The modal birefringence, dispersion and confinement loss of the fundamental mode are simulated by full vector Galerkin finite element method(FEM) with a perfectly matched layer(PML). The results show that this PCF can keep low confinement loss when the rings of air holes are few. When the wavelength is 1.55 μm , the birefringence, the confinement loss of quick-axis and slow-axis are 1.365×10-3, 0.017 dB/m and 0.051 dB/m, respectively. A new way is proposed to fabricate polarization-mainting fibers with high performance.展开更多

The special characteristics of the sensors were achieved by use of the special low birefringence fiber as the Faraday-effect sensing element and were also achieved with creation of sensing schemes which matched with the features of the fiber. Making use of the excellent features of the sensing technique, various current monitoring devices and systems were developed and applied practically for the control and maintenance in the electric power facility. In this paper, the design and performance of the sensing devices are introduced first. After that, examples of the application systems practically applied are also introduced, including fault section/point location systems for power transmission cable lines.展开更多

In this paper, we will investigate the bright and dark soliton solutions of(2+1)-dimensional coupled higher-order nonlinear Schrodinger equations, with the aid of symbolic computation and the Hirota method. On the basis of soliton solutions, we test and discuss the interactions graphically between the solitons in the x-z, x-t, and z-t planes.展开更多

The sampled grating has two sets of reflection spectra along two perpendicular polarization directions. The grating's channel number can be doubled approximately by designing the refractive index difference between the fast and slow axes of the fiber, which enhances the utilization ratio and reduces the claim for photosensitivity of the fiber. The group delay characteristics are theoretically studied and side-lobes are depressed by apodization as well to get the optimized spectra. The results show that the comb-like spectra of the grating have promising applications in both multi-wavelength polarized fiber lasers and fiber sensing networks.展开更多

The proposed PCF's birefringence is 10^(-3), which can reach 2 orders higher than that of traditional high birefringence fiber, and this equal diameter circular-hole structure reduces the difficulty of the actual drawing process. The effect of different parameters on the birefringence of this PCF is investigated, and the application of the Sagnac interferometer based on fiber filling technology in temperature sensing is studied. The result shows that the high birefringence PCF can be used in both optical communication and optical sensing fields.展开更多

One fiber loop mirror was formed by inserting a length of high birefringent optical fiber at the input ports of the 3×3 coupler. Splicing the output ports of the 3×3 coupler between them created the other fiber loop mirror. The introduction of this second loop gave rise to two polarization states of light with the same frequency but different optical phase. The mechanical torsion sensing head was located at the second loop and was exhibited an average modulus torsion sensitivity of 7.9×10^-4 degree/dB. The performance of the sensor was not affected by environmental temperature variations. Keywords: Torsion sensor, fiber loop mirror, interferometer展开更多

This paper reports an analysis of MIs in the general elliptically birefringent fibers with the emphasis on investigating the effects of ellipticity angle(0? ≤θ≤ 90?). Both symmetric and antisymmetric CW states are considered. In the anomalous dispersion regime, for the symmetric(antisymmetric) CW states, we show that MI gain increases dramatically(reduces first and then enhances greatly) as the increment of θ. In the normal dispersion regime, for the both CW states, the distinctive feature is that the gain of the MI bands reduces first, vanishes at θ = 45?,reappears across this ellipticity angle, and quickly increases after then.展开更多
