In this method, molten metal is directly poured into a lower mold, and then pressed to fill cavity by an upper mold being lowered down. For complex liquid flow during pressing, the liquid's pressure changing inside vertical path with various contraction and expansion geometries is newly modeled via the unstationary Bernoulli equation. The mathematical model is derived for a control design of pressing. To conduct the pressing velocity design algorithm, an unknown parameter of proposed model considering viscous flow is identified by using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with heat flow calculation. Control performance using a multi-switching velocity pattern is confirmed as an effective control design using the pressure model, because the pressure fluctuation has discontinuous variation points. Substituting detailed information for mold shape, poured volume and initial temperature into a developed control input generator, an optimum pressing velocity design and a robust design for defect-free production are proposed by the design algorithm based on the construction of an inverse system comprised of the sequential switching from higher to lower speed. Consequently, the effectiveness of the pressing control with reasonable pressure suppression has been demonstrated through CFD.展开更多

Detecting and analyzing incipient activities of partial discharge can provide useful information to diagnostics and prognostics about transformer insulation. So, partial discharge signals embedded in the electric current at ground conductor are measured using the Rogowski coil. These signals are submitted to noise suppression and the partial discharges waveforms are extracted through different ways: using discrete wavelet transform and using empirical mode decomposition. The comparison of these two methods show that the extraction with discrete wavelet transform results in a faster and simpler algorithm than the empirical mode decomposition. In this paper, the procedure is presented to calculate the SIF of crack tips in mode I cracks, mode II cracks and I+II mixed mode cracks. Meanwhile, the results are compared to those calculated by traditional approaches or other approaches based on strain energy density and verified by theoretical solutions. Furthermore, the effect of mesh density near the crack tip is discussed, and the proper location where the strain energy density factor is calculated is also studied. The results show that the SIF calculated by this procedure is close to not only those calculated by other approaches but also the theoretical solutions, thus it is capable of achieving accurate results.Besides, the mesh density around the crack tip should meet such requirements that, in the circular area created, the first layer of singular elements should have a radius about 0.05 mm and each element has a circumferential directional meshing angle to be15°–20°. Furthermore, for a single element around the crack tip, the strain energy density factor is suggested to be calculated in the location where half of the sector element's radius from the crack tip.展开更多

Consequently, multi-scale studies provide a complete characterization of ecological patterns that can further explain the observed variation. Liolaemus constitutes the world's second most speciose lizard genus. In this study, we assessed the relationships between home range size and environmental variables at 3 different spatial scales. The study at a local and regional scale was focused on the habitat specialist Liolaemus multimaculatus. The lizard's home range was calculated using the minimum convex polygon method in populations from grassland sites of the coastal sand dunes of the Argentinean Pampas under 2 different conditions, with or without forestations of Acacia Iongifolia. On the other hand, at a geographical scale we considered the evolutionary implications of 20 species of Liolaemus. Home range size, phylogeny, ecological, environmental, and climatic data were ob- tained from the literature and remote sensing. L. multimaculatus home range varied from 12.66 to 570.00 m. Regionally, this species had smaller home ranges in forested habitats (X: 94.02 m2) com- pared with the non-forested sites (X: 219.78m2). Habitat structure, vegetation types, and food availability would explain the space use at finer scales. When the 20 species of Liolaernus were considered, high mean air temperature and broad thermal amplitudes showed an inverse relationship with home range size. Neither net primary productivity nor phylogeny was good predictors for home range variation at geographical scale. This study highlights the scale dependence of the explicative capability of a set of environmental and intrinsic variables on home range patterns.展开更多
