Theoretical study of the effect of topographic height and width on generation of internal tides 被引量:1

Internal tides generated upon two-dimensional Gaussian topographies of different sizes and steepness are investigated theoretically in a numerical methodology.Compared with previous theoretical works,this model is not restricted by weak topography,but provides an opportunity to examine the influence of topography.Ten typical cases are studied using different values of height and/or width of topography.By analyzing the baroclinic velocity fields,as well as their first eight baroclinic modes,it is found that the magnitude of baroclinic velocity increases and the vertical structure becomes increasingly complex as height increases or width decreases.However,when both height and width vary,while parameter s(the ratio of the topographic slope to the characteristic slope of the internal wave ray) remains invariant,the final pattern is influenced primarily by width.The conversion rate is studied and the results indicate that width determines where the conversion rate reaches a peak,and where it is positive or negative,whereas height affects only the magnitude.High and narrow topography is considerably more beneficial to converting energy from barotropic to baroclinic fields than low and wide topography.Furthermore,parameter s,which is an important non-dimensional parameter for internal tide generation,is not the sole parameter by which the baroclinic velocity fields and conversion rate are determined. 展开更多

It can obtain time and frequency localization with computational complexity greatly reduced. This algorithm was applied to lightning waveforms (include chopped waveforms) parameter calculation. It simplifies the computation and the results pretreated by this algorithm are in accord with IEC1083-2 completely. It was applied in embed system successfully. Its capability in frequency restraining was researched. The validity of the algorithm was proved in theory when processing lightning waves. The purposes of this work were to obtain the accurate elastic modulus of the nanocrystalline WC-Co cemented carbides, and to propose the mechanism for the difference of elastic modulus between the nanocrystalline and conventional polycrystalline cemented carbides. The nanocrystalline cemented carbide was prepared by spark plasma sintering(SPS) technique. The conventional polycrystalline cemented carbides were prepared by SPS and sinter-HIP techniques as references, respectively. The sintered cemented carbides were characterized by X-ray diffractometry, scanning electron microscopy and the transmission electron microscopy with precession electron diffraction technology. The elastic modulus was obtained by averaging the values measured with the continuous stiffness measurement method of the nanoindentation technology. The results show that the nanocrystalline cemented carbide has a relatively low modulus, which could be attributed to the more interface area and higher fraction ratio of the hcp cobalt phase caused by the rapid heating and cooling process during SPS. 展开更多

A micro sensor chip of High-field Asymmetric Waveform Ion Mobility Spectrometry(FAIMS) was designed and fabricated by inductively coupled plasma(ICP) etching on the both sides of silicon and double silicon-glass bonding,with dimensions of 18.8 mm×12.4 mm×1.2mm.The sample ions were created at ambient pressure by VUV lamp ion source,which was equipped with a 10.6 eV photo discharge lamp(λ=116.5 nm).The 2-pentanone was adopted to illustrate the influences of high-field rectangular asymmetric waveform voltage amplitude,frequency and carrier gas flow rate on the performance of FAIMS sensor chip.The experiment results showed that with the frequency or carrier gas flow rate increasing,or voltage amplitude decreasing,the FAIMS sensitivity increases,and that the resolution decreases with the increasing of the frequency or flow rate.The FAIMS simulation results based on the SIMION software was in agreement with the experimental results.The FAIMS detection sensitivity experiment showed that the FAIMS sensor chip can detect positive and negative ions simultaneously,and has detection sensitivity as low as 0.1 ppm for acetic acid. 展开更多

The classical Hashin-Shtrikman variational principle was re-generalized to the heterogeneous piezoelectric materials.The auxiliary problem is very much simplified by selecting the reference medium as a linearly isotropic elastic medium.The electromechanical fields in the inhomogeneous piezoelectrics are simulated by introducing into the homogeneous reference medium certain eigenstresses and eigen electric fields.A closed-form solution can be obtained for the disturbance fields,which is convenient for the manipulation of the energy functional.As an application,a two-phase piezoelectric composite with nonpiezoelectric matrix is considered.Expressions of upper and lower bounds for the overall electromechanical moduli of the composite can be developed.These bounds are shown better than the Voigt-Reuss type ones. 展开更多

Structural, electronic properties and mechanical anisotropy of Amm2-carbon are investigated utilizing tlrst-principles calculations by Oambridge Serial Total Energy Package (CASTEP) code. The work is performed with the generalized gradient approximation in the form of Perdew Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE), PBEsol, Wu and Cohen (WC) and local density approximation in the form of Ceperley and Alder data as parameterized by Perdew and Zunger (CA-PZ). The mechanical anisotropy eMculations show that Amm2-carbon exhibit large anisotropy in elastic moduli, such as Poisson's ratio, shear modulus and Young's modulus, and other anisotropy factors, such as the shear anisotropic factor and the universal anisotropic index AU. It is interestingly that the anisotropy in shear modulus and Young's modulus, universal anisotropic index and the shear anisotropie factor all increases with increasing pressure, but the anisotropy in Poisson's ratio decreases. The band structure calculations reveal that Amm2-carbon is a direct-band-gap semiconductor at ambient pressure, but with the pressure increasing, it becomes an indirect-band-gap semiconductor. 展开更多

Based on effective field method,the dynamic effective elastic modulus of polymer matrix composites embedded with dense piezoelectric nano-fibers is obtained,and the interacting effect of piezoelectric surfaces/interfaces around the nano-fibers is considered.The multiple scattering effects of harmonic anti-plane shear waves between the piezoelectric nano-fibers with surface/interface are averaged by effective field method.To analyze the interacting results among the random nano-fibers,the problem of two typical piezoelectric nano-fibers is introduced by employing the addition theorem of Bessel functions.Through numerical calculations,the influence of the distance between the randomly distributed piezoelectric nano-fibers under different surface/interface parameters is analyzed.The effect of piezoelectric property of surface/interface on the effective shear modulus under different volume fractions is also examined.Comparison with the simplified cases is given to validate this dynamic electro-elastic model. 展开更多

Elastic, Piezoelectric and Acoustic Properties of Wurtzite MnO from Density Functional Calculation

The wurtzite MnO has been obtained lately and is expected to have large potentiai in varies applications. Since elastic properties are the bases of various applications, we calculate these properties of wurtzite MnO based on the density-functionai theory and compare it with other two phases of MnO (rocksalt and zinc-blende MnO). The Young's modulus of wurtzite and zinc-blende MnO are 65.6 GPa and 73.4 GPa, respectively, which are much lower than those of rocksaJt MnO (177.6 GPa). More importantly, both the Poisson ratio and the bulk modulus to shear modulus ratio indicate that wurtzite MnO should have much better ductile properties than rocksalt MnO. The calculated piezoelectric constants of wurtzite MnO are comparable to those of ZnO, This suggests wurtzite MnO is a good piezoelectric material. Furthermore, the slowness surfaces of acoustic waves of them are given from Christoffel equation. 展开更多
