A new method for the control of the speed of an ultrasonic motor and its implementation are proposed. The method is merely used by detecting the time when motor′s monitor signal reaches a non zero reference value than a zero one, the direction, in which the driving frequency of the motor should be shifted, can be promptly calculated. With the aid of a CPU and the phase locked frequency doubling technique, the motor can be steadily driven in a wide range of frequency and the optimum frequency can be captured rapidly and precisely. The carbonization of magnesium oxide particles by CO2 was investigated using a stirring mill reactor. The effects of the system temperature, stirring rotation speed, influx rate of CO2 and initial diameter of the magnesium oxide particles on the carbonization process were determined, The results show that the system temperature and the stirring rotation speed are the most significant influencing factors on the carbonization rate. The determi-nation of critical decomposition temperature (CDT) gives the maximum carbonization rate with other conditions fixed. A theoretical model involving mass transfer and reaction kinetics was presented for the carbonization process. The apparent activation energy was calculated to be 32.8kJ·mol-1. The carbonization process is co-controlled by diffusive mass transfer and chemical reaction. The model fits well with the experimental results. 展开更多

In the range of average inlet velocity of 25.0 m/s to 55.0 m/s of diffusion tank, numerical simulations of diffusion tank were done. The results of numerical simulations of diffusion tank are shown as follows: ③ In cases of the inlet velocity range from 25.0 m/s to 55.0 m/s, and the angle range of rectifying airflow unit from 2.5° to 7.5°, the average value of pressure losses decreases to the minimum when the angle is 4.5°.② In cases of the inlet velocity of 35.0 m/s, the pressure loss of diffusion tank decreases to the minimum when the angle of rectifying airflow unit is 5.5°. ③ As far as there are different angles of rectifying airflow unit, pressure loss increases gradually along with the addition of inlet velocity. 展开更多

China’s first high-pressure hydraulically coupled rock-breaking tunnel boring machine(TBM) was designed to overcome the rock breaking problems of TBM in super-hard rock geology, where high-pressure water jet system is configured, including high-flow pump sets, high-pressure rotary joint and high-pressure water jet injection device. In order to investigate the rock breaking performance of high-pressure water-jet-assisted TBM, in situ excavation tests were carried out at the Wan’anxi Water Diversion Project in Longyan, Fujian Province, China, under different water jet pressure and rotational speed. The rock-breaking performance of TBM was analyzed including penetration, cutterhead load, advance rate and field penetration index. The test results show that the adoption of high-pressure water-jet-assisted rock breaking technology can improve the boreability of rock mass, where the TBM penetration increases by 64% under the water jet pressure of 270 MPa. In addition, with the increase of the water jet pressure, the TBM penetration increases and the field penetration index decreases. The auxiliary rock-breaking effect of high-pressure water jet decreases with the increase of cutterhead rotational speed. In the case of the in situ tunneling test parameters of this study, the advance rate is the maximum when the pressure of the high-pressure water jet is 270 MPa and the cutterhead rotational speed is 6 r/min. The technical superiority of high-pressure water-jet-assisted rock breaking technology is highlighted and it provides guidance for the excavation parameter selection of high-pressure hydraulically coupled rock-breaking TBM. 展开更多

Pressure Variation in the Fluid inside a Tesla Turbine

The recent technological developments being applied to Tesla like turbines for converting fluid energy into mechanical (axis) energy often lead to non-frequently used models. Given a disk shaped machine rotating around its own symmetry axis, part of the machine energy is transferred to the fluid itself, pushing it to the disk periphery. This way the farther the exhaust orifice is from the disk outside contour, the larger will be the pressure loss experienced by the system. This work studies the overall energy balance and momentum exchange between fluid and machine. Simple calculation shows that for total pressure gradients above two bar the machines become inefficient for having tangential velocity whose intensity is 50% higher than the intensity of the jet velocity prior to the interaction. For values of the pressure gradient above 5.7 bar, the machine peripheral velocity is equal to the incident jet velocity. In this case it is not possible to deliver power under permanent regime. Finally it is shown that when the feeding pressure of an impulse turbine is enough for more than one stage, then one should use this option to obtain thermal efficiencies similar to those of reaction machines. The jet of fluid to move a Tesla like turbine should enter the unit as close as possible to the direction tangential to the movement, (i.e., normal to the radius at the considered position). This fluid should leave the machine right after interacting with it. Any permanence of the fluid after transferring its momentum to the machine can be extremely prejudicial to the system behavior. 展开更多

The signals are collected from both rotating and reciprocating machineries by the accelerometers and a data acquisition (DAQ) system. Four optimal sparse representation methods for compression have been considered including the method of frames ( MOF), best orthogonal basis ( BOB), matching pursuit (MP) and basis pursuit (BP). Furthermore, several indicators including compression ratio (CR), mean square error (MSE), energy retained (ER) and Kurtosis are taken to evaluate the performance of the above methods. The compressors, but surprisingly little related information is available in the open literature. A centrifugal compressor with high inlet flow coefficient of 0.2, presenting a narrow operating range and unstable running situation even at design speed during the test, is investigated here. To reveal flow details in this centrifugal compressor, numerical simulations have been carried out and indicate that excessive impeller flow diffusion results in the poor performance of this centrifugal compressor. With the same inlet flow coefficient, six redesign cases coming from an in-house one-dimensional analysis program are proposed together with impeller trimming and equal flow area design method for corresponding vaneless diffuser. Performance comparison among these redesign centrifugal compressors is presented and the most suitable one is recommended for test in the future. In addition, three redesign cases with lower inlet flow coefficient developed by means of flow trimming are shown in the end to satisfy potential application areas. Finally, the results in this study can provide valuable reference information for multistage centrifugal compressor design. 展开更多

The frequency characteristics of the fluctuating pressure and velocity in a cross flow fan are analyzed by means of spectral analysis and wavelet transform. The fluctuating pressures obtained by large eddy simulation on the casing wall are compared with that of experiments and show good agreement. From the spectral analysis of sound source, it is found that the pressure fluctuating peak is correspond with the sound pressure in the far field. 展开更多

Previously the features of circumferential propagation of self-induced tip leakage flow unsteadiness for a low speed isolated axial compressor rotor in the authors' laboratory were discovered and investigated via numerical simulation,which only occurs below a critical stable flow point that is close to but not yet at the stall limit.Further in this paper,the detailed investigation on evolution of tip leakage flow during the throttling process into spike rotating stall was conducted by adopting the valve-throttling model.During this process,the development of the circumferential propagation of tip leakage flow unsteadiness was especially focused on.According to the unsteady characteristics of pressure signals,the evolvement of compressor flow field can be classified into four stages.As compressor throttled,the oscillation frequency of self-induced unsteady tip leakage flow decreased gradually,and thus resulted in the decrease of its circumferential propagation speed.The circumferential propagation of self-induced tip leakage flow unsteadiness is closely related with rotating instability.When the forward spillage of tip leakage flow at the leading edge occurred,the spike type rotating stall was initiated.Its flow struc-tures were given in the paper. 展开更多

The paper investigates the effect of a single circumferential groove casing treatment(CGCT) on a transonic compressor rotor numerically.In particular,the effect of the groove at different axial locations on the flow field is studied in detail and stall margin improvement is also discussed.The present results show that the groove close to the leading edge plays a crucial role in stabilizing the near stall flow structures and,hence,improves the stall margin.The groove at the mid-chord-section of the blade can help exchange and transfer momentums between different directions,and suppress the flow unsteadiness,leading to increased efficiency in rotor performance and extended operation range.The groove located near the blade trailing edge has limited effects on stall margin improvement and may cause additional penalty in efficiency.Through comparison with the recent work on CGCT,some common flow physics can be observed. 展开更多

An experimental investigation on the unsteady tip flow field of a transonic compressor rotor has been performed.The casing-mounted high frequency response pressure transducers were arranged along both the blade chord and the blade pitch.The chord-wise ones were used to indicate both the ensemble averaged and time varying flow structure of the tip region of the rotor at different operating points under 95% design speed and 60% design speed.The pitch-wise circumferential transducers were mainly used to analyze the unsteadiness frequency of the tip leakage flow in the rotor frame at the near stall condition.The contours of casing wall pressure show that there were two clear low pressure regions in blade passages,one along the chord direction,caused by the leakage flow and the other along the tangential direction,maybe caused by the forward swept leading edge.Both low pressure regions were originated from the leading edge and formed a scissor-like flow pattern.At 95% design speed condition,the shock wave interacted with the low pressure region and made the flow field unsteady.With the mass flow reduced,the two low pressure regions gradually contracted to the leading edge and then a spike disturbance emerged. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effects of probe support on the stall characteristics of micro compressors, an experiment was carried out on a large-scale low-speed research compressor according to the principle of geometric similarity. A cylindrical probe support intruding to 50% blade span was mounted at 50% chord upstream from the rotor blade leading edge. The static pressure rise characteristic of the compressor is measured, with and without the probe support respectively. The dynamic compressor behavior from pre-stall to full stall was also measured. The results indicate that the stability margin of the compressor is lowered after installing the probe support. The stall inception is aroused by modal wave disturbances. The disturbances developed into two stall cells smoothly before installing the probe support, while the disturbances first developed into a single stall cell then splitting into two stall cells after installing the probe support. The presence of probe support lowers the initial intensity of the rotating stall of the compressor, while it doesn't alter the intensity of the rotation stall after the compressor enters into full stall. 展开更多

This research investigates the use of single dielectric barrier discharge(SDBD) actuators for energizing the tip leakage flow to suppress rotating stall inception and extend the stable operating range of a low speed axial compressor with a single rotor.The jet induced by the plasma actuator adds momentum to the flow in the tip region and has a significant impact on the tip-gap flow.Experiments are carried out on a low speed axial compressor with a single rotor.The static pressure is measured at both the rotor inlet and outlet.The flow coefficient and pressure rise coefficient are calculated.Then the characteristic line is acquired to show the overall performance of the compressor.With unsteady plasma actuation of 18kV and 60W the compressor stability range improvement is realized at rotor speed of 1500 r/min – 2400 r/min. 展开更多
