In the model, the complex interactions at high temperatures between the electric field, fluid dynamics and the particulate flow are taken into account. We apply different numerical methods for different fields, including an electric field model, Euler-Lagrange particle-laden flows model, and particle charging model. The effects of high temperature on ionic wind, EHD characteristics and collection effi- ciency are investigated. The numerical results show high temperature causes more significant effects of the ionic wind on the gas secondary flow. High viscosity of gas at high temperature makes particles follow the gas flow pattern more closely. High temperature reduces the surface electric strength, so that the mean electric strength weakens the space charging. On the contrary, there is an increase in the diffusion charging at high tem- perature compared with at low temperature. High temperature increases the ratio of mean drag force over mean electrostatic force actin~ on the ~atticles which mav contribute to a decline of collection efficiencv.展开更多

The traditional two-dimensional model exhibits limitations when one attempts to model the de- tailed two-phase flow inside the columns. The present paper presents a three-dimensional computational fluid dy- namics (CFD) model to simulate the two-phase flow in a representative unit of the column. The unit consists of an CFD calculations on column packed with Flexipak 1Y were implemented within the volume of fluid (VOF) mathe- matical framework. The CFD model was validated by comparing the calculated thickness of liquid film with the available experimental data. Special attention was given to quantitative analysis of the effects of gravity on the hy- drodynamics. Fluctuations in the liquid mass flow rate and the calculated pressure drop loss were found to be quali- tatively in agreement with the experimental observations.展开更多

The communication of the outer strap affects the hydraulic force exerted by the spacer grid of the fuel assembly which could induce fuel assembly bow. In present study, in order to understand the influencing factors of hydraulic force exerted by the spacer grid, outer straps with various flow opening design features, different location and size are investigated by a commercially CFD (computational fluid dynamics) code, ANSYS CFX 12.1. Three dimensional rod bundles including the outer strap without and with different openings are modelled for simulation. The analysis results show that the openings on the spacer grid outer strap can reduce the lateral hydraulic loadings perpendicular to the centerline of the fuel rods exerted by the spacer grids obviously because of the pressures inside and outside the spacer grids being balanced. Besides, influences of the opening design features on the hydraulic force, resistance characteristics and lateral flow factor are investigated in details.展开更多

A CFD (computational fluid dynamics) program FLUENT has been used to predict the temperature distribution in steady-state conditions in plate heat exchanger as well as fluid temperatures at exit of flow channels in transient condition. The results are presented for the heat exchanger, which is simulated according to the configuration of the plate heat exchanger used in the experiment. The simulated results obtained by the CFD model have been compared with the experimental data from the literature, which shows that the CFD model developed in this study is capable of predicting the steady-state and transient performance of the plate heat exchangers satisfactorily.展开更多

Our ab initio calculations show that fabrication of hexagonal holes in bigraphene leads to connection of the neighboring edges of the two graphene layers with formation of a hollow carbon nanostructure sheet which displays a wide range of electronic properties (from semiconductor to metallic), depending on the size of the holes and the distance between them. The results were additionally supported by wave packet dynamical transport calculations based on the numerical solution of the time-dependent Schr/Sdinger equation.展开更多

In this study, the entire flow field of the ring fan is simulated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD); the accuracy of the CFD is verified through a comparison with the aerodynamic characteristics of a propeller fan of current model. Moreover, the aerodynamic noise generated by the fan is predicted on the basis of the wake characteristics. The aerodynamic characteristic of the ring fan based on CFD can represent qualitatively the variation in the measured value. The main flow domain of the ring fan is formed at the tip side of the blade because blade tip vortex is not formed at that location. Therefore, the relative velocity of the ring fan is increased by the circumferential velocity. The sound pressure levels of the ring fan within the frequency band of less than 200 Hz are larger than that of the propeller fan. In the analysis of the wake characteristics, it revealed that Karman vortex shedding occurred in the main flow domain in the frequency domain lower than 200 Hz ; the aerodynamic noise of the ring fan in the vortex shedding frequency enlarges due to increase in the relative velocity and the velocity fluctuation.展开更多
