Three varieties of macro algae have been most successfully cultivated, i.e., Eucheuma cottony, Eucheuma spinosum and Gracilaria verucosa. The global financial crisis has reduced the worldwide demand for carrageenan by 20-30%. Demand continues to be slow and there is little evidence so far that this situation will change in the short term. There are signs, however, that demand might start to pick up on the 1st quarter of next year but is not expected to meet the same level as experienced during 2008. Based on survey data, the is about 1.2 million ha which centered around 15 provinces. In potential area of Indonesian coastal water for seaweed cultivation these areas, the production of Eucheuma cottonii (Kappaphycus alvarezii (Doty)) and Eucheuma spinosum (Eucheuma denticulatum (N. L. Burman) F. S. Collins & Hervey) has amounted to around 42% of the supply. These natural resources provide excellent prospects for future development of the seaweed business in Indonesia.展开更多

This research used ordinary least square regression to analyze the impact of office channeling policy on the growth of Indonesian Islamic banking industry. The variable used in this paper is office channeling which is used as a dummy variable, and margin deposit and non-performing financing (NPF) are also used as control variables. The indicators of the growth of Indonesian Islamic banking industry are asset and third-party funds. The result shows that office channeling does not have an impact on the growth of Islamic banking industry which is measured by asset growth and third-party funds growth. According to this result, Bank Indonesia should have an innovative policy to stimulate the Islamic banking industry growth in Indonesia.展开更多

The Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia provides a guarantee of religious freedom for every citizen under Article 28 E of the 1945 Constitution. The Constitutional Court, which is required to protect, maintain, and ensure religious freedom for religious minorities, is deemed to fail guarding the right of religious minorities, because in addition to providing a restrictive ruling on a judicial review of the rule of law which is contrary to the basic law, it also fails to interpret legal products under the laws as part of the constitution. The Constitutional Court dysfunction as a guardian of the constitutional rights of religious minorities occurs because of the vacuum of law (recht vacuum), a narrow interpretation of the constitution by the constitutional judges. The urgency that needs to be addressed is to provide the Constitutional Court with a more extensive authority, which is not limited only to review legal products under laws, but also includes production of Law on Freedom of Religion and Belief for protection in the application of Article 28 E of the 1945 Constitution.展开更多

Language anxiety is the anxiety that arises when a person learns foreign language. Foreign Language Anxiety (anxiety to learn a foreign language) is of concern or negative emotional reactions that arise when studying or using foreign language. Self-regulated learning is an active and constructive process undertaken by learners in setting goals for their learning and trying to monitor, regulate, and control of cognition, motivation, and behavior, then everything is directed and driven by purpose and adapted to the context and environment. The research method used is an R and D (research and development) method with a sample of foreign speakers of Chinese. Variables that receive interference are the ability to speak in Indonesian, while the variables used to interfere with the self-regulated learning and language anxiety as a variable controller. Intrapersonal factors become barriers that cause stuttering speech limited due to the mastering subject content. On the basis of that, this speaking model applies the principle of self-regulated learning in the learning process, using a communicative and contextual approach. This model intended for foreign speakers who learn Indonesian language outside of Indonesia, so to bring the atmosphere mandated in sociolinguistic built through media and relevant teaching methods.展开更多

In addition, it examines the factors that can significantly influence students' motivation to study accounting subjects. Needless to say, the expansion of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) depends on the quality of education in higher academic institutions. For several academic institutions, it is clear that the topic of students' motivation is still a meaningful concern, because the improvement of students' motivation and ability would enhance these institutions' academic performance in a competitive environment. In this study, the authors developed the theoretical model for students' motivation to study accounting subjects. This research showed that self-efficacy, accounting self-concept, mastery goals' perception, performance goals' perception, and social goals' perception had a significant influence on students' motivation to study accounting subjects. Furthermore, nationality had an impact on students' motivation. Japanese students are more motivated to study accounting subjects than Indonesian students. Another result clarified that goals' perception influences the relationship among self-efficacy, accounting self-concept, and students' motivation.展开更多

The maps of mean and modal of magnitude and distance presented here are intended to convey information about the distribution ofprobabilistic seismic sources and to provide prescriptions or suggestions for seismic sources to use in developing artificial ground motion in building design or retrofit projects. This paper presents deaggregation of Indonesia Seismic Hazard Map 2010 for Sumatra. Deaggregation for 0.2-s and 1.0-s pseudo SA (spectral acceleration) is performed for 10% PE (probability of exceedance) in 50 years (475-year mean return period) and 2% PE in 50 years (2,475-year mean return period). The information of deaggregation analysis can and perhaps should be considered in a complex seismic-resistant design decision-making environment.展开更多

Because of its geopolitical location these borders are very porous and, as a consequence, are highly difficult to monitor and control, making it vulnerable spots for illegal activities such as arms smuggling. This paper aims to examine the challenges faced by Indonesia and Malaysia in dealing with the main security border issues. The paper then concludes that Malaysia has become the main route for small arms illicit trafficking from other Southeast Asian countries to Indonesia's conflict areas. Indonesia and Malaysia face an enormous challenge, particularly in view of the recent happenings in conflict zones and the increasingly need to secure their common borders.展开更多

Education and Job Training is carried out for individuals who require knowledge, work skills, life skills, and the correct attitudes for self-development, professional development, work, independent business and continued education. In the Indonesian construction industry, the Quantity Surveyor is a common role in planning and controlling consultant firms. These firms are organized as members of National Association of Indonesian Consultants. Many firms employ architects and technical staff as Quantity Surveyors, even if they only have experience in project calculations. This has given rise to the problem of inaccurate cost projections in the construction industry. Therefore, the future of Quantity Surveyors in Indonesia hinges on the implementation of education and short courses as means of raising the skill level of the profession. These steps will help to bridge the knowledge gap between local and foreign consultants.展开更多
