A GIS based system is developed for typhoon data management and analysis, typhoon simulation and hazard assessment for southeast coast of China in this paper. A typhoon database by Microsoft Access is designed. Data manipulation and analysis, typhoon simulation and hazard assessment, and visualization of results are implemented on GIS platform. This GIS-based typhoon database and analysis system greatly facilitates typhoon hazard assessment.展开更多

This study considered four factors and these included landuse types, drainage, residential densities and elevation. The elevation data and drainage data were derived from the topographical map of scale 1:35,000, while the land use types were derived from the imagery of Port Harcourt metropolis downloaded from Google Earth, 2010 version. Both the topographical map and imagery were geo-referenced to geographic coordinates and geographic features were digitized in form of shapefiles using both ArcView GIS 3.3 and ArcGIS 9.2 versions. AHP (analytical hierarchical process) was adopted in this study whereby many flood factors were ranked and overlaid for decision making. The contour data was used to generate the DEM (digital elevation model) through the process called kriging in ArcGIS 9.2. Based on the ranking index, factors considered were reclassified to three levels of vulnerability namely highly vulnerable, moderately vulnerable and lowly vulnerable through ranking method and these reclassified factors were then overlaid using an addition operator. The analysis shows that communities like Eagle Island, Ojimbo, Kidney Island were highly vulnerable to flood while communities like Choba, Ogbogoro, Rumualogu were moderately vulnerable. Communities like Rumuigbo, Rumuodomaya etc. were lowly vulnerable to flood. The highly vulnerable places covered 98.18 km2, moderately vulnerable was 220.46 km2 and lowly vulnerable areas covered 330.77 km2.展开更多

The basic idea, construction, working principles and characteristic of remote transaction mirror image are presented in this paper. We analyze and compare similarities and differences among this disaster backup scheme and others usually used. The technology of remote transaction mirror image have the advantages such as less requiring of software and hardware system platform, low-investment, being able to control and restore lost data, insuring the data consistency and integrity.展开更多

This paper describes the application of NDVI images in monitoring potential fire danger and analyses the relationship between MODIS-NDVI and fire weather index. The series of weather data in Beijing are used in this analysis including fire seasons in spring during 2004 to 2005. Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI) is selected in this study, because it can properly estimate moisture conditions of live fuel. Fine fuel moisture, drought code and FWI values are generated by using the squared inverse distance algorithm. Strong correlations have previously been observed between FWI variables and NDVI data. The MODIS-NDVI images can be used in fire management as component related with live fuel moisture and fire danger.展开更多
