A Single-Buffered (SB) router is a router where only one stage of shared buffering is sandwiched between two interconnects in comparison of a Combined Input and Output Queued (CIOQ) router where a central switch fabric is sandwiched between two stages of buffering. The notion of SB routers was firstly proposed by the High-Performance Networking Group (HPNG) of Stanford University, along with two promising designs of SB routers: one of which was Parallel Shared Memory (PSM) router and the other was Distributed Shared Memory (DSM) router. Admittedly, the work of HPNG deserved full credit, but all results presented by them appeared to relay on a Centralized Memory Management Algorithm (CMMA) which was essentially impractical because of the high processing and communication complexity. This paper attempts to make a scalable high-speed SB router completely practical by introducing a fully distributed architecture for managing the shared memory of SB routers. The resulting SB router is called as a Virtual Output and Input Queued (VOIQ) router. Furthermore, the scheme of VOIQ routers can not only eliminate the need for the CMMA scheduler, thus allowing a fully distributed implementation with low processing and commu- nication complexity, but also provide QoS guarantees and efficiently support variable-length packets in this paper. In particular, the results of performance testing and the hardware implementation of our VOIQ-based router (NDSC~ SR1880-TTM series) are illustrated at the end of this paper. The impact of starvation and anhydrobiosis on the number and size of the storage cells in the tardigrade species Milnesium tardigradum, Paramacrobiotus tonollii and Macrobiotus sapiens was investigated to gain more insight on the energetic side of anhydrobiosis. Storage cells are free floating cells within the body cavity of tardigrades and are presumed to store and release energy in form of glycogen, protein and fat to maintain a constant nutrient regime for the other tissues. The body size of the animals was not correlated with the size of the storage cells, however, M. tardigradum the largest species analysed also had the largest storage cells. A reduction in the size of the storage cells is apparent in all three species after seven days of starvation. A seven-day period of anhydrobiosis leads to a decrease in cell size in M. tardigradum but not in P. tonollii and M. sapiens. Although M. sapiens was raised on green algae, and M. tardigradum and P. tonollii were fed with rotifers and nematodes this difference in nourishment was not reflected in the response of the storage cells to anhydrobiosis 展开更多

SS-SERA:An improved framework for architectural level soft error reliability analysis 被引量:2

Integrated with an improved architectural vulnerability factor (AVF) computing model, a new architectural level soft error reliability analysis framework, SS-SERA (soft error reliability analysis based on SimpleScalar), was developed. SS-SERA was used to estimate the AVFs for various on-chip structures accurately. Experimental results show that the AVFs of issue queue (IQ), register update units (RUU), load store queue (LSQ) and functional unit (FU) are 38.11%, 22.17%, 23.05% and 24.43%, respectively. For address-based structures, i.e., levell data cache (LID), DTLB, level2 unified cache (L2U), levell instruction cache (LII) and ITLB, AVFs of their data arrays are 22.86%, 27.57%, 14.80%, 8.25% and 12.58%, lower than their tag arrays' AVFs which are 30.01%, 28.89%, 17.69%, 10.26% and 13.84%, respectively. Furthermore, using the AVF values obtained with SS-SERA, a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the AVF variation and predictability was performed for the structures studied. Experimental results show that the AVF exhibits significant variations across different structures and workloads, and is influenced by multiple microarchitectural metrics and their interactions. Besides, AVFs of SPEC2K floating point programs exhibit better predictability than SPEC2K integer programs. 展开更多

Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic relapsing and remitting autoinflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract that has many intestinal and extraintestinal complications. The purpose of treatment is long-term remission, reduction of complications, and improvement of patients' quality of life. In many cases, this can be quite challenging and it is necessary to have a well thought out management strategy. We present the case of a 38-year-old woman with fistulizing CD that manifested as diffuse abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea accompanied by arthralgia. In addition, there were ulcerative lesions surrounded by cutaneous inflammation and erythema on her extremities, indicative of pyoderma gangrenosum. The patient was treated with high doses of parenteral methylprednisolone without any improvement and was started on adalimumab. A positive response to adalimumab therapy was observed: after 2 mo of therapy, the ulcerative skin lesion healed completely and the enterogastric fistula was closed affcer 5 mo adalimumab treatment. Adalimumab might be a suitable initial as well as maintenance therapy in patients with complicated CD. 展开更多

The glycosylphosphatidyl inositol(GPI)-anchored proteins are localized on the outer of the plasma membrane and clustered in membrane microdomain known as lipid rafts. Among them, mammalian alkaline phosphatase(AP) is an enzyme widely distributed. So, it has important biological significance to study the combination of AP with lipid monolayer. In our work, the interaction between AP and sphingomyelin has been studied at the air-buffer interface as a biomimetic membrane system by the Langmuir film technique and atomic force microscopy. The surface pressure-area isotherm for the mixed alkaline phosphatase/sphingomyelin monolayer shown the presence of a transition from a liquid-expanded phase to the liquid-expanded/liquidcondensed coexist phase. And the surface compressional modulus suggested the mixed alkaline phosphatase/sphingomyelin monolayer has larger compressibility compared with the pure sphingomyelin monolayer. Besides, according to the micrographs, we inferred when combined with lipid monolayer at the air-buffer interface, the AP molecules formed polymer not multilayer or micelle. And, according to the limiting molecules area of AP, we inferred that 12 AP molecules formed a hexagon polymer unit. 展开更多

This paper presents an embedded SRAM design for write buffer applications in flash memories.The write buffer is implemented with a newly proposed self-adaptive timing control circuit,an area-saving sense-latch circuit and 6 T SRAM cell units.A 2 kb SRAM macro with the area of 135μm×180μm is implemented in and applied to a 128 Mb NOR flash memory with the SMIC 65 nm NOR flash memory process.Both simulation and chip test results show that the SRAM write buffer is beneficial to high-density flash memory design. 展开更多
