The study is carried out to investigate the dependence of the interface damage and the composite tensile strength on the micro parameters of the composite. These parameters contain fiber packing pattern, fiber volume fraction, and the modulus ratio of the fiber to the matrix. The investigation reveals that though the high fiber vo lume fraction, the high fiber′s modulus and the square fiber packing can supply strong reinforcement to the composite, the interface damage is susceptible in these cases. The tensile strength of the composite is dominated by the interface strength when the interface debonding occurs.展开更多

The composite specimens were continuously annealed in an electrical furnace under the protection of argon gas. The microstructures were then observed using scanning electron microscopy. X-ray diffractometry was used to investigate the residual stresses in the specimens. The elemental distribution was analyzed with an electron probe micro analyzer. The tensile strength and hardness were also measured. Results show that the diffusion layers become wide as the heat treatment temperature increases, and the residual stress of the specimen is at a minimum and tensile strength is the largest when being annealed at 250 ℃. Therefore, 250 ℃ is the most appropriate annealing temperature.展开更多

The results show that, with the increase of testing temperatures, the strength decreases, and the plasticity increases firstly and then decreases in homogenized 7050 ingot. When the studied alloy is deformed between 380℃ and 420℃, the deformation resistance is lower and plasticity is better. And the actual heating temperature for ingot before hot extrusion should be controlled between 360 ~C and 400 ~C. At low tensile temperatures, the deformation structure is mainly composed of dislocation substructure. With the increase of testing temperatures, transgranular fracture transforms into intergranular fracture progressively during deformation. At high tensile temperatures, the grain boundaries are weakened, deformation is concentrated at the grain boundaries and the re-orientation of equilibrium phases at grain boundaries appears.展开更多

Our prime focus is on analyzing the possible effects of polymer inclusion in the nanofluid on drag coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number. Dispersion model is considered to study the behavior of fluid flow and heat transfer in the presence of nanoparticles. Molecular approach is opted to explore polymer addition in the base fluid. An extra stress arises in the momentum equation as an outcome of polymer stretching. The governing boundary layer equations are solved numerically. Dependence of physical quantities of engineering interest on different flow parameters is studied. Reduction in drag coefficient, Nusselt number and Sherwood number is noticed because of polymer additives.展开更多
