Immature embryos of 45 wheat cultivars were cultured, and 11.1% of the genotypes regenerated floral organs from the calli near the bases of the green buds or plantlets regenerated. The floral buds were morphologically incomplete with the appearances of unisexual pistillate flowers which were naked, clustered with normal ovaries and exuberant feather-like stigmas, but without stamens, paleas, lemmas and glumes. The histological examination showed that the pistils originated from the meristematic cells near the green buds or plantlets, and the clustered pistils were formed by secondary pistillate regeneration. The development of the feather-like structures was earlier than that of the ovules. Biovule developed from an ovary besides normal uniovule. Statistical analysis by X 2 test for independency demonstrated highly significant difference of flower regeneration among the tested genotypes. Wheat cultivar YA-1 revealed higher percentage (44.4%) than other genotypes, and the response could well be repeated in different years. It was indicated that the floral regeneration of immature embryo explants of YA-1 is relatively stable. The frequency of floral regeneration was mainly regulated by the components in the subculture media, compared with the response of the dedifferentiation media, despite the obviously different components involving basal medium type, inorganic Fe2+ concentration and plant growth regulators. The results suggested the combination of 6-benzylaminopurine, alpha-naphthalene acetic-acid and doubled inorganic Fe2+ might be more beneficial to inducing the floral development than that of 2,4-D and normal inorganic Fe2+ concentration in subculture medium. However, both immature inflorescence and mature embryo, as cultured explants of YA-1, did not regenerate any flower organs. It is believed that the immature embryo culture of YA-1 can be used to establish ideal experimental system for the study of floral developmental mechanism in wheat.展开更多

A total of 35 different fatty acids were determined in gas chromatography. Among these, palmitic, oleic, and palmitoleic acids had the highest proportion. The main polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) were found to be docosahexaenoic acid, eicosapentaenoic acid, and arachidonic acid. There were more PUFAs than monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) in all seasons. Similarly, the percentages of ω3 fatty acids were higher than those of total ω6 fatty acids in the fatty acid composition. ω3/ω6 ratios were calculated as 1.53, 1.32, 1.97, and 1.71 in spring, summer, autumn and winter, respectively. Overall, we found that the fatty acid composition and ω3/ω6 fatty acid ratio in the muscle of northern pike were significantly influenced by season.展开更多

The study consisted of testing the effects of four different growth media (Clay, Loam, Clay + sheep manure (1:1) and Loam + sheep manure (1:1) as volumetric rates on vegetative and flowering growth characters of five different cultivars of Hyacinths plant (Blue Giant, City of Haarlem, Jon Bos, Delf Blue and Fondante). The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) of two factors in three replicates. Media mostly affected the parameters studied during the experiment. Early emergence (22.53 days) and flowering (73.13 days) was recorded in medium consisting of loam and sheep manure, while maximum plant height (19.75 cm), leaves number (6.13), leaf area (31.47 cm2) were recorded in clay medium. Maximum number of florets plant-l (31.93) and spike length (7.95 cm) were recorded in medium consist of clay and sheep manure. Maximum length of spike stem (9.61 cm) and total chlorophyll percentage (53.45%) were recorded for loam medium. Among the cultivars, some parameters showed significant variation. Early emergence (20.42 days), maximum plant height (20.35 cm), leaf area per plant (33.01 cm2) and length of spike stem (15.10 cm) were given by cv. Fondante. Maximum number of florets plantl (35.58) and spike lengths (8.63 cm) were recorded by cv. Blue Giant. High percentage of total chlorophyll (58.15%) was recorded in cv. Jon Bos..展开更多
