The fault zone is ...The Lajishan Mountain fault zone consists of two NE_protruding arcuate faults, i.e. the northern and southern margin fault of Lajishan Mountain with the fault length of 230km and 220km respectively. The fault zone is located in the large_scale compressional structure zone and tectonic gradient zone in_between the NNW_trending right_lateral strike_slip Reshui_Riyueshan fault zone and the NWW_trending left_lateral strike_slip northern margin of west Qinling Ranges fault zone is also an important boundary fault zone, separating the Xining_Minhe basin and the Xunhua_Hualong basin at the southern and northern sides of the Lajishan Mountain respectively. Geologic geomorphic evidences of new activity revealed by field investigations indicate that the latest movement of the Lajishan fault zone was in late Epipleistocene (only a few segments were active in early Holocene) and is mainly of compressive thrusting with slightly left_lateral strike_slip component. The above movement has possibly resulted in the occurrence of about 20 moderate earthquakes of magnitude around 5.0. The Lajishan region can therefore be regarded as a seismotectonic window to reflect tectonic movement and earthquake activity.展开更多

As the most significant water project,the Three Gorges Project (TGP) was designed to take care of multiple objectives for water utilization such as flood control,power generation and navigation.The implementation of t...As the most significant water project,the Three Gorges Project (TGP) was designed to take care of multiple objectives for water utilization such as flood control,power generation and navigation.The implementation of the project improved the flood safety level of Jingjiang reach to more than 100-year return period,which reduced greatly the flood risk at the mid-lower reaches of Changjiang River,produce huge quantity of energy for the central,east and south China,and improved significantly the navigation conditions of Chuanjiang River.Meanwhile,the operation of the TGP in dry season which compensate the downstream water resources,will as well deepen the navigation channel and thus improve the navigation conditions in the middle river reach.With the increasing demands raised from various aspects of the society,new requirements will be made for the TGP for the purpose of harnessing,development and protection of the Yangtze River Basin.Therefore,it will be a long-term task for the operation of TGP on how to optimize the water resources utilization and implement an effective operation.展开更多

The Kitami-city-hall-renewal p...Regional climatic conditions should be considered while designing urban development plans, with special attention to the impact of snowfall on public spaces in cities with harsh winters. The Kitami-city-hall-renewal project in Hokkaido, Japan was studied as an environmental assessment of snow drifting. Assessments of the two site plans proposed during the architectural planning process (A-type and B-type) were conducted in terms of the following three items: (1) The two site plans indicate snow-drifting problems around the main entrance; (2) More number of local snowdrifts on the main-street sidewalks were suggested in the B-type design; (3) Less number of snowdrifts in the parking area beside the railroad were indicated in the A-type design. These results were reflected in the architectural planning process. On the basis of this study, a desirable design process incorporating environmental assessments has been identified for cities with harsh winters.展开更多

The ground structure approach is often used to s...The present paper deals with a multiobjective optimization of truss topology by either Sequential Linear Programming (SLP) method or Linear Programming (LP) method. The ground structure approach is often used to solve this kind of design problems. In this paper, the topology optimization is formulated as a Multiobjective Optimization Problem (MOP), which is to find the cross-sectional area of truss members, such that both the total volume of members and the weighted mean compliance are minimized. Based upon the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker conditions (the optimality condition), the Pareto optimal front of this problem can be obtained theoretically. The truss topology optimization under multiple load cases can be solved by the SLP. On the other hand, the LP such as the Simplex method or the interior point method can be applied to find one of the Pareto optimal solutions of the MOP under single load case. The applications of either the SLP or the LP are illustrated in numerical examples with discussion on characteristics of design results.展开更多

The agricultural pattern and social and demographic status in the upper basin of the Dulung Nala...Development and judicious management of available water resources play a key role for economic upliftment of any region. The agricultural pattern and social and demographic status in the upper basin of the Dulung Nala Stream (a tributary of the Subarnarekha River) in the western part of the State of West Bengal, India, reveals growing demand of water in the basin. The paper reports different management plans involving different types of water harvesting structures (and associated different types of water distribution systems) and different crop combinations and with benefit/cost ratios varying from 1.3 to 11.2 for the basin. The study points out that the judicious choice of both the water harvesting structure as well as the water distribution system is important. Proper planning of crop pattern is also to be emphasized for reaping maximum benefit. It further emphasizes that cost- benefit ratio cannot solely govern the choice of structure and that maximum utilization of catchmental water and thus enhancement of agricultural output (and also economic return from the catchment) i.e. quantum of benefit is also important. The water harvesting structures proposed in this study can be implemented in other semi-arid regions of India having almost the same climatic and socio-economic conditions.展开更多

The goal of this procedure is to obtain cheaper costs both in the construction and in the maintenance of an homogeneous lot of buildings. The paper shows that, nevertheless an identical design being proposed in different towns, the final results are buildings with a different aspect. This is mainly due to the influence of building codes of the urban plan of the specific town, and to the site conditions, such as street orientation, ground inclination and so on. As a result the paper offers the ability to evaluate the role of the external factors on a standard design (with the afore said scale vantages) under the criminological point of view as well. This may be considered a further vantage that aims to obtain a lower crime risk level in town design.展开更多

The principle of network division of multiple links is introduced. Following these principles, the software network model is decomposed into three types of subnets and different relationships between classes are revealed. Then, the dynamic analysis of software networks is presented. A sufficient condition for the stability of general complex networks is obtained followed by that of software networks. Finally, the dynamics of an open-source software system is analyzed, and their simulations are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented model.展开更多

Therefore, this work aims at establishing better operatio...Mango is a widely cultivated and consumed fruit in Brazil and one of the most important alternatives to take advantage of the production excess is dehydration. Therefore, this work aims at establishing better operational conditions for "spray-drying" processes, in order to obtain the powder of mango pulp by means of a rotational central compounded planning, and also at carrying out the physicochemical characterization of both the integral mango pulp and the powder obtained from the operational conditions mentioned above. Both integral mango pulp and powder were analyzed as for the following physicochemical characteristics: humidity, pH, titratable acidity, soluble solids (~Brix), vitamin C and color--through parameters L*, a*, b* and h0, Chrome (C*) and color difference (AEL*a*b*). The experimental planning used presented significant differences at 5% of probability, showing that the model was adjusted to the data in accordance to F test, thus being possible to determine the best process conditions. In addition, the average results of the physicochemical parameters pointed out that the pulp used was in accordance with the patterns established by the quality and identity patterns for mango pulp. Moreover, it showed that the powder obtained had good physicochemical quality.展开更多
