论述了英汉修辞中的语篇结构和衔接手段的差异及其在化学英语教学中的应用。语篇是任何不完全受句子语法约束的、在一定语境下表达完整语义的自然语言,它通常由一个以上的语段或句子构成,具有句法上的组织性和交际上的独立性;修辞是语篇的一个重要方面。在布局谋篇时,为达到语义上的连贯流畅采取的手段等方面,英汉两种语言有很大的不同。

An investigational study of non-English majors＇ international communication competence and countermeasures

Based on the data collected from the questionnaires, this paper discusses various problems concerning intercultural communication competence the non-English majors at ＂high-leveled, applicationoriented＂ level faced in Shanghai Institute of Technology. Besides, it analyzes the necessity and feasibility in developing intercultural communication competence, and puts forward some constructive suggestions to enhance intercultural communication competence in adult English teaching.

“English for Chemistry”课程实践与反思

化学英语是北师大附属实验中学校本课程科技英语课程体系的一个分支。为了将各个学科的学习与英语学习紧密结合，我们提出了科技英语的课程目标，并在该目标的指引下陆续展开了课程教材的编写和课程实践。化学英语作为该课程体系中的重要组成部分，最先完成了教材的编写，并以该教材为蓝本进行了课堂实践，效果良好。这些课堂实验获得了大量的新鲜素材，为教材的进一步编写和后续课程的开发积累了大量经验。本文旨在对整个课程的开发和课堂实践进行简要介绍，并试图站在新课程开发的角度反思上述实践，探讨教师在新课程开发中的位置以及教师怎样伴随新课程的开发而成长。

Instruction of Nominalization by Applying Enabling of POA

It is noticeable that the academic papers written by Chinese English learners are lacking in academic features largely due to their poor ability to use nominalization.Therefore,the instruction of nominalization in an academic English writing course is badly needed.The author conducted onesemester-long instruction of nominalization to 90 non-English majors under the guidance of the production-oriented approach(POA).This research demonstrated how to apply POA,specifically,the enabling procedure to the teaching of nominalization.By triangulating the data of students’interviews,learning journals and written output,and the data of 4 teachers’class observations and interviews,this study found that the accurate application of the three criteria of effective enabling contributed to the improvement of the quantity and quality of nominalization in academic writing.

A Brief Analysis of Culture Aphasia in Higher English Teaching in China

Culture is a result of the accumulation of human society; language is the important carrier of culture. Infiltration of Western culture and the widely use of English seriously hinder the globalization of the Chinese culture and it results in ＂cultural aphasia＂ phenomenon. After having studied foreign language for several years, many foreign language learners still cannot express Chinese traditional culture correctly in international communication. This is mainly due to the neglect of Chinese culture in the process of foreign language teaching. With the development of globalization, the communication between different cultures has become more and more frequent It is necessary to pay more attention to the output of native language culture as well as the input of target language culture. As the main places of cultivating high-level talents in China, colleges and universities are focusing on how to change this phenomenon in the foreign language teaching reform. This paper begins with the introduction of ＂cultural aphasia＂ phenomenon in China, then analyzes the reasons, finally proposes suggestions and teaching strategies to overcome the culture aphasia in cross-cultural communication.

Teaching Literature Course in the Cultural Perspective

The course of English and American literature plays an important role in ELT （English Language Teaching）, however, English majors in class are tired of the conversationalist＇s introduction by the teacher of literary backgrounds, characters, plots, even the literary writing styles. Consequently, the course of literature goes into the bottleneck because of the null of cultural addition.The literature class seems out of moded, even CAI （Computing Aided Instruction） fails to motivate students. How to solve the problem？ This paper takes teaching methodology of literature in the cultural perspective to solve the problem. It is feasible for teachers to improve students＇ intercultural communication competence in cultural content imput in the literature course.

An Ecological Exploration of the Culture of English as an International Language Among Iranian English Language Teachers in Light of Vygotsky＇s Genotypic Approach

Language ecology is defined as the study of the interactions between any given language and its environment. It is primarily determined by the people who learn it, who use it, and more important than the previous ones by the people who transmit it to the others; that is, language teachers. English language is used as an additional language almost all over the world and an indispensable part of the ecology of this international language is culture. Thus, an ecological perspective demands a particular view of the practice of the culture of English language as situated and localized. Exploring such practice within the diverse contexts of the use of English language should be based on the genesis underpinning English language teachers＇ thoughts and practice. Therefore, the purpose of the present study was to explore Iranian English language teachers＇ attitudes, knowledge, and skills of teaching culture in light of Vygotsky＇s genotypic approach. To do so, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 35 English language teachers in Iran. Their records were analyzed and discussed in terms of four different and interrelated spans, namely phylogenetic, cultural-historic, ontogenetic, and microgenetic. Phylogenetic span focuses on the development of language teachers as natural species and their physical evolution. The cultural historic span concerns the development of language teachers based on social, cultural, and historic bases. Ontogenetic domain investigates the role of language teachers across their human life span. Microgenetic span is related to a set of roles, activities, and interpersonal relations experienced by the developing person in a given setting. The findings of the study have indicated that there is a sharp contrast between Iranian English language teachers＇ attitudes towards teaching culture and their practice in the classroom which is due to the divergence between the their ontogenetic development of culture teaching on one hand and the policies of the English language institutes develop within the cultural historic span on the other hand.

On Dilemma Analysis and Reasonable Measure Construction of Higher Vocational College English

English is used an important course of higher vocational colleges, which can greatly improve stuctents＂ language application ability to a great extent and it can also make students understand western culture knowledge through foreign language learning. But in current higher vocational colleges, it faces many dilemmas. Enhance the confidence of the academic theories and promote the localization of the English professional teaching theories in Chinese universities

With the acceleration of the process of the globalization, the teaching of the English major is becoming more and more important. The teaching should take the students as the main subjects, and the teaching of English should be based on the ability of the students. Our country is a big economic country, and the knowledge of English is spread widely in China, but most of its theoretical researches are t^om abroad. We should pay enough attention to the contents of this theoretical research. This kind of situation has also aroused the high attention of the relevant educational personnel. Therefore, we need to improve the self-confidence of the academic theories, strengthen the existing teaching theories and promote the localization of the teaching of English majors in an all-round way, which is also the key point of this article.

Research on the Relationship of Cross-Cultural Context and English Teaching from the Perspective of the Development of Linguistics and Pedagogy： A Theoretical Review

In this paper, we conduct theoretical review on the relationship of cross-cultural context and the English teaching from the perspective of the development of linguistics and pedagogy. To learn a foreign language is mainly used for the purpose of intercultural communication and successful communication depends on not only good language structure knowledge depends on understanding and grasp of the cultural context in communication. Diversified teaching mode should be designed according to different teaching goal. Teachers should according to the actual circumstance of various other class teaching, planning and design to reflect the personalized teaching. The words carry each other＇ s national culture information and reflect the national mentality of the humanities, represent the cultural background of different languages which have distinct and unique ethnic characteristics.

A Study of Localization of Task-Based Language Teaching in China

In view of a series of challenges since Task-Based Language Teaching(TBLT) was introduced into China, we interviewed 14 front-line teachers in primary and secondary schools about their viewpoints and classroom strategies of TBLT. The results show teachers’ willingness to use TBLT. They adopt flexible teaching procedures, apply TBLT creatively, and explore task-based language assessment. The authors argue for inclusive non-doctrinaire approaches to TBLT, and propose to construct localized TBLT theory and practice with Chinese characteristics.

Intercultural Communication Failure： A Case Study

The paper makes a case study of the intercultural communication failure, which is caused by the presence of stereotypes and preconceptions. It analyzes the communication problems with Hyme＇s SPEAKING framework. From the analysis, it is concluded, that individuals who hope to carry out effective intercultural interaction must learn to understand the expectations and preconceptions of those they want to talk with.

Comparison between the Chinese time view and the western view

The difference between the Chinese time view and the western time view originates from agricultural civilization＇s inertia and industrial civilization＇s feeling way. This time coordinate controls people＇s behavior, awareness of concepts, industrial relationship, interpersonal relationship and value orientation. Different cultures bred different time conceptions and time behaviors. This paper mainly talks about the aspects of their differences. When different time views are reflected in cross-cultural communication, conflicts and obstacles of interpersonal communication may arise. With the development of social economy and cultural communication, the time views of Chinese culture and western culture have impacts on each other and are gradually integrated with each other.

Cultural awareness in the English language classroom： Curriculum and assessment

More prominence is given to cultural awareness as a general objective in modem language curriculum. But in the implementation of cultural content and assessment within the curriculum raise issues： How the language teachers integrate the cultural awareness into the language classroom or outside class and how it is assessed effectively？ This paper first reviews the content of cultural awareness and assessment approaches at different stages in the curriculum. And then, some teaching cultural skills are mentioned on the base of making some observations on the cultural element of the curriculum. Finally, the author thinks that the assessment approach： cultural portfolios and projects should be advocated to help students in gaining insights into the target culture.
