A dynamical-statistical post-processing approach is applied to seasonal precipitation forecasts in China during the summer.The data are ensemble-mean seasonal forecasts in summer (June August) from four atmospheric ge...A dynamical-statistical post-processing approach is applied to seasonal precipitation forecasts in China during the summer.The data are ensemble-mean seasonal forecasts in summer (June August) from four atmospheric general circulation models (GCMs) in the second phase of the Canadian Historical Forecasting Project (HFP2) from 1969 to 2001.This dynamical-statistical approach is designed based on the relationship between the 500 geopotential height (Z500) forecast and the observed sea surface temperature (SST) to calibrate the precipitation forecasts.The results show that the post-processing can improve summer precipitation forecasts for many areas in China.Further examination shows that this post-processing approach is very effective in reducing the model-dependent part of the errors,which are associated with GCMs.The possible mechanisms behind the forecast's improvements are investigated.展开更多

A strain gauge-based walker instrumentation system was developed ...A new measurement and analysis method was proposed to investigate the changes in elbow joint moments that occur with the use of a front-wheeled walker. A strain gauge-based walker instrumentation system was developed to monitor the hand loads during walker-assisted walking and integrated with an upper extremity biomechanical model, Preliminary system data were collected for 12 subjects following informed consent. Bilateral upper extremity kinematic data were acquired with a six-camera motion analysis system. Internal joint moments at the elbow were determined in the three clinical planes using the inverse dynamics method. Results showed that during a walker-assisted gait elbow joint moments mainly distributed in the walker stance period. There was a noted demand on the elbow extensor in the sagittal plane with the greatest record as 0.381 N.m/(kg.m), An interesting “bare phase” of mean elbow joint moments was also found in phase angle-240°-340° of gait cycle. Complete description of elbow joint moments of walkerassisted gait may provide insight into walker use parameters and rehabilitative strategies.展开更多

Due to the requirements of longitudinal rigidity, the structural form and the corresponding foundation type of middle pylon are different from those of the ordinary steel pylon, and the complicated dynamic characteristics make the calculation quite difficult. In this article, exploration has been made in selection of similarity ratio and model materials, section simulation, restriction conditions simulation, fixing of mass blocks, fabrication scheme and testing method by taking into account different construction and working conditions such as restriction conditions and working environment of a three-pylon suspension bridge, to conduct the test experimental design of the dynamic behavior of the middle pylon, with the purpose to reveal its dynamic characteristics and make comparison and analysis with theoretical assumptions, to provide basis for anti-wind and anti-seismic design and reference for the design and research of three-pylon two-span suspension bridges in the future.展开更多

A fault-tolerant control method based on fuzzy neural networks was presented for nonlinear systems in this paper. The fault parameters were designed to detect the fault, adaptive updating method was introduced to estimate and track fault, and fuzzy neural networks were used to adjust the fault parameters and construct automated fault diagnosis. And the fault compeusation control force, which was given by fault estimation, was used to realize adaptive fault-tolerant control. This framework leaded to a simple structure, an accurate detection, and a high robusmess. The simulation results in induction motor show that it is still able to work well with high dynamic performance and control precision under the condition of motor parameters' variation fault and load torque disturbance.展开更多

Toruk is an experimental test bench to study center of gravity steering, effect of the location of the center of gravity, controller design and implementation, etc. Physical components are also briefly discussed in this paper. Attitude dynamics of the system is inherently unstable. It is stabilized by a regulator. In addition, an observer is designed and utilized to estimate the unmeasured states. Thrust force generated by the propulsion unit is estimated by using the identified mathematical model of the unit. An experimental setup is employed to identify the mathematical model that expresses the relation between the applied input voltage to the propulsion unit and thrust produced by the propeller. Mathematical model for the attitude dynamics of Toruk is built. Then controllability and observability analysis are carried out for the system. Dynamic compensator composed of a state observer and a regulator, is designed on the mathematical model. Physical implementation on the system will be performed.展开更多
Based on the 1983~2011 CMAP data,the precipitation anomaly in East Asia and its nearby sea regions(hereafter called East Asia for short) demonstrates the "+-+" pattern before 1999 and the "-+-" pattern afterw...Based on the 1983~2011 CMAP data,the precipitation anomaly in East Asia and its nearby sea regions(hereafter called East Asia for short) demonstrates the "+-+" pattern before 1999 and the "-+-" pattern afterwards; this decadal change is contained principally in the corresponding EOF3 component.However,the NCC_CGCM forecast results are quite different,which reveal the "+-+-" pattern before 1999 and the "-+-+" pattern afterwards.Meanwhile,the probability of improving NCC_CGCM's forecast accuracy based on these key SST areas is discussed,and the dynamic-statistics combined forecast scheme is constructed for increasing the information of decadal change contained in the summer precipitation in East Asia.The independent sample forecast results indicate that this forecasting scheme can effectively modify the NCC_CGCM's decadal change information contained in the summer precipitation in East Asia(especially in the area of 30°N–55°N).The ACC is 0.25 and ACR is 61% for the forecasting result based on the V SST area,and the mean ACC is 0.03 and ACR is 51% for the seven key areas,which are better than NCC_CGCM's system error correction results(ACC is -0.01 and ACR is 49%).Besides,the modified forecast results also provide the information that the precipitation anomaly in East Asia mainly shows the "+-+" pattern before 1999 and the "-+-" pattern afterwards.展开更多

The traditional discrete Fourier transform (DFT) ...Under dynamic conditions, the signals of power system have time-varying magnitude and frequency, which might lead to considerable errors for synchrophasor measurement. The traditional discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based algorithms used in Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) are hard to meet the requirements of measurement accuracy because of the existence of spectral leakage. A dynamic phasor measurement algorithm is proposed in this paper in which the input sampled data are considered as non-stationary signals with amplitude modulation-frequency modulation (AM-FM) form, and the measurement is achieved by AM-FM demodulation. An angle-shifted energy operator (ASEO) is used to extract the instantaneous amplitude and low pass differential filter is introduced for frequency estimation. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm can effectively improve the phasor measurement accuracy and has very short response time for PMU under dynamic conditions.展开更多
