A stable gravitational perturbation signal is received within a few days before the earthquakes. The gravitational perturbation signal before the Wenchuan earthquake on May 12, 2008 has main frequency of 0.1–0.3 Hz, and the other four have frequency bands of 0.12-0.17 Hz and 0.06-0.085 Hz. For earthquakes in continental and oceanic plate fault zones, gravity anomalies often appear on the superconducting gravimeters away from the epicenter, whereas the stations near the epicenter record small or no anomalies. The results suggest that this kind of gravitational perturbation signals correlate with earthquake occurrence, making them potentially useful earthquake predictors. The far-field effect of the gravitational perturbation signals may reveal the interaction mechanisms of the Earth’s tectonic plates. However, owing to the uneven distribution of gravity tide stations, the results need to be further confirmed in the future.展开更多

However, the quality of electrode contacts in FET devices heavily influences the device performance, which makes it difficult to obtain the intrinsic electric properties of nanomaterials. Dielectric force microscopy (DFM), a contactless method developed recently, can detect the low-frequency dielectric responses of nanomaterials without electric contact, which avoids the influence of electric contact and can be used to study the intrinsic conductivity of nanomaterials. Here we study the influences of surface adsorbates on the conductivity of ZnO nanowires (NWs) by using FET and DFM methods. The conductivity of ZnO NW is much larger in N2 atmosphere than that in ambient environment as measured by FET device, which is further proven by DFM measurement that the ZnO NW exhibits larger dielectric response in N2 environment, and the influence of electrode contacts on measurement can be ruled out. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the adsorbates on ZnO NW surface highly influence the conductivity of ZnO NW rather than the electrode contact. This work also verifies the capability of DFM in measuring electric properties of nanomaterials.展开更多

Moreover, energy analysis is performed in the presence of an internal heat source and thermal radiation phenomena. The thermal conductivity of base fluid water is strengthened by considering the carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Mathematical formulation operated, results in a set of non-linear coupled partial differential equations. The governed differential system is transformed into an ordinary differential system by considering suitable similarity variables. Exact solutions in the closed form are computed for the temperature, momentum and pressure gradient profiles. In this study, special attention is devoted to the electrical conductivity of the CNTs. Streamlines patterns are also discussed to witness the flow lines for different parameters. Thermodynamics analysis shows that entropy of the current flow system is an increasing function of Brinkmann number, magnetic parameter, nanoparticle concentration parameter and Darcy number.展开更多

The agreements are satisfactory for these two methods, but the deviations of CCSD(T) results are slightly larger than that of MP2, because of CCSD(T)'s inadequate treatment of electron correlation in hypervalent Cl atom.展开更多

We here present a study of hydrogen and its deuterated molecules dissociation on Pd surfaces based on a full-dimensional potential energy surface (PES) constructed by using a simple second moment approximation reactive force field (SMA RFF). Although the descriptions of the adsorbate-substrate interaction contain only the dissociation reaction of H2/Pd(111) system, a good transferability of SMA potential energy surface (PES) is shown to investigate the hydrogen dissociation on Pd(100). Our simulation results show that, the dissociation probabilities of H2 and its deuterated molecules on Pd(111) and Pd(100) surfaces keep non-monotonous variations with respect to the incident energy Ei, which is in good agreement with the previous ab initio molecular dynamics. Furthermore, for the oriented molecules, the dissociation probabilities of the oriented H2 (D2 and T2) molecule have the same orientation dependence behavior as those oriented HD (HT and DT) molecules.展开更多

In the surface of a neutron star or near a black hole, the coupling energy between spin and gravitomagnetic field can be large and detectable. Precise measurement of the position of spectrum lines of the corresponding emission or absorption can help us to determine the gravitomagnetic field and electromagnetic field simultaneously. The ratio △ Ee/△Ep can be served as a quantitative criteria of black hole. In GRBs or X-ray pulsar, absorption spectral lines of electron were observed. If the absorption spectral lines of electron, neutron and proton can be observed simultaneously, using the method given in this paper, we can determine the gravitomagnetic field in the surface of the star, and discriminate black hole from neutron star.展开更多

These solutions are accurate up to the second order of the oscillating magnitude and they are uniformly valid for all time. We obtain the simple analytical expression for the energy density of the field which explicitly manifests that for a cavity vibrating at its -th eigenfrequency, traveling wave packets emerge in the finite part of the field energy density, and their amplitudes grow while their widths shrink in time, representing a large concentration of energy. The finite part of the field energy density originating from the oscillations is shown to be proportional to the factor .展开更多

From the Schroedinger equation obtained from this non-relativistic limit, we can see that the classical Newtonian gravitational potential appears as a part of the potential in the Schroedinger equation, which can explain the gravitational phase effects found in COW experiments. And because of this Newtonian gravitational potential, a quantum particle in the earth's gravitational field may form a gravitationally bound quantized state, which has already been detected in experiments. Three different kinds of phase effects related to gravitational interactions are studied in this paper, and these phase effects should be observable in some astrophysical processes. Besides, there exists direct coupling between gravitomagnetic field and quantum spin, and radiation caused by this coupling can be used to directly determine the gravitomagnetic field on the surface of a star.展开更多
