Secondary forests account for a large amount of subtropical forest due to persistent anthropogenic disturbance in China.The interaction between vegetation and soil during recovery process is rather complex and depende...Secondary forests account for a large amount of subtropical forest due to persistent anthropogenic disturbance in China.The interaction between vegetation and soil during recovery process is rather complex and dependent on forest conditions.Understanding how vegetation and soil properties changes and how their relationship develops in secondary forests is key to effective forest restoration and management.Here we explored the patterns of vegetation and soil properties as well as their correlations during forest recovery process in a subtropical forest in south China.Plots of three forest types,i.e.,broadleaf-conifermixedforest,broadleaved forest and old growth stand,were established to represent the recovery stages.The results showed that diversity patterns in the tree,shrub and herb layers were different:in the tree layer the species diversity peaked at the intermediate stage,while in the understory layers it decreased chronologically.Most of the soil factors showed an increasing trend,and different effects of soil factors were found for the three layers as well as for the two spatial scales.Together,our results suggested that vegetation and soil might be interdependent during the recovery course.Further studies are needed on exploring how vegetation interplays with soil at different scales and how nutrient limitations affects the vegetation development in a chronosequence.展开更多
Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety and therapeutic effects of autologous dendritic cells co-cultured with cytokine-induced killer cells (DC-CIK) combined with chemotherapy in advanced non-small...Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety and therapeutic effects of autologous dendritic cells co-cultured with cytokine-induced killer cells (DC-CIK) combined with chemotherapy in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. Methods: Fifty patients with advanced NSCLC (stages III to IV), who had received therapies in our Center (Department of Biotherapy, Affiliated to Cancer Hospital of Shanxi Medical University, Taiyuan, China) from August 2008 to January 2010, were treated by DC-CIK + chemotherapy as the combined treatment group; fifty advanced NSCLC patients treated with chemotherapy at the same time served as controls. The immunologic function, short-term therapeutic effects, the 1-year survival rate, the life quality, the chemotherapy side effects were compared between the two groups, the safety and therapeutic effects of DC-CIK cells therapy were observed too. Results: There was no obvious change of subsets of T cells in peripheral blood before and after therapy in DC-CIK + chemotherapy group, and IFN-γ was improved after therapy in this group (P < 0.05); in chemotherapy alone group, the ratios of CD3+CD4+, CD3+CD8+, CD3-CD56+ cells and the secretion of IL-2, TNF-α decreased significantly after therapy (P < 0.05); the ratios of CD3+CD8+, CD3+CD56+ were improved after cell culture (P < 0.05). The disease control rate (DCR) of DC-CIK + chemotherapy group was higher than that in the chemotherapy alone group (78.0% vs 56.0%, P < 0.05); the 1-year survival rates of DC-CIK + chemotherapy group and chemotherapy alone group were 50% and 44% respectively, had no significant difference. Compared with chemotherapy alone group, the occurrence of chemotherapy side effects (including bone marrow suppression, nausea and vomiting, peripheral nerve toxicity) was less in the DC-CIK + chemotherapy group (P < 0.05). The physical and appetite were better in DC-CIK + chemotherapy group after therapy. Conclusion: To compare with simple chemotherapy, DC-CIK + chemotherapy for advanced NSCLC is safe and effective, and it can improve patients' life quality and remission rate, and prolong their survival time.展开更多

Currently, the institute uses advanced extraction technology, the institute also produces new soybean chips and vitamin E from soybean pulp, soybean peptides, phosphatides and oligosaccharides. 120 broilers were randomly divided into 4 groups with 6 replicates in each group and 5 chicken in each replicate. The authors studied influence on performance and body quality of broiler chicken by using soybean phosphatides to take the place of 0.5%, 1% and 1.5% corn of basal daily grain. Conclusion indicated that rates of broiler chicken weight gain were 2.1%, 4.4% and 8.7%, feed utilization rates raised 3.5%, 5.2% and 8.1%, costs reduced 2.3%, 3.5% and 5.8%, chest muscle rates improved 14.7%, 0.9% and -0.49%, belly fat rates improved 11.06%, 20.28% and 44.75% by using soybean phosphatides to take place of corn in daily grain after 42 days. More recently, the study is also involved in the research on improving the meat quality of chicken by adding extracted soybean peptide and phosphatides into feed. Furthermore, nearly 98% post-consumer waste oil with high acid value can be converted into biodiesel by using an effective supercritical methanol method.展开更多
Objective.To investigate the distribution frequency of parathyroid hormone(PTH)gene polymorphism in healthy adults from Bejing area and to explore the association of PTH genotypes with bone mineral density(BMD).Method...Objective.To investigate the distribution frequency of parathyroid hormone(PTH)gene polymorphism in healthy adults from Bejing area and to explore the association of PTH genotypes with bone mineral density(BMD).Methods.PTH gene polymorphism was detected in270subjects by polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and PCR /restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR /RFLP).The digestion products of restriction enzyme Bst B1were separated on1%agarose gels.PTH genotypes were confirmed by DNA sequences analysis.BMD was measured by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry(DEXA,DPX -L ,Lunar).Results.Genotype frequencies of BB,Bb,bb were73.7%,25.9%and0.4%respectively in Beijing adults(P<0.01),67.1%,32.2%and0.7%in postmenopausal women,which was different from Japanese wom-en.We statistically compared bone mineral density at the lumbar2-4and proximal femur between BB and Bb genotypes.No obvious association was found between the BMD and PTH genotypes in Beijing women(P>0.05).Conclusion.PTH gene polymorphism is not associated with BMD in Chinese women.The further research to explore the genetic risk factors of osteoporosis should be committed.展开更多

One of the major materials used in construction is concrete and ordinary concrete contains about 12% cement which is a major producer of greenhouse gas in the world. The use of waste materials as partial replacement of cement in concrete reduces greenhouse gases, frees up land fill space, and reduces raw materials consumption. This contributes towards sustainable development, as in a sustainable society, nature is not subject to systematically increasing concentrations of substances extracted from the earth's crust. This research work explores the possibility of replacing some percentage of cement in concrete with marble sludge powder to produce lightweight concrete. This was achieved by determining the compressive strength and some hardened properties of concrete like sorptivity and carbonation with marble sludge. The results so far have been able to prove that lightweight concrete can be produced when some percentage of cement is replaced with this waste.展开更多

The laser diffraction performance of the SiO2 inverse structure replica was investigated and it was found that the zero-order light spot split into a matrix pattern when the distance between the screen and the sample was increased. This unique diffraction phenomenon is closely related to the structure of the SiO2 inverse structure replica. On the other hand, by analyzing the photoluminescence spectrum of the ZnO replica, optical anisotropy in the ultraviolet band was demonstrated for this material.展开更多

The results play a crucial role on the search of permutation symmetric Boolean functions with good cryptographic properties. The proposed method is algebraic in nature. As a by-product, the authors correct and generalize the corresponding results of St^nic~ and Maitra (2008). Further, the authors give a complete classification of block-symmetric bent functions based on the results of Zhao and Li (2006), and the result is the only one classification of a certain class of permutation symmetric bent functions after the classification of symmetric bent functions proposed by Savicky (1994).展开更多
