Impacts of the annual cycle of background SST in the tropical Pacific on the phase and amplitude of ENSO

The dominant annual cycle of sea surface temperature(SST)in the tropical Pacific exhibits an antisymmetric mode,which explains 83.4%total variance,and serves as a background of El Niño-Southern Oscillation(ENSO).However,there is no consensus yet on its anomalous impacts on the phase and amplitude of ENSO.Based on data during 1982-2022,results show that anomalies of the antisymmetric mode can affect the evolution of ENSO on the interannual scale via Bjerknes feedback,in which the positive(negative)phase of the antisymmetric mode can strengthen El Niño(La Niña)in boreal winter via an earlier(delayed)seasonal cycle transition and larger(smaller)annual mean.The magnitude of the SST anomalies in the equatorial eastern Pacific can reach more than±0.3◦C,regulated by the changes in the antisymmetric mode based on random sensitivity analysis.Results reveal the spatial pattern of the annual cycle associated with the seasonal phase-locking of ENSO evolution and provide new insight into the impact of the annual cycle of background SST on ENSO,which possibly carries important implications for forecasting ENSO. 展开更多

在具有强密度跃层的分层流体中,采用沿水槽中纵剖面对称布置的电导率探头阵列方法,对长径比为7.7的轴对称回转体在5种不同潜深下拖曳运动激发内波时空特性进行了系列实验.结果表明:存在一个与潜深无关的临界转捩Froude数Fr_c=3.64,当Fro... 在具有强密度跃层的分层流体中,采用沿水槽中纵剖面对称布置的电导率探头阵列方法,对长径比为7.7的轴对称回转体在5种不同潜深下拖曳运动激发内波时空特性进行了系列实验.结果表明:存在一个与潜深无关的临界转捩Froude数Fr_c=3.64,当Froude数Fr<Fr_c时,在不同潜深下,内波相关速度均与物体运动速度一致,体积效应内波为主控内波,但内波反对称度随Fr增大而增大,表明尾迹效应内波的影响也随着增大;同时,存在一个内波峰值Froude数Fr_p≈1.33,当Fr<Fr_p时,无量纲内波最大峰-峰幅值随Fr增大而增大,而当Fr>Fr_p时,无量纲内波最大峰-峰幅值随Fr增大而减小.当Fr>Fr_c时,在不同潜深下,内波相关速度均小于模型运动速度,其相关速度Froude数Fr_(iw)均在0.7~1.4之间的一个条带内变化,内波反对称度近似在某个小于0.5的常数附近波动,尾迹效应内波中对称部分略为占优,而且尾迹效应内波中对称和反对称部分的水平张角均近似为20.6°;同时,无量纲内波最大峰-峰幅值均随Fr增大而近似线性增大,而且其线性增大的斜率与潜深之间近似满足指数衰减关系.特别地,本文工作表明,现有文献认为尾迹效应内波关于轴对称回转体纵剖面是对称的先验假定是不合理的. 展开更多

A novel optical microfiber asymmetric Fabry-Perot interferometric (MAFPI) sensor is developed for simultaneous measurement of force and temperature. The MAFPI structure is formed by a weak fiber Bragg grating (FBG), a section of the microfiber, and a cleaved fiber end surface. The narrowband beam reflected from the low-reflectivity FBG and the broadband beam from the Fresnel reflection interfere lead to its unique sensing performance. The force sensing is performed by detecting the bending-loss induced fringe contrast changes, while the Bragg wavelength shift is employed for temperature measurement. Sensitivities of 9.8pm/℃ and 0.025dB/μN were obtained experimentally for temperature and force measurements, respectively. 展开更多
