A numerical example was used to testify the validity of the quenching tank model. In order to take tank parameters (agitation speed, position of directional flow baffle and coordinate position in quench zone) into account, an approach that combines the artificial neural network (ANN) with CFD method was developed to study the flow distribution in the quenching tank. The flow rate of the quenching medium shows a very good agreement between the ANN predicted results and the Fluent simulated data. Methods for the optimal design of the quenching tank can be used as technical support for industrial production.展开更多

Combined with the experimental work, validated mathematical model as well as three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model was established to analyze the flow regions of feedwells on an industrial scale. The concept of RTD, although a well-known method for the characterization of mixing behavior in conventional mixers and reactors, is still a novel measure for the characterization of mixing in feedwells. Numerical simulation results show that the inlet feed rate and the aspect ratio of feedwells are the most critical parameters which affect the RTD of feedwell. Further simulation experiments were then carried out. Under the optimal operation conditions, the volume fraction of dead zone can reduce by10.8% and an increasement of mixing flow volume fraction by 6.5% is also observed. There is an optimum feed inlet rate depending on the feedwell design. The CFD model in conjunction with the RTD analysis then can be used as an effective tool in the design, evaluation and optimization of thickener feedwell in the red mud separation.展开更多

Electrochemical tests including polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy are used to examine the corrosion resistance, and scanning electron microscopy is used to observe the microstructure. The chemical nature of conversion coating is investigated by energy dispersive spectroscopy. And thermodynamic method is used to analyze the optimum pH. The results show that PA conversion coating can improve the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloy. The maximum efficiency achieves 89.19% when the AZ31 Mg alloy is treated by PA solution with pH=5. It makes the corrosion potential of sample shift positively about 156 mV and corrosion current density is nearly an order of magnitude less than that of the untreated sample. The thermodynamic analysis shows that the corrosion resistance of PA coatings is affected by not only the concentration of PA ion and Mg2+ but also the release rate of hydrogen.展开更多

A sub-domain hybrid mesh method was adopted in this paper. The computation domain was separated into two sub-domains, in which tetrahedral elements were used in the inner domain to match the complicated geometry of the propeller, while hexahedral elements were used in the outer domain. The mesh was locally refined on the propeller surface and near the wake flow field, and a size function was used to control the growth rate of the grid. Sections at different axial location were used to study the spatial evolution of the propeller wake in the region ranging from the disc to one propeller diameter (D) downstream. The numerical results show that the axial velocity fluctuates along the wake flow; radial velocity, which is closely related to vortices, attenuates strongly. The trailing vortices interact with the tip vortex at the blades' trailing edge and then separate. The strength of the vortex shrinks rapidly, and the radius decreases 20% at one diameter downstream.展开更多

The necessity of performing a coupled hydromechanical analysis to solve the seepage-deformation interaction problem was illustrated by examining the equations of static equilibrium among the effective stress, seepage force, pore-water pressure and total stress. The conceptual definition of stress variable that satisfies the principles of continuum mechanics is applied in the coupled hydromechanical analysis. It is shown that Terzaghi's effective stress is in fact not a stress variable under seepage conditions, and the seepage force acting on the soil skeleton cannot be viewed as a body force. This offers a clue to the underlying cause of a paradox between the real Pascal's hydrostatic state and the hydrostatic state predicted by a class of continuum hydromechanical theories.展开更多

A series of isothermal compression tests were performed primarily on a Gleeble-3500 thermo-mechanical simulator in a temperature range of 648-748 K and a strain rate range of 0.01-10 s-1.According to the measured true stress-strain data, the strain hardening rate curves(dσ/dε versus σ) were plotted to identify the critical strains for DRX initiation(εc). By further derivation of the related material constants, the DRX volume fraction equation and the strain for 50% DRX(ε0.5) equation were solved. Accordingly, the aforementioned DRX equations were implanted into the FE model to conduct a series of simulations for the isothermal compression tests. The results show that during the evolution of DRX volume fraction at a fixed strain rate, the strain required for the same amount of DRX volume fraction increases with decreasing temperature. In contrast, at a fixed temperature, it increases with increasing strain rate. Ultimately, the DRX kinetics model of AlCu4 SiMg alloy and the consequence of the FE analysis were validated by microstructure observations.展开更多

The stability characteristics for various Stokes numbers and particle concentrations were analyzed after solving the equation numerically using the perturbation method and finite difference. The inclusion of the nonparallel terms produces a reduction in the values of the critical Reynolds number compared with the parallel flow. There is a critical value for the effect of Stokes number, and the critical Stokes number being about unit, and the most efficient instability suppression takes place when Stokes number is of order 10. But the presence of the nonparallel terms does not affect the role of the particles in gas. That is, the addition of fine particles (Stokes number is much smaller than 1) reduces the critical Reynolds number while the addition of coarse particles (Stokes number is much larger than 1) enhances it. Qualitatively the effect of nonparallel mean flow is the same as that for the case of plane parallel flows.展开更多

In order to reduce the influencing factors of the whole dispersion process, single drops where coalescence processes can be neglected were analyzed in this work. Drops passing the turbulent vicinity of a single stirrer blade were investi- gated by high-speed imaging. In order to gain a statistically relevant amount of drops passing the area of interest and corresponding breakage events, at least 1600 droplets were considered for each parameter set of this work. A specially developed fully automatic image analysis based on Matlab was used for the evaluation of the resulting high amount of image data. This allowed the elimination of the time-consuming manual analysis and further- more, allowed the objective evaluation of the drops' behavior. Different deformation parameters were consid- ered in order to describe the drop deformation dynamics properly. Regarding the ratio of both main particle axes (0axes), which was therefore approximated through an ellipse, allowed the determination of very small de- viations from the spherical shape. The perimeter of the particle (0peri) was used for the description of highly de- formed shapes. In this work the results of a higher viscosity paraffin oil (ηd =127 mPa. s) and a low viscosity solvent (petroleum, ηd = 1.7 mPa-s) are presented with and without the addition of SDS to the continuous water phase. All results show that the experimentally determined oscillation but also deformation times underlie a wide spreading. Drop deformations significantly increased not only with increasing droplet viscosity, but also with decreasing interfacial tension. Highly deformed particles of one droplet species were more likely to break than more or less spherical particles. As droplet fragmentation results from a variety of different macro-scale de- formed particles, it is not assumed that a critical deformation value must be reached for the fragmentation pro- cess to occur. Especially for highly deformed particles thin particle filaments are assumed to induce the breakage process and, therefore, be responsible for the separation of drops.展开更多

In the present study, the first and second law thermodynamic analyses of the ACHP with NH3/H20 as working fluid were performed. Thermodynamic properties of each point and heat transfer rate of each component in the cycle under basic operation conditions were calculated from the first law analysis. Following the second law of thermodynamics, the entropy generation of each component and the total entropy generation of the system were obtained. The effect~ of the heating temperature, heat source temperature, and compression ratio on the coefficient of performance (COP) and the total entropy generation ( STot ) of the system were examined. The results show that the increase in COP corresponds to a decrease in STot, and vice versa; besides, for certain operating conditions, an optimum compression ratio in the NH~/H20 ACHP exists.展开更多

METHODS: In this prospective study, conducted over a period of three years, 1,104 patients referred for a same day GI endoscopy procedure were analyzed. All patients were given a propofol bolus (0.5-1.5 mg/kg). Arterial blood pressure (BP) was monitored at 3 rain intervals and heart rate and oxygen saturation (SpO2) were recorded continuously by pulse oximetry. Analyzed data acquisition was carried out before, during, and after the procedure. RESULTS: A statistically significant reduction in mean arterial pressure was demonstrated (P〈0.001) when compared to pre-intervention values, but severe hypotension, defined as a systolic blood pressure below 60mmHg, was noted in only 5 patients (0.5%). Oxygen saturation decreased from 96.5% to 94.4 % (P〈0.001). A critical decrease in oxygen saturation (〈90%) was documented in 27 patients (2.4%). CONCLUSION: Our results showed that propofol provided good sedation with excellent pain control, a short recovery time and no significant hemodynamic side effelts if carefully titrated. All the patients (and especially ASA Ⅲ group) require monitoring and care of an anesthesiologist.展开更多

Following the second law of thermodynamics, the entropy generation of each component and the total entropy generation of the system were obtained. The effect~ of the heating temperature, heat source temperature, and compression ratio on the coefficient of performance (COP) and the total entropy generation ( STot ) of the system were examined. The results show that the increase in COP corresponds to a decrease in STot, and vice versa; besides, for certain operating conditions, an optimum compression ratio in the NH~/H20 ACHP exists.

文摘AIM: To analyze the hemodynamic and respiratory effects of propofol on patients undergoing gastroscopy and colonoscopy. All the patients (and especially ASA Ⅲ group) require monitoring and care of an anesthesiologist.

文摘Based on the boundary condition of field engineering, numerical simulations of28 conditions of existing diffusers of 3 structure types were investigated by ComputationalFluid Dynamics software package, and there were the problems of larger structure resistanceand lower diffusing efficiency of these diffusers by analysis of CFD results.Thestructure outlines of the energy-saving diffuser were constructed by the application ofstream function and potential function superimposing. On the basis of numerical simulationsof energy-saving diffusers of 5 area-enlarging ratios, structural resistances and diffusingefficiencies of 5 energy-saving diffusers were comparatively analyzed, and therange from 2.00 to 2.31 of the rational area-enlarging ratio of energy-saving diffusers wasderived. The optimization area-enlarging ratio of the energy-saving diffuser was presently2.28 through comparable analysis. From the above, the results show that the coefficient ofperformance of the energy-saving diffuser is better than 3 existing diffusers.

文摘Inlet configuration is important parameter of hydrocyclones, which has great impact on the classification performance. The effects of inlet configuration on the precise classification were studied by computational fluid dynamics under variouscombinations of inlet diameter and inlet velocity. The results showed that a high sharpness of classification was achieved withspecific inlet diameter and inlet velocity. The separation efficiency of the coarse particles by underflow significantly decreased wheninlet had an oversize diameter owing to a stronger short-circuit flow.It is resulted from the chaotic flow and the stronger pressuregradient around the vortex finder.Meanwhile,a low separation efficiency of the fine particles by overflow was achieved when inletvelocity was high, which indicated a low sharpness caused by the overlarge centrifugal force.
文摘In 3-mode Fock space we find a new tripartite entangled state |α,γ 】 λ,which make up a new quantum mechanical representation. The state |α,γ 】 λ, can be generated byusing the setup composing of a beam splitter and a parametric down-conversion amplifier. Applicationof the state is briefly discussed.

文摘Presence of fine dust in air causes serious health hazard for mine operators resulting in such serious problems as coal workers’pneumoconiosis and silicosis.Major sources of dust appear of course along the mining face where the minerals are extracted.Proper control and management are required to ensure safe working environment in the mine. Here,we utilize the computational fluid dynamic(CFD)approach to evaluate various methods used for mitigating dust dispersion from the mining face and for ensuring safe level of dust concentration in the mine tunnel for safety of the operators. The methods used include:application of blowing and exhaust fans, application of brattice and combination of both. The results suggest that among the examined methods, implementation of appropriately located brattice to direct the flow from the main shaft to the mining face is the most effective method to direct dust particles away from the mining face.
