It is found that the nucleation time shows a clear-cut minimum with the variation of oscillation frequency, wherein the average size of the critical nuclei is the smallest, indicating that an oscillating external field with an optimal frequency can be much more favorable to the nucleation process than a constant field. We have also investigated the effect of the initial phase of the external field, which helps to illustrate the occurrence of such an interesting finding.展开更多

In the model, the complex interactions at high temperatures between the electric field, fluid dynamics and the particulate flow are taken into account. We apply different numerical methods for different fields, including an electric field model, Euler-Lagrange particle-laden flows model, and particle charging model. The effects of high temperature on ionic wind, EHD characteristics and collection effi- ciency are investigated. The numerical results show high temperature causes more significant effects of the ionic wind on the gas secondary flow. High viscosity of gas at high temperature makes particles follow the gas flow pattern more closely. High temperature reduces the surface electric strength, so that the mean electric strength weakens the space charging. On the contrary, there is an increase in the diffusion charging at high tem- perature compared with at low temperature. High temperature increases the ratio of mean drag force over mean electrostatic force actin~ on the ~atticles which mav contribute to a decline of collection efficiencv.展开更多

Firstly, both the stretching and bending moments of the bonds between the material points are added to peridynamic pairwise force functions, and the coordinate transformation of the micro-beam made up of bonds is deduced. Therefore, the numerical calculation implementation of the improved micropolar peridynamic model is obtained. Then, the strain values are obtained by solving the difference equation based on the displacement values of material points, and the stress values can be calculated according to generalized Hook’s law. The elastic and plastic deformation stages can be estimated based on the von Mises yield criterion, and different constitutive equations are adopted to simulate the damage evolution. Finally, the proposed micropolar peridynamic model is applied to simulate the damage evolution of a metal plate with a hole under velocity boundary conditions, and the effectiveness of the model is verified through experiments. In the experiments, the displacement and strain distributions in the stretching process are analyzed by the digital image correlation(DIC) method. By comparing the results, the proposed model is more accurate than the bond-based peridynamic model and the error of the proposed model is 7.2% lower than that of the bond-based peridynamic model. By loading different velocity boundary conditions, the relationship between the loads and damage evolution is studied.展开更多

In the model, three distinct aggregates grow by exchange of monomers and in parallel, birth of species A is catalyzed by species B and death of species A is catalyzed by species C. The rates for both catalysis processes are proportional to kj^v and ky respectively, where ν(ω) is a parameter reflecting the dependence of the catalysis reaction rate of birth (death) on the catalyst aggregate's size. The kinetic evolution behaviors of the three species are investigated by the rate equation approach based on the mean-field theory: The form of the aggregate size distribution of A-species αk(t) is found to be dependent crucially on the two catalysis rate kernel parameters. The results show that (i) in case of ν ≤O, the form of ak (t) mainly depends on the competition between self-exchange of species A and species-C-catalyzed death of species A; (ii) in case of ν 〉 0, the form of αk(t) mainly depends on the competition between species-B-catalyzed birth of species A and species-C-catalyzed death of species A.展开更多

The objective of test was to determine the core inlet flow field of the model reactor in order to provide input information required by the open core thermal margin analysis code such as TORC. In this study, in order to examine the validity of the results of reactor flow model tests and the applicability of CFD (computational fluid dynamics) in the simulation of reactor internal flow, CFD simulation was conducted with the commercial multi-purpose CFD software, ANSYSCFX V. 14. It was found that the velocity field in the downcomer had the inhomogeneous feature. Relative high velocity region was located in the core region. This result was different from measurement and this difference may result from the fact that some internal structures were not modeled with the real geometry but treated as the porous domain.展开更多

The effective-field equations of motion of the average magnetization are given for the honeycomb lattice (Z = 3). The Liapunov exponent A is calculated for discussing the stability of the magnetization and it is used to determine the phase boundary. In the field amplitude ho / ZJ-temperature T/ZJ plane, the phase boundary separating the dynamic ordered and the disordered phase has been drawn. In contrast to previous analytical results that predicted a tricritical point separating a dynamic phase boundary line of continuous and discontinuous transitions, we find that the transition is always continuous. There is inconsistency between our results and previous analytical results, because they do not introduce sufficiently strong fluctuations.展开更多

General hypotheses are formulated, which are the qualitative results of the asymptotic method of integration of the stated initial-boundary value problem. On the basis of the accepted hypotheses general applied one-dimensional models of dynamics of bending deformation of micropolar orthotropic elastic thin bars with free fields of displacements and rotations are constructed with and without consideration of shear deformations. With the help of the constructed models different dynamic problems of micropolar bars can be studied. Here concrete problems of free and forced vibrations of hinged supported micropolar orthotropic elastic thin bar are studied. Numerical analysis is done and specific features of dynamic characteristics of micropolar material are revealed. Particularly, it is shown that there is a frequency of vibrations of the micropolar bar that does not depend on bar sizes.展开更多

The model is based on the assumption that, the inhibitory projects from thalamus reticular nucleus(TRN) to specific relay nuclei(SRN) are mediated by GABAA and GABAB receptors which react different time scales in synaptic transmission.Secondly, we include the effects of slow modulation on the threshold current of TRN population that were found to generate bursting behavior. Our model can reproduce healthy and pathological dynamics including wake, spindle, deep sleep, and also seizure states. In addition, contour maps are used to explore the transition of different activity states. It is worthy to point out seizure duration is significantly affected by a time-varying delay as illustrated in our numerical simulation. Finally, a reduced model ignoring the cerebral cortex mass can also capture the feature of spike wave discharge as generated in the full network.展开更多

We have to observe and model the vector magnetic field to understand the structures and physical mechanisms of these solar activities. Vector magnetic fields on the photosphere are routinely observed via the polarized light, and inferred with the inversion of Stokes profiles. To analyze these vector magnetic fields, we need first to remove the 180° ambiguity of the transverse components and correct the projection effect. Then, the vector magnetic field can be served as the boundary conditions for a force-free field modeling after a proper preprocessing. The photospheric velocity field can also be derived from a time sequence of vector magnetic fields.Three-dimensional magnetic field could be derived and studied with theoretical force-free field models, numerical nonlinear force-free field models, magnetohydrostatic models, and magnetohydrodynamic models. Magnetic energy can be computed with three-dimensional magnetic field models or a time series of vector magnetic field. As a well conserved physical quantity, magnetic helicity can be computed with various methods, such as the finite volume method, discrete flux tube method, and helicity flux integration method.
