Despite numerous known methods for a solution, the mentioned problem is very complicated due to the presence of an extensive population of certain dynamical conditions, requirements and restrictions, which must be satisfied by the appropriate choice of a steering control law. The aim of this paper is to simplify the procedure of the synthesis, providing accurate steering with desirable dynamics of the control system. The approach proposed here is based on the usage of a special unified multipurpose control law structure that allows decoupling a synthesis into simpler particular optimization problems. In particular, this structure includes a dynamical corrector to support the desirable features for the vehicle's motion under the action of sea wave disturbances. As a result, a specialized new method for the corrector design is proposed to provide an accurate steering or a trade-off between accurate steering and economical steering of the ship. This method guaranties a certain flexibility of the control law with respect to an actual environment of the sailing;its corresponding turning can be realized in real time onboard.展开更多
The self-excited vibration problems of maglev vehicle-bridge interaction system were addressed, which greatly degrades the stability of the levitation control, decreases the ride comfort, and restricts the cost of the...The self-excited vibration problems of maglev vehicle-bridge interaction system were addressed, which greatly degrades the stability of the levitation control, decreases the ride comfort, and restricts the cost of the whole system. Firstly, the coupled model containing the quintessential parts was built, and the mechanism of self-excited vibration was explained in terms of energy transmission from levitation system to bridge. Then, the influences of the parameters of the widely used integral-type proportion and derivation(PD) controller and the delay of signals on the stability of the interaction system were analyzed. The result shows that the integral-type PD control is a nonoptimal approach to solve the self-excited vibration completely. Furthermore, the differential-type PD controller can guarantee the passivity of levitation system at full band. However, the differentiation of levitation gap should be filtered by a low-pass filter due to noise of gap differentiation. The analysis indicates that a well tuned low-pass filter can still keep the coupled system stable.展开更多

Two available ways for enforcing equality path constraints are presented, which can be directly incorporated into the improved CVI approach. Inequality path constraints are much more difficult to deal with, even for small scale problems, because the time intervals where the inequality path constraints are active are unknown in advance. To overcome the challenge, the ll penalty function and a novel smoothing technique are in-troduced, leading to a new effective approach. Moreover, on the basis of the relevant theorems, a numerical algo-rithm is proposed for nonlinear dynamic optimization problems with inequality path constraints. Results obtained from the classic batch reaCtor operation problem are in agreement with the literature reoorts, and the comoutational efficiency is also high.展开更多

However,SOFCs present a challenging control problem owing to their slow dynamics,nonlinearity and tight operating constraints. A novel data-driven nonlinear control strategy was proposed to solve the SOFC control problem by combining a virtual reference feedback tuning (VRFT) method and support vector machine. In order to fulfill the requirement for fuel utilization and control constraints,a dynamic constraints unit and an anti-windup scheme were adopted. In addition,a feedforward loop was designed to deal with the current disturbance. Detailed simulations demonstrate that the fast response of fuel flow for the current demand disturbance and zero steady error of the output voltage are both achieved. Meanwhile,fuel utilization is kept almost within the safe region.展开更多

Based on the dynamical model of vehicle, by applying Lyapunov function method, the control problem for lane keeping in the presence of parametric uncertainty is studied, the direct adaptive algorithm to compensate for parametric variations is proposed and the terminal sliding mode variable structure control laws are designed with look-ahead references systems. The stability of the system is investigated from the zero dynamics analysis. Simulation results show that convergence rates of the lateral displacement error, yaw angle error and slid angle are fast.展开更多

The rapid development of transportation and increases in vehicle speeds and vehicle weights have resulted in higher vibration and noise levels. In the meantime vibrations and noises that seem to have been tolerated in the past, are now more often considered to be a nuisance. Methodology of assessing ground-borne vibrations for railway traffic is presented based on the Federal Railway Administration (FRA) Guidance Manual-High-Speed Ground Transportation Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment. Effectiveness of wave barriers such as open trench, in-filled trench, and piers for reduction of vibrations induced by railways and the procedure for barrier selection are discussed. Significant propellant mass saving can be obtained with the use of complex multiple intermediate flyby maneuvers for conventional propulsion systems,and trip time also decreases for a portion of the proper solar sail ...Significant propellant mass saving can be obtained with the use of complex multiple intermediate flyby maneuvers for conventional propulsion systems,and trip time also decreases for a portion of the proper solar sail missions.This paper discusses the performance of gravity assist(GA)in the time-optimal control problem of solar sailing with respect to sail lightness number and the energy difference between the initial and final orbit in the rendezvous problem in a two-body model,in which the GA is modeled as a substantial change in the velocity of the sailcraft at the GA time.In addition,this paper presents a method to solve the time-optimal problem of solar sailing with GA in a full ephemeris model,which introduces the third body’s gravity in a dynamic equation.This study builds a set of inner constraints that can describe the GA process accurately.Finally,this study presents an example for evaluating the accuracy and rationality of the two-body model’s simplification of GA by comparison with the full ephemeris model.展开更多

The imperfect a...This paper investigates both the robust semi-global leaderless consensus problem and the robust semi-global containment control problem for a group of identical linear systems with imperfect actuators. The imperfect actuators are characterized by nonlinearities such as saturation and dead zone and there input output relationships are not precisely known. The dynamics of follower agents are also affected by the input additive disturbances. Low-and-high gain feedback consensus protocols are constructed to solve these problems. More specifically, it is shown that robust semi-global leaderless consensus can be achieved over a connected undirected graph and robust semi-global containment control can be achieved when each follower agent has access to the information of at least one leader agent. Formation flying in the vicinity of the libration point is an important concept for space exploration and demands reliable and accurate techniques for the control of a spacecraft.On the basis of previous works,this pa...Formation flying in the vicinity of the libration point is an important concept for space exploration and demands reliable and accurate techniques for the control of a spacecraft.On the basis of previous works,this paper addresses the problem of relative orientation control of spacecraft formation flying utilizing the framework of the circular restricted three-body problem(CR3BP)with the Sun and Earth as the primary gravitational bodies.Two specific tasks are accomplished in this study.First,the tangent targeting method(TTM),an efficient two-level differential correction algorithm,is exploited to control the Chief/Deputy architecture to maintain a prespecified orientation.The time spent within the orientation error corridor between successive maneuvers is maximized while the relative separation between the vehicles is held constant at each target point.The second task is to further optimize the maneuver intervals by dropping the constraint imposed on the relative vehicle separation.Numerical investigation indicates that the number of maneuvers can be significantly reduced and the length of time between successive maneuvers can be greatly increased by utilizing the TTM.展开更多
