character- istics of TiCl4 in the oxidation reactor with a tangential inlet were simulated and characterized. The flow distribu- tion with five rectifying rings of different structure was simulated and analyzed. The results showed that the rectifying ring improved the distribution uniformity of the pressure and outlet velocity. Compared to the original case without a rectifying ring, the non-uniformity of the pressure and outlet velocity could be reduced by up to 91% and 69% respectively. The rectifying ring #5, which can be installed and adjusted easily, is more effective in realizing even distribution. In addition, installation of the rectifying ring effectively reduced the circulating flow in an annular channel as well as the total energy loss.展开更多

Focusing on the theory of countercurrent extraction, the technology parameters and pre-setting flow-rates during the extract process are designed. Under varying process parameters, a novel step by step model is also proposed for each stage to analyze the impact on the distribution profile change. Combining the mass balance model and ECC changing trend at the monitoring stage, the ECC distribution profile can be automatically regulated by dynamically compensating the related extract or scrubbing liquid flow-rate. To this end, the required product purity at the two outlets is achieved. Based on Wincc and Matlab dynamic simulators, a specific Pr/Nd cascade extraction process is used to illustrate and demonstrate the application of the present approach.展开更多

The main fractionator, separating superheating reaction vapors from the coke drums into lighter oil products, involves a de-superheating section and a rectifying section, and couldn't be simulated as a whole column directly because of non-eouilibrium in the de-suoerheatine section. It is verv imoortant to correctlv simulate the main fractionator for operational parameter and energy-use optimization of delayed cokers. This paper discusses the principle of de-superheating processes, and then proposes a new simulation strategy. Some key issues such as composition prediction of the reaction vapors, selection of thermodynamic methods, estimation of tray efficiency, etc. are discussed. The proposed simulation approach is applied to two industrial delayed cokers with typical technological processes in a Chinese refinery by using PRO/II. The simulation results obtained are well consistent with the actual operation data, which indicates that the presented approach is suitable to simulate the main fraction- ators of delayed cokers or other distillation columns consisting of de-superheating sections and rectifying sections.展开更多

To solve the given problem it is used a hydrodynamic model calculating the integral functions of the flow from the surface to the bottom. By results of calculations, the maps of the integral water circulation were built for the following types of atmospheric circulation: "north-western" and "okhotsk-aleutian". In accordance with the performed calculations for the water area being studied, the hydrodynamic structures are distinguished both non-depending and depending on the type of the atmospheric circulation. The non-depending structures are characterized by the cyclonic activity in the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk in whole. Hydrodynamic structures depending on types of the atmospheric circulation have their peculiarities in the spatial-temporal distribution.展开更多

Sequence of stages of electrosynthesis of silicides of molybdenum and tungsten was found as follows: deposition of more electroposifve metal (molybdenum or tungsten), deposition of the second component (silicon) on the surface of metal deposited previously, and reaction diffusion of silicon into the deep of the metal-salt "pear" with the formation of silicide phases of different compositions up to the higher silicides. In contrast, during the electrodeposition of chromium silicides, one of the components (chromium) is deposited not in elemental form, but in oxide form, and the other (silicon) acts as a reducing agent for this oxide to form binary compounds. Duration of the synthesis first stage (deposition of refractory metal or of its oxide) depends on the refractory metal compound content in the system and on the cathode current density. Synthesis of silicides is possible due to retention of powders of molybdenum (tungsten) or chromium oxide at the cathode without scaling. Optimal values of concentrations ratio, current density, temperature, and duration of electrosynthesis were found. Phase composition of products were obtained, as well as their chemical and thermal stability, were studied.展开更多

Particles dissipating the turbulent kinetic energy increase the efficiency of collision, grow in size and incorporate phosphate from the wastewater Only certain flocks can be separated depending on their stability, size, density, etc.. According to the literature the velocity gradient of the flow (G-value) is the main design parameter of the flocculators, but there is a need to take into account at least the flocks age, too. In this paper, it presents a novel approach to determine the efficiency of flocculators using local mean age theory, residence time distribution and dimensional analysis. Calculations were performed for two constructions of cascade reactors---one with small baffles and one without these; hydraulical performance and the achievable conversion were compared. As a result, the flocculator with small baffles proved to be more efficient than the traditional construction.展开更多

Usually the rear shock is responding to vortex sheding by its deflection angle. In consequence main shock and rear shocks are moving whilst front shock is stable. The goal of the measurements presented here is to find out how the k-foot behaves during shock oscillations in the case when front shock is not fixed by the pressure gradient. Unsteady shock behaviour is also investigated when air jet vortex generators (AJVG) are used. Counteraction of the separation is directly related to the influence on unsteady processes in the shock wave induced separation.展开更多

Quantitative relationships between vegetation factors with runoff and soil loss are described. A framework for describing relationships involving vegetation, erosion and scale is proposed. The relative importance of each vegetation dimension for various erosion processes changes across scales. With the development of erosion features(i.e., splash, interrill, rill and gully), the main factor of vertical vegetation structures in controlling runoff and soil loss changes from aboveground biomass to roots. Plant diversity levels are correlated with vertical vegetation structures and play a key role at small scales, while vegetation patterns also maintain a critical function across scales(i.e., patch, slope, catchment and basin/region). Several topics for future study are proposed in this review, such as to determine efficient vegetation architectures for ecological restoration, to consider the dynamics of vegetation patterns, and to identify the interactions involving the three dimensions of vegetation.展开更多
