T...Smart material and structure (SMS) is a challenging novel technique for the 21 century especially in fields of aviation and aerospace. Vibration and noise suppression smart structure is an important branch of SMS. There are several typical structures such as the cabin of an airplane, space station, the solar board of satellite and the rotor blade of a helicopter, of which the vibrations and radiation noises have bad influences on precise equipments and aiming systems. In order to suppress vibrations and noises of these structures, several algorithms are applied to the models which simulate the structures. Experiments are performed to suppress vibrations and noises by bonding sensors and actuators to the structures at the optimized locations and using computer based measurement and control systems. For the blade vibration control of a helicopter, a non contact method of signal transmission by magneto electric coupling is discussed. The experimental results demonstrate that the methods used for active control are effective.展开更多
This paper studied a supervisory control system for a hybrid off-highway electric vehicle under the chargesustaining(CS)condition.A new predictive double Q-learning with backup models(PDQL)scheme is proposed to optimi...This paper studied a supervisory control system for a hybrid off-highway electric vehicle under the chargesustaining(CS)condition.A new predictive double Q-learning with backup models(PDQL)scheme is proposed to optimize the engine fuel in real-world driving and improve energy efficiency with a faster and more robust learning process.Unlike the existing“model-free”methods,which solely follow on-policy and off-policy to update knowledge bases(Q-tables),the PDQL is developed with the capability to merge both on-policy and off-policy learning by introducing a backup model(Q-table).Experimental evaluations are conducted based on software-in-the-loop(SiL)and hardware-in-the-loop(HiL)test platforms based on real-time modelling of the studied vehicle.Compared to the standard double Q-learning(SDQL),the PDQL only needs half of the learning iterations to achieve better energy efficiency than the SDQL at the end learning process.In the SiL under 35 rounds of learning,the results show that the PDQL can improve the vehicle energy efficiency by 1.75%higher than SDQL.By implementing the PDQL in HiL under four predefined real-world conditions,the PDQL can robustly save more than 5.03%energy than the SDQL scheme.展开更多

Simultaneous dimming controlling and data transmission are usually required in a white LED based indoor visible light communication system.However,the diming controlling of LED normally interferes the data transmissio...Simultaneous dimming controlling and data transmission are usually required in a white LED based indoor visible light communication system.However,the diming controlling of LED normally interferes the data transmission due to the modulation nonlinearity of LED.In order to solve this problem,a scheme by separating the LEDs for the functions of dimming control and data transmission respectively is proposed in this paper.In the scheme,the LEDs used for dimming control function are driven by a dc amplified circuit,and the LEDs for data transmission are driven by a digital modulation circuit respectively.In this way,the modulation distortion to the data signal caused by the modulation nonlinearity can be avoided even if the dimming is at high level dc driven current.The proof-of-concept experiment of a 2.5Mbit/s visible light communication system demonstrates that the dimming controlling and data transmission can be realized simultaneously in a simple way,and the data transmission is not affected by the dimming controlling function.Compared to previous methods,the scheme in this paper is simpler and cost effective,and makes sense when high rate data is transmitted in a visible light communication system.展开更多

This paper proposes the implementation of a fuzzy logic control scheme applied to a two d-q current components model of an induction motor. An intelligent based on fuzzy logic controller is developed with the help of knowledge rule base for efficient control. The performance of fuzzy logic controller is compared with that of the proportional integral controller in terms of the settling time and dynamic response to sudden load changes. The harmonic pattern of the output current is evaluated for both fixed gain proportional integral controller and the fuzzy logic based controller. The performance of the IM drive has been analyzed under steady state and transient conditions. Simulation results of both the controllers are presented for comparison.展开更多

The design objectives of the overall system are to automatically find light emitting objects at night within a user specified area, to track a light emitting object for a user specified time given the initial position of the object, and to allow the user access to these functions through a graphical user interface. The embedded system is used to provide a communication link between the graphical user interface and system hardware, to provide angle data processing for a dual axis accelerometer, to provide data processing for an electronic compass, and to provide pulse outputs for the step and direction inputs of three stepper motor drives. The dynamical equations of motion of the spa...The optimal control problem of the multibody dynamics of a spacecraft in space, modeled as a central body with one-sided connected deployable solar arrays, is investigated. The dynamical equations of motion of the spacecraft with solar arrays are derived using the multibody dynamics method. The control of the attitude motion of a spacecraft system can be transformed into the motion planning problem of nonholonomic system when the initial angular momentum is zero. These are then used to investigate the motion planning of the spacecraft during solar arrays deployment via particle swarm optimization (PSO) and results are obtained with the optimal control input and the optimal trajectory. The results of numerical simulation show that this approach is effective for the control problem of the attitude of a spacecraft during the deployment process of its solar arrays.展开更多

The ability to control magnetic vortex is critical for their potential applications in spintronic devices.Traditional methods including magnetic field,spin-polarized current etc.have been used to flip the core and/or ...The ability to control magnetic vortex is critical for their potential applications in spintronic devices.Traditional methods including magnetic field,spin-polarized current etc.have been used to flip the core and/or reverse circulation of vortex.However,it is challenging for deterministic electric-field control of the single magnetic vortex textures with time-reversal broken symmetry and no planar magnetic anisotropy.Here it is reported that a deterministic reversal of single magnetic vortex circulation can be driven back and forth by a space-varying strain in multiferroic heterostructures,which is controlled by using a bi-axial pulsed electric field.Phase-field simulation reveals the mechanism of the emerging magnetoelastic energy with the space variation and visualizes the reversal pathway of the vortex.This deterministic electric-field control of the single magnetic vortex textures demonstrates a new approach to integrate the low-dimensional spin texture into the magnetoelectric thin film devices with low energy consumption.展开更多

The performances were evaluated and compared at selected typical wind speeds within...The smart fatigue load control of a large-scale wind turbine blade subject to wake effect was numerically investigated in this paper. The performances were evaluated and compared at selected typical wind speeds within the whole operational region under three turbine layout strategies, i.e., column, row and array arrangements, together with a single turbine case as reference, utilizing our newly developed aero-servo-elastic platform. It was observed that not only the blade fatigue loads but the stabilities of power and collective pitch angle were effectively controlled for all cases, especially at the highest studied hub velocity of20 m/s, leading to the averaged reduction percentages in the standard deviations of the flapwise root moment, the flapwise tip deflection and the root damage equivalent load, of about 30.0 %, 20.0 % and 20.0 %, respectively. Furthermore, the control effectiveness gradually lessened in the sequences of single, column, row and array cases, with successively increasing effective turbulence intensity,within regions II and III. The performances in region III,associated with the impaired flow separation on the blade by the effective pitching action, were much better than those in region II, related to enhanced flow detachment. In addition,at the rated wind velocity, the control for the array case was superior over other three cases, which was thought to be originated from the more pitch activities to impair the uncontrolled flow separation on the blade surface.展开更多
As an important development direction of pure electric vehicle drive system,the distributed drive system has the advantages of compact structure,high transmission efficiency,and flexible control,but there are some ser...As an important development direction of pure electric vehicle drive system,the distributed drive system has the advantages of compact structure,high transmission efficiency,and flexible control,but there are some serious problems such as high performance requirements to the drive motors,complex control strategies,and poor reliability.To solve these problems,a two motors dual-mode coupling drive system has been developed at first,which not only has the capacity of two-speed gear shifting,but also can automatically switch between the distributed drive and the centralized drive by means of modes change control.So,the performance requirements to the drive motors can be reduced,the problem of abnormal running caused by the fault of unilateral distributed drive systems also can be resolved by replacing the drive mode with centralized drive.Then,the system parameters primary and the optimum matching under the principle of efficiency optimization have been carried out,which makes the drive system achieve predetermined functions and meet the actual demands of different operating statuses.At last,the economic comparison of a pure electric vehicle installation with a dual-mode coupling drive sytem,a single-motor centralized drive system or a dual-motor distributed drive system in the simulation conditions has been completed.Compared with other systems,the driving range of the electric vehicle driven by the designed system is significantly increased,which proves the better efficiency and application value of the system.展开更多
