Application of a DFIG (doubly-fed induction generator), which is one of adjustable speed generators, to a gas engine cogeneration system has been investigated. To operate during a blackout as an emergency power supply is one of important roles for the gas engine eogeneration system. In the case of conventional constant speed of synchronous generator, the amount of the allowed step load is limited to around 30% of the rated power. On the other hand, DFIG is expected to increase the amount of step load during the stand-alone operation. In this paper, it has been demonstrated that an increase in the gas engine speed resulted in an increase in the maximum amount of step load using experimental equipment with a real gas engine. It has been concluded that the proposed system can improve the performance of an emergency power supply at step-loading. 展开更多

Deregulation and liberalization of electric power industry, among other things, has created new requirements for the market participants. The power system engineer, operator, and, in general, the market participants are being faced with requirements for which they do not have adequate training and the proper software tools. In this framework, among others, a pure hydro-generation company has to operate its hydro units, throughout the operating day, trying to fulfill the market clearing schedule or a bilateral contract, and modify the program in the intra-day energy markets if necessary (or more suitable) as real-time operation is getting closer. In this scenario the objective is to maximize the hydroelectric power plant profit from selling energy in the spot market or by means of bilateral contracts. In this paper the optimal operation of a head-dependent hydroelectric power station in bilateral market-short-term hourly hydro resource scheduling for energy is obtained. 展开更多

In remote regions with availability of wind energy, a RDG (renewable distributed generation) system is an advantageous alternative to increase the provision of electrical supply. Usually, these systems are structured on the basis of a connection to an existing weak grid. When the grid is out of service, the system may operate in islanding mode, if the RDG configuration allows it, continuing the provision of energy with standard voltage and frequency values. Facing the latter situation, a wind-diesel/gas generation system is proposed, with a conversion and control strategies based on a variable speed wind turbine employing a DFIG (doubly fed induction generator), a SC (ultracapacitor) storage system and a SG (synchronous generator) driven by a diesel/gas engine. 展开更多
