In fact, a majority of cancer survivors report being in good general health and experience good to excellent quality of life. A recent review suggests that at least 50% of survivors suffer from some late effects of cancer treatment. The most common problems in cancer survivors are depression, pain, and fatigue. The guidelines suggest the following standards for survivorship care:(1) prevention of new and recurrent cancers and other late effects;(2) surveillance for cancer spread, recurrence, or second cancers;(3) assessment of late psychosocial and medical effects;(4) intervention for consequences of cancer and treatment(eg, medical problems, symptoms, psychologic distress, financial and social concerns); and(5) coordination of care between primary care providers and specialists to ensure that all of the survivor's health needs are met. The NCCN Survivorship Panel hopes that these guidelines can help both oncologic and primary health care professionals lessen the burden left on survivors by their cancer experience so they can transition back to a rewarding life.展开更多

Early stage: Appearance of the early symptoms and signs of Parkinson's disease, but short in duration and mild in severity, which do not affect the social communications, daily life and work of the patient; and their modified Hoehn & Yahr grading is 1,0-1.5. Mid stage: With the symptoms and signs of Parkinson's disease getting worse and affecting the social communications, daily life and work of the patient, those who have their modified Hoehn & Yahr grading 2-3 need medical treatment. Late stage: The patients have severe clinical symptoms of Parkinson's disease, and Levodopa preparation is insufficient for them to maintain their daily life; and their modified Hoehn & Yahr grading is 4-5. The three treating methods are: TCM medical treatment adopted at the early stage; the combined treatment of Chinese and western medicine at the mid stage; and comprehensive treatment with multi-theraoies at the late stage.展开更多

The study on human constitution in Chinese medicine has ever increased since the late 1970s. The results showed that the curative rate and the total effective rate of the treatment group were 91.25% and 98.75% separately, while those of the control group 62.86% and 92.86% respectively. Comparison of the curative rate between the 2 groups showed a remarkable significance (P<0.01). The observation demonstrated that combined treatment of prolapse of lumbar intervertebral disc with traditional Chinese and Western medicine is an effective approach.展开更多

The disease has gradually received widespread attention in the medical field, and the treatment program of the disease and the operational program also made a lot of experts devoted into the relevant researches. This paper cites some practical examples to briefly elaborate the curative effect of the surgical operations on the gastrointestinal tumors and has carried out the summary, hoping to provide certain references for the related researches.展开更多

A total of 140 patients with stable COPD were enrolled and randomized into two groups, with 70 patients in each. The treatment group was treated with Bufei granule, while the control group received Bufei placebo. The pharmacological treatment lasted for 12 weeks from the date of enrollment. Then, the indexes of patients were observed. Data were analyzed to study the effect of Bufei granule, with the frequency of acute exacerbation as the primary outcome. Traditional Chinese Medicine syndromes,Modified British Medical Research Council dyspnea scale score, St.George's respiratory questionnaire scores, pulmonary function, and serum inflammatory marker levels [including interleukin-6(IL-6), interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor-α, and transformation growth factor-β1]were the secondary outcomes.RESULTS: During the 12-week treatment, treatment and control groups had no adverse reactions. The analysis of the indexes obtained from all patients showed that the therapeutic effect in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group because most of the similar probabilities of primary and secondary outcomes were less than 0.05,except for the level of IL-6.CONCLUSION: Bufei granule can treat patients with stable COPD by lowering the frequency of acute exacerbation, improving the quality of life, and alleviating the severity of inflammation.展开更多

So the authors presume that the mechanisms of traditional Chinese medicine on the prevention and treatment of cancer may be related to the yin-yang balance of the niche of cancer stem cells.展开更多

Methods: Sixty-two children with primary IgA nephropathy diagnosed for the first time by renal biopsy in the authors’ hospital were randomly divided into a group of 34 cases treated with both TCM and Western medicine and a group of 28 cases treated with Western medicine for six months. The improvements in urinary protein and red blood cell (RBC) were observed and the scores for TCM symptoms and signs were evaluated after 3 months and 6months of treatment. Results: There was no significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups (χ2=4.743, P>0.05 after treatment for 3 months; and χ2=1.953, P>0.05 after treatment for 6 months). However, the cure plus marked effect rate in the group treated with both TCM and Western medicine was higher than that in the group treated with Western medicine (71.9% vs 45.5%, P<0.05 after treatment for 3 months). At the end of treatment, significant difference were found in the effective rate (9.3% vs 10.5%, χ2=9.653, P<0.01) and in the total score (0.81+1.18 vs 3.42+2.52,t=4.19, P<0.001) between the two groups. Conclusion: Treatment with both TCM and Western medicine can effectively improve the TCM symptoms and signs in child patients with IgA nephropathy, and alleviate hematuria and albuminuria.展开更多

These inpatients were divided into group A(treatment group) and B(control group) in order of admission according to the principles of randomization and control. The research was performed simultaneously in three hospitals. Two groups were given basic treatment that included: controlled oxygen therapy, active and effective anti-infection, maintaining airway patency, correcting O_2 deficiency and CO_2 retention, correcting acid-base imbalance and electrolyte disturbance, reducing pulmonary hypertension and treating right heart failure, nutritional support and treatment of complications. Group A was given basic treatment and integrated Traditional Chinese Medi-cine(TCM) differentiating therapy; group B was given basic therapy and a placebo that was similar in appearance and taste to TCM medicinal broth of pharmaceutical preparations, provided by Yibin Pharmaceutical Company(Yibin, China, Wuliangye Group).RESULTS: The mortality in the treatment group decreased by 4.98% compared with the control group. The treatment group reported improved ventilation, corrected hypoxemia, improved nutritional status and promoted digestive functions. It also significantly improved the patient's self-life skills, improved the patient's quality of life and could shorten the length of hospital stay.CONCLUSION: Comprehensive integrated TCMWM treatment showed good clinical efficacy toward the acute onset period of PHD patients.展开更多
