In the present study, the fertility of Yannong S and the japonica reverse TGMS lin...Yannong S, a reverse thermo-sensitive genic male sterile (TGMS) line, is sterile at high temperature and fertile at low temperature. In the present study, the fertility of Yannong S and the japonica reverse TGMS lines derived from it was in- vestigated in Harbin, Heilongjiang from 2013 to 2015. The results showed that Yan- nong S was completely male sterile in July and August (the hottest months of the year in Harbin), and the seed setting rate of bagged panicles was 0. We also in- ferred that the critical temperature for inducing the sterility of Yannong S was higher than 28 ℃. Most of the japonica reverse TGMS lines derived from Yannong S were completely aborted in July and August, with a seed setting rate of 0. It can be con- cluded that the reverse TGMS lines derived from Yannong S are genetically stable lines that have a long period of sterility in cold regions, so they may be the ideal genetic materials for the development and in-situ seed production of japonica hybrid rice.展开更多
We previously functionally characterized a novel marine microbial GDSL lipase MT6 and identified that the stereo-selectivity of MT6 was opposite to that of other common lipases in trans-esterification reactions.Herein...We previously functionally characterized a novel marine microbial GDSL lipase MT6 and identified that the stereo-selectivity of MT6 was opposite to that of other common lipases in trans-esterification reactions.Herein,we have investigated the use of MT6 in stereo-selective biocatalysis through direct hydrolysis reactions.Notably,the stereo-selectivity of MT6 was also demonstrated to be opposite to that of other common lipases in hydrolysis reactions.Parameters,including temperature,organic co-solvents,pH,ionic strength,catalyst loading,substrate concentration,and reaction time,affecting the enzymatic resolution of racemic 1-phenylethyl acetate were further investigated,with the e.e.of the final(S)-l-Phenylethanol product and the conversion being 97%and 28.5%,respectively,after process optimization.The lengths of side chains of 1-phenylethyl esters greatly affected the stereo-selectivity and conversion during kinetic resolutions.MT6 is a novel marine microbial GDSL lipase exhibiting opposite stereo-selectivities than other common lipases in both trans-esterification reactions and hydrolysis reactions.展开更多

In practice it is hard for us to obtain an accurate critical po...A critical porosity model is often used to calculate the dry frame elastic modulus by the rock critical porosity value which is affected by many factors. In practice it is hard for us to obtain an accurate critical porosity value and we can generally take only an empirical critical porosity value which often causes errors. In this paper, we propose a method to obtain the rock critical porosity value by inverting P-wave velocity and applying it to predict S-wave velocity. The applications of experiment and log data both show that the critical porosity inversion method can reduce the uncertainty resulting from using an empirical value in the past and provide the accurate critical porosity value for predicting S-wave velocity which significantly improves the prediction accuracy.展开更多
AIM: To assess the expression of Ki67 as prognosticator in rectal/recto sigmoid cancer.METHODS: Samples from 146 patients with rectal and recto sigmoid cancer were studied for expression of Ki67 and its prognostic sig...AIM: To assess the expression of Ki67 as prognosticator in rectal/recto sigmoid cancer.METHODS: Samples from 146 patients with rectal and recto sigmoid cancer were studied for expression of Ki67 and its prognostic significance in comparison with clinicopathological predictors of survival. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues from 6 (4.1%) patients with T1, 26 (17.8%) with T2, 94 (64.4%) with T3, and 20 (13.7%) with T4 tumors were studied. Ki67 expression was determined immunohistochemically. Samples were divided according to mean value into high (>40%) and low (≤40%) expression. Areas of extensive proliferation (>50%) were defined as 'hot spot' areas. RESULTS: Hot spot areas were present in samples regardless of histopathological grade. Lower TNM and Dukes stage and higher expression of Ki67 and presence of Ki67 hot spot areas in histopathological samples were associated with better survival, whereas no association was observed with histopathological grade (P = 0.78). In Cox multivariate regression analysis, significant prognostic factors were Dukes stage (P<0.001), presence of lymph node metastases (P = 0.015), age (P = 0.035) andpresence of Ki67 hot spot areas (P = 0.044). CONCLUSION: Proliferative activity as measured by Ki67 in rectal cancer is associated with survival improvement compared with patients with low Ki67. Areas of prognostically significant increased proliferation were found independently of histopathological tumor grade.展开更多

The pressure signals were studied by multi-scale and R/S analysis method. Hurst analysis method was applied to analyze multi-fractal characteristics of different scale signals. The results show that the characteristics of mono-fractal under scale 1 and scale 2, and bi-fractal under scale 3?9 are effective in deducing the hydrodynamics in slurry bubbling flow system. The measured pressure signals are decomposed to micro-scale signals, meso-scale signals and macro-scale signals. Micro-scale and macro-scale signals are of mono-fractal characteristics, and meso-scale signals are of bi-fractal characteristics. By analyzing energy distribution of different scale signals,it is shown that pressure fluctuations mainly reflects meso-scale interaction between the particles and the bubble.展开更多

The hydrogen abstraction reaction from H_(2)S by OH is of key importance in understanding of the causes of acid rain,air pollution,and climate change.In this work,the reaction OH+H_(2)S→H_(2)O+SH is investigated on a...The hydrogen abstraction reaction from H_(2)S by OH is of key importance in understanding of the causes of acid rain,air pollution,and climate change.In this work,the reaction OH+H_(2)S→H_(2)O+SH is investigated on a recently developed ab initio-based globally accurate potential energy surface by the time-dependent wave packet approach under a reduceddimensional model.This reaction behaves like a barrier-less reaction at low collision energies and like an activated reaction with a well-defined barrier at high collision energies.Exciting either the symmetric or antisymmetric stretching mode of the molecule H_(2)S enhances the reactivity more than exciting the bending mode,which is rationalized by the coupling strength of each normal mode with the reaction coordinate.In addition,the modespecific rate constant shows a remarkable non-Arrhenius temperature dependence.展开更多

However, in the equal-scale condition, where the scale of a VN is si...Previous Virtual Network (VN) embedding researches mostly focus on developing heuristic algorithms to enhance the efficiency of a physical resource. However, in the equal-scale condition, where the scale of a VN is similar to that of a substrate network, the number of successfully mapped VNs decreases sharply since bottlenecks form easily in the substrate network and disturb the embedding process. In this paper, reversed and bidirectional irrigation methods are proposed for the equal-scale and all-scale conditions. The two proposed methods can be combined with most of the existing heuristic algorithms and map a relatively large number of VNs by reducing the potential substrate bottlenecks. The simulation results show that the reversed irrigation method almost doubles the successfully mapped Revenue than the traditional one in the equal-scale condition. Meanwhile, the bidirectional irrigation method achieves the synthetically best performance in almost all scale conditions.展开更多

Electron spin resonance spectrometry using 5,5′ dimethyl 1 pyrroline N oxide as a scavenger of free radicals indicated that 200 μg/ml of S 3 1 scavenged 1,1 diphenyl 2 picrylhydrazyl radicals completely. 25μg/ml of this compound quenched 100% of superoxide anion and a concentration of 250 μg/ml of S 3 1 quenched 63% of hydroxyl radicals. It was also shown that 3 56 mg/ml of S 3 1 could inhibit lipid peroxidation in microsome fraction from rat liver induced by FeSO 4 and cysteine. These results show that S 3 1 is an effective antioxidant by scavenging free radicals.展开更多

This paper gives the general definitions of these two structures and proposes the reverse engineering analysis of each structure. Furthermore, we evaluate the complexity of the proposed reverse analyses and theoretically prove the effectiveness of the reverse method. For the Twoflsh-like and AES-like algorithrm, the experimental results verify the correctness and efficiency of the reverse analysis. The proposed reverse analysis can efficiently recover the secret S-boxes in the encryp'don algorithms writh SPN and Feistel structures. It can successfully recover the Twoflsh- like algorithm in 2.3 s with 256 faults and the AES- like algorithm in 0.33 s with 23 faults.展开更多
[4Fe-4S]-dependent radical S-adenosylmethionine(SAM)proteins are a superfamily of oxidoreductases that can catalyze a series of challenging transformations using the common 5-d Ado radical intermediate.Although the st...[4Fe-4S]-dependent radical S-adenosylmethionine(SAM)proteins are a superfamily of oxidoreductases that can catalyze a series of challenging transformations using the common 5-d Ado radical intermediate.Although the structures and functions of radical SAM enzymes have been extensively studied,the electronic state-dependent reactions of the[4Fe-4S]clusters in these enzymes are still elusive.Herein we performed QM/MM calculations to elucidate the electronic state-dependent reactivity of the[4Fe-4S]cluster in pyruvate-formate lyase activating enzyme.Our calculations show that the electronic statedependent SAM activation by the[4Fe-4S]clusters in radical SAM enzyme is determined by both the super-exchange and exchange-enhanced reactivities.The super-exchange coupling in the[4Fe-4S]cluster favors the antiferromagnetic coupling between two neighbouring pairs,which results in theα-electron rather than theβ-electron donation from the[4Fe-4S]^(1+)cluster toward the SAM activation.Meanwhile,in the most favorable electronic state for the reductive cleavage of S-C5′,Fe4 would donate itsα-electron to gain the maximum exchange interactions in the Fe4-block.Such super-exchange and exchange-enhanced reactivity could be the general principles for reactivities of[4Fe-4S]cluster in RS enzymes.展开更多

This study screened a series of sensitive biomarkers to constr...Organic pollution is a serious environmental problem in coastal areas and it is important to establish quantitative methods for monitoring this pollution. This study screened a series of sensitive biomarkers to construct an integrated biomarker response (IBR) index using Mytilus edulis. Mussels were exposed to the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon anthracene trader controlled laboratory conditions and the activities of components of the glutathione antioxidant system, and the concentrations of oxidative-damage markers, were measured in the gills and digestive glands. Anthracene exposure resulted in increased levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide radicals (O2-·), indicating that oxidative damage had occurred. Correspondingly, anthracene exposure induced increased activities of glutathione S-transferase (GST), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and reduced glutathione (GSH) in digestive glands, and GPx and glutathione reductase (GR) in gills, consistent with stimulation of the antioxidant system. A field experiment was set up, in which mussels from a relatively clean area were transplanted to a contaminated site. One month later, the activities of GST, GPx and GR had increased in several tissues, particularly in the digestive glands. Based on the laboratory experiment, an IBR, which showed a positive relationship with anthracene exposure, was constructed. The IBR is suggested to be a potentially useful tool for assessing anthracene pollution.展开更多
