The linearized system model is considered for investigating the interactions among IPFC and PSS controllers. To improve the stability of whole system again different disturbances, a lead-lag controller is considered to produce supplementary signal. The proposed supplementary controller is implemented to improve the damping of the power system low frequency oscillations(LFOs). Imperialist optimization algorithm(ICA) and shuffled frog leaping algorithm(SFLA) are implemented to search for optimal supplementary controllers and PSS parameters. Moreover, singular value decomposition(SVD) method is utilized to select the most effective damping control signal of IPFC lead-lag controllers. To evaluate the system performance, different operating conditions are considered. Reponses of system in five modes including uncoordinated and coordinated modes of IPFC and PSS using ICA and SFLA are studied and compared. Considering the results, response of system without controller shows the highest overshoot and the longest settling time for rotor angel at the different operating conditions. In this mode of system, rotor speed has the highest overshoot. Rotor angel in the system with only PSS includes lower overshoot and oscillation than system without controller. When PSS is only implemented, rotor speed deviation has the longest settling time. Rotor speed deviation in the uncoordinated mode of IPFC and PSS shows lower overshoot than system with only PSS and without controller. It is noticeable that in this mode, rotor angel has higher overshoot than system with only PSS. The superiority of the suggested ICA-based coordinated controllers is obvious compared with SFLA-based coordinated controllers and other system modes. Responses of coordinated PSS and IPFC SFLA-based supplementary controllers include higher peak amplitude and longer settling time compared with coordinated IPFC and PSS ICA-based controllers. This comparison shows that overshoots, undershoots and the settling times are reduced considerably in coordinated mode of IPFC based controller and PSS using ICA. Analysis of the system performance shows that the proposed method has excellent response to different faults in power system.展开更多

Using a MD (molecular dynamics) simulation, we monitored the time-series of the LRO (long-range order) parameter as LRO pattern, in the case of a type IIa diamond, from the beginning of ion impact by a sub-keV N2 beam implantation to a few nanoseconds, i.e., close to the feasible time limit for MD simulations. Due to the ion impact, the LRO parameter changed gradually from "LRO = 1" (crystal) to "LRO = 0" (amorphous), showing the so-called critical slowing-down phenomenon. However, since PA was started the LRO pattern was not unique. The LRO patterns were grouped into more than three types of phases and the transition between them was also found. From the viewpoint of statistical dynamics, such chaotic variations in the LRO pattern may present that the system is a GCM (globally coupled map) of a complex system in a closed system. A GCM composed of coupled oscillators develops slowly to exhibit several different phases or ‘chaotic itinerancy' over time. Therefore, the long duration required for PA may be attributable to the nature of a complex system.展开更多

Both controller parameters has been optimized by using Ziegler-Nichols close loop tuning method. Both single phase and three phase (L-L) faults have been considered in the research. In this paper, a power system network is considered which is simulated in the phasor simulation method & the network is simulated in four steps; without SVC, With SVC but no externally controlled, SVC with PI controller & SVC with PD controller. Simulation result shows that without SVC, the system parameters become unstable during faults. When SVC is imposed in the network, then system parameters become stable. Again, when SVC is controlled externally by PI & PD controllers, then system parameters becomes stable in faster way then without controller. It has been observed that the SVC ratings are only 50 MVA with controllers and 200 MVA without controllers. So, SVC with PI & PD controllers are more effective to enhance the voltage stability and increases power transmission capacity of a power system. The power system oscillations are also reduced with controllers in compared to that of without controllers. So with both controllers the system performance is greatly enhanced.展开更多

In this work, we introduce a quantity to characterize the correlation between the structural and the dynamical properties and investigate the impacts of the correlation on the synchronization transition in the Kuramoto model on scale-free networks. We find that the synchronization transition may be either a continuous one or a discontinuous one depending on the correlation and that strong correlation always postpones both the transitions from the incoherent state to a synchronous one and the transition from a synchronous state to the incoherent one. We find that the dependence of the synchronization transition on the correlation is also valid for other types of distributions of natural frequency.展开更多

The conjugated fluorescent molecules simultaneously possessing highly tunable emission, high quantum yield in solvents of different polarities, and large Stokes shift are quite rare. Herein, we report a new category of fluorophores based on diarylated thieno[3,4-b]thiophenes efficiently synthesized by direct C-H arylation reaction. TbT-Fluors showed full-color-tunable emissions with large Stokes shifts. Intriguingly, the fluorescence quantum yields of TbT-Fluors are barely sensitive to solvent polarities, approaching 100%. Based on photophysical and theoretical investigations, we found that the enhanced oscillator strength of the S_1-S_0 transition and increased T2-S1 energy difference can sufficiently compensate the negative effect from the decreased energy gap and increased reorganization energy in dimethyl sulfoxide(DMSO). Bioimaging applications revealed that some TbT-Fluors can penetrate the cell membrane and are superior for imaging in terms of high photochemical stability and low cytotoxicity. Furthermore, TbT-PhF exhibits specific colocalization with mitochondria in living cells.展开更多
