As a disordered fibrous assembly, 2.5- dimension (2.5 D) woven reinforcement materials have complex structure. It poses a challenge to the study of pore structure and the establishment of the theoretical permeability model. Toward addressing this problem, a powerful tool called fractal theory emerged. According to the analysis of 2.5 D woven reinforcement material stmcture using fractal theory, it is found that the structure has an obvious fractal character. Therefore, a permeability fractal model of 2.5D woven reinforcement material was established by cormbining the Hagen-Poiseulle equation with Darcy law according to the capillary vessel fractal model in this paper. The permeability was expressed as a function of the fractal dimension and microstructure parameter of the porous media in this model. The theoretical model is verified by experimental tests and the measurement data are in good agreement with the results obtained from the fractal medel .展开更多

To analyze wetting characteristics, the cross sections of composites are examined by scanning electron microscopy(SEM). The bending tests and microhardness tests are performed to evaluate mechanical properties of composites. The results show that the composites produced by liquid metal infiltration give better properties than those produced by rheocasting or powder metallurgy process, primarily due to the decrease of porosity and reinforcement cluster. For liquid metal infiltration composites, a good adhesion between the fiber and matrix is found. Three points bending test results show that there is an increase in flexural modulus with reinforcement contents. In addition, a series of microhardness tests are conducted to determine the effect of heat treatment on the mechanical property of Al 2O 3/Al composites.展开更多

The effectiveness of confining CFRP sheet on improving the flexural ductility of tmstrengthened T-section beams was studied. The parameters such as the width and the thickness of CFRP sheet and the type of T-section were analyzed. The experimental results show that ductility and rotation capacity of plastic hinge can be improved by the confinement of CFRP sheet, and the ductility indices increase with the increment of width and thickness of CFRP sheet. A plastic rotation model considering the width of CFRP sheet and the effect of flange of T-section beam is proposed on the basis of the model of BAKER, and the test results show a good agreement with the perdicted results. The relevant construction suggestions for seismic retrofitting design of beam-slabs system in cast-in-place framework structure are presented.展开更多

During fabrication of a denture, the physical and mechanical properties are influenced by cure condition. Each cure cycle or fabrication technique is attempts to optimize the properties for a given application. The aim of this study was to compare two types of commercially available denture base materials (heat-cure and self-cure) in their mechanical properties. The samples were prepared according to the daily routine work for sample preparation in dental laboratories. After reaching dough stage the mix packed into dumbbell shaped of stainless steel mould and pressed in a hydraulic bench press for 25 mins at room temperature. For heat cure the polymerization cycle was carried out using water bath, while self cure was done at room temperature. The impact strength was evaluated using Charpy impact test. The hardness test was conducted using a calibrated Vickers hardness tester machine. The lowest impact strength was observed in self-cure denture base material (self cure material 6.2 kJ/m^2 while heat cure 12.69 kJ/m^2. It appears that the tendency of heat cure to fracture was lower than self-cure denture base materials. Heat cure denture base material has significantly higher hardness test values than self-cure denture base material. The observed VHN value of the heat-cure was 20.09 g/mm^2 while the self-cure value was 12.7 g/mm^2. This is may be due to the plasticizer effect of residual monomer which was higher in self curing material as reported in previous work. Generally, the heat cure material showed better properties compared to self cure material.展开更多

The surface to be bonded was spiked by punching small holes of 2 mm in diameter with 10 mm spacing. The aim is to increase bonding capacity by having small studs. Five beams with the dimension of 100 mm x 200 mm x 3,000 mm were tested where one of the beams was used as control beam (unstrengthened). The remaining beams were strengthened with different configurations before tested to failure under four-point loading. The results showed that the ductility was increased as the percentage of CFRP increased. The ductility was dramatically improved where the highest ductility index based on deflection method was 2.2 where the percentage increase was 37.5%, whereas the highest ductility index based on energy method was 3.2 where the percentage increase was 88.2%. From this study, it was found that 0.3% is the optimum value of CFRP area to achieve maximum ductility index. Ductility index obtained from energy method gives higher values when compared to deflection method. All beams in this study did not fail due to peel off or debonding. It was also proved that the spikes that have been made at the wood surface were very effective for bonding.展开更多

Numerous experiments have been conducted to detect the long-term mechanical properties of the epoxy resin materials used in FRP (fiber reinforced polymers) strengthening and maintenance technique. Experiments were used to develop a short-term test and construct a model that can reliably predict the long-term behavior of epoxy resin. Furthermore, FEA (finite element analysis) models were developed, using the ANSYS software, to simulate three unstrengthened and FRP strengthened prestressed concrete girder bridges of different configurations. Models simulate the original and aged properties of construction and retrofitting materials under the application of AASHTO (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials) fatigue truck and a site-specific fatigue truck in different scenarios. These models were used to develop the bridge performance chart for the capacity of the bridge, with and without strengthening interventions, as a BMS tool. The results show an immediate significant improvement in the concrete tensile stress with the intervention of FRP strengthening.展开更多
