The electrical conductivity measurement and microstructural observation were conducted at different distances from the quenched end. The results indicate that the average cooling rates decrease with increasing the distance from the quenched end of the bar in the quench sensitive temperature range. However, the electrical conductivity increases with the increase of distance from the quenched end. The surface parts of the plate were fully recrystallized, while partial recrystallization took place at the quarter and center parts of the plate. The quench induced grain boundary precipitates became remarkably coarser and discontinuously distributed with increasing distance from the quenched end of the bar. Plenty of heterogeneous precipitates were observed to nucleate on A13Zr dispersoids when the distance from the quenched end was greater than 38mm.展开更多

The thermal and stress analyses of SiCn/Al brake disk during emergency braking at a speed of 300 km/h considering airflow cooling were investigated using finite element (FE) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. All three modes of heat transfer (conduction, convection and radiation) were analyzed along with the design features of the brake assembly and their interfaces. The results suggested that the higher convection coefficients achieved with airflow cooling will not only reduce the maximum temperature in the braking but also reduce the thermal gradients, since heat will be removed faster from hotter parts of the disk. Airflow cooling should be effective to reduce the risk of hot spot formation and disc thermal distortion. The highest temperature after emergency braking was 461 °C and 359 °C without and with considering airflow cooling, respectively. The equivalent stress could reach 269 MPa and 164 MPa without and with considering airflow cooling, respectively. However, the maximum surface stress may exceed the material yield strength during an emergency braking, which may cause a plastic damage accumulation in a brake disk without cooling. The simulation results are consistent with the experimental results well.展开更多

The experimental results show that the secondary dendrite arm spacing (SDAS) of primaryα(Al), the size of eutectic Si and the volume fraction of Al?Si eutectic are reduced with increasing the cooling rate. Eutectic Si, subjected to solution treatment at 540 °C for 1 h followed by water quenching to room temperature, is completely spheroidized at cooling rate of 2.6 K/s; is partially spheroidized atcooling rate of 0.6 K/s; and is only edge-rounded at cooling rates of 0.22 and 0.12 K /s. Whilst the microhardness is also the maximum at cooling rate of 2.6 K/s. The experimental results show that fine equiaxed grains are acquired under the action of low voltage pulsed magnetic field. The refinement effect of the pulsed magnetic field is affected by the melt cooling rate and superheating. The decrease of cooling rate and superheating enhance the refinement effect of the low voltage pulsed magnetic field. The magnetic force and the melt flow during solidification are modeled and simulated to reveal the grain refinement mechanism. It is considered that the melt convection caused by the pulsed magnetic field, as well as cooling rate and superheating contributes to the refinement of solidified grains.展开更多

AZ91 melts were subjected to ultrasonic vibration in different temperature ranges under different cooling rates. The results show that fine and spherical α-Mg particles are obtained under ultrasonic vibration at the nucleation stage, which is mainly attributed to the cavitation and acoustic streaming induced by the ultrasonic vibration. The reduction of lower limit of ultrasonic vibration temperature between the liquidus and solidus increases the solid volume fraction and average particle size. Increasing cooling rate increases the solid volume fraction and reduces the average shape factor of particles. The appropriate temperature range for ultrasonic vibration is from 605 °C to 595 °C or 590 °C, and the suitable cooling rate is 2-3 °C/min.展开更多

Microstructural analysis reveals that the alloy with a diameter of 1.5 mm is almost completely composed of amorphous phase. However, with the cooling rate decline, a little α-Mg and MgZn dendrites can be found in the amorphous matrix. Based on the microstructural and tensile results, the ductile dendrites are conceived to be highly responsible for the enhanced compressive strain from 1.3% to 3.1% by increasing the sample diameter from 1.5 mm to 3 mm. In addition, the Mg69Zn27Ca4 alloy with 1.5 mm diameter has the best corrosion properties. The current Mg-based alloys show much better corrosion resistance than the traditionally commercial wrought magnesium alloy ZK60 in simulated sea-water.展开更多

The results show that the mechanical properties and microstructures using chromite sand are the best. As the cooling speed increases, the dendrite arm spacing (DAS) decreases significantly and the mechanical properties are improved, and the elongation is more sensitive to the cooling speed as compared with the tensile strength. The increase of the properties is primarily attributed to the decrease of the DAS and the increase of the free strontium atoms in the matrix. In particular, the regression models for predicting both the tensile strength and the elongation for Sr-modified A356 aluminum casting alloy were established based on the experimental data.展开更多

In the present work, an attempt of LSM on magnesium alloy with liquid nitrogen-assisted cooling(LNSC) was carried out to get the higher cooling rate and improve the surface properties. The experimental results were compared with those of Ar gas protection at room temperature. The samples after LSM with LNSC resulted in a thinner melted layer, a highly homogeneous, refined melted microstructure and formed a lot of worm-like nanocrystals and local amorphous structures. Microhardness of the melted layer with LNAC was improved to HV 90-148 as compared to HV 65-105 of the samples with Ar gas protection. The corrosion resistance of the melted layer in a 3.5% Na Cl solution(mass fraction) was improved because of the grain refinement and redistribution of β-Mg17Al12 phases following rapid quenching associated with the process.展开更多

With the increase in cooling rate, the nucleation temperature (Tα,N) increases from 634.8 °C to 636.3 °C, the minimum temperature (Tα,Min) decreases from 631.9 °C to 630.7 °C, the nucleation undercooling (ΔTN) increases from 2.9 °C to 5.6 °C, the beginning temperature of the eutectic reaction (Teut,N) increases, the time of the eutectic reaction shortens, solidus temperature decreases from 546.0 °C to 541.4 °C, and solidification temperature range (ΔTS) increases by 6.1 °C. The increased nucleation rate (N&) is supposed to be the main reason for the increased?TN. 文摘The grain refinement of superalloy IN718 under the action of low voltage pulsed magnetic field was investigated. It is considered that the melt convection caused by the pulsed magnetic field, as well as cooling rate and superheating contributes to the refinement of solidified grains.

文摘The effects of cooling conditions on the microstructure of semi-solid AZ91 slurry produced via ultrasonic vibration process were investigated. The appropriate temperature range for ultrasonic vibration is from 605 °C to 595 °C or 590 °C, and the suitable cooling rate is 2-3 °C/min.

文摘Mg69Zn27Ca4 alloys with diameters of 1.5, 2 and 3 mm were fabricated using copper mold injection casting method. The current Mg-based alloys show much better corrosion resistance than the traditionally commercial wrought magnesium alloy ZK60 in simulated sea-water.

文摘The effects of different cooling conditions on the mechanical properties and microstructures of a Sr-modified A356 (Al-7Si-0.3Mg) aluminum casting alloy were comparatively investigated using three moulding sands including quartz, alumina and chromite into multi-step blocks. In particular, the regression models for predicting both the tensile strength and the elongation for Sr-modified A356 aluminum casting alloy were established based on the experimental data.

文摘Laser surface melting(LSM) is a high-energy surface treatment that allows modification of the microstructure and surface properties of Mg alloys. The corrosion resistance of the melted layer in a 3.5% Na Cl solution(mass fraction) was improved because of the grain refinement and redistribution of β-Mg17Al12 phases following rapid quenching associated with the process.

文摘To better understand and know the roles of cooling/lubrication medium in the cutting process and expand their applicability, uncoated cemented carbide tools are used in high-speed turning Ti6Al4V.Dry,cold air, minimal quantity lubrication(MQL),cryogenic MQL,and ionized air as the cooling/lubrication conditions are studied.Experimental results show that at speed 120 m/min turning Ti6Al4V,the cutting force under ionized air is smallest under all lubricant conditions, and tool life is best, next is cryogenic MQL.MQL and cold air almost have the same effect,a little better than dry.Meanwhile the smallest surface roughness is also obtained under ionized air condition.Flank wear and crater wear are the dominant failure modes when high-speed turning Ti6Al4V by SEM analysis. Finally the conclusion is drawn that ionized air and cryogenic MQL have better cooling/lubrication effects and can effectively improve the tool life.

文摘The effect of the cooling rate ranging from 1.4 °C/s to 3.5 °C/s on the solidification behavior of the sand-cast Mg?10Gd?3Y?0.4Zr alloy was studied by computer aided cooling curve analysis (CA-CCA). Increased value (Teut,N?Teut,G) and shortened time of the eutectic reaction cause the change in the volume fraction and morphology of the second phase.

文摘A solution cooling absorption(SCA)approach is proposed to modify the aqueous ammonia absorption refrigerat-ion cycle using the strong solution from the absorber to cool the forepart of the absorption in the cycle for reclaiming some portion of absorption heat.As a consequence of raised temperature at the inlet, the strong solution partially boils at the outlet of the solution heat exchanger, and diminishes the thermal heat consumption of the heat source. The calculation results show that the coefficient of performance(COP)of this modified cycle is about 28.3% higher than that of the traditional cycle under typical conditions;while the required heat transfer area of the total heat exchangers of the cycle is somewhat less than that of the traditional one.The capacity of refrigeration with the new absorption cycle is more than doubled in contrast to the adsorption scheme with an identical configuration. It is sufficient to supply a fishing boat the chilling capacity for preservation of fishing products with the modified cycle chiller driven by its diesel engine exhaust.
