The nature and framework of the valley economy model are described and the development of the mod...A case study is presented of a regional development model for valley economies in the mountain areas of Beijing, China. The nature and framework of the valley economy model are described and the development of the model, which is specific to the mountain areas of Beijing, is analyzed. Five different valley economy models applied in the Beijing mountain areas are compared. The major purpose of the valley economy model is to develop the regional economy, including the selection of appropriate industries, the allocation of industrial space, the establishment of supply chains and the integration of various industries. Pilot experiments using the valley economy model have been conducted in seven counties(districts) in Beijing: Pinggu, Huairou, Changping, Mentougou, and Fangshan districts, and Yanqing and Miyun counties. Five models for developing the Beijing mountain areas have been explored, including: creative cultural industries, characteristic industry clusters, the promotion of large tourist areas, natural scenic tourism and folk cultural tourism. Each model has its own unique features and potential to help in the regional development of mountain areas.展开更多

Manufacturing industry is an important symbol which weighs a local economy comprehensive strength and modernized level, and a mighty manufacturing industry is a reliable guarantee which realizes the industry moderniza...Manufacturing industry is an important symbol which weighs a local economy comprehensive strength and modernized level, and a mighty manufacturing industry is a reliable guarantee which realizes the industry modernization. The manufacturing industry in eastern coastal provinces and cities of China, including Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai and Guangdong, holds a quite high proportion, and is competitive. But as to the interior, the manufacturing industry competitiveness of five provinces and cities actually has obviously gradient difference. The concrete profession＆amp;#39;s competitiveness also has the characteristic respectively. This paper analyzes the competitiveness of manufacturing industry in five provinces and cities by the shift-share analysis, obtains a conclusion that Shandong and Zhejiang have the competitive advantage in the traditional manufacturing industry, that Jiangsu＆amp;#39;s and Guangdong＆amp;#39;s competitiveness lies in capital, technology-intensive industry, but that Shanghai manufacturing industry＆amp;#39;s competitive advantage is not obvious, and then proposes strategy to promote the manufacturing industry in the eastern coastal provinces and cities.展开更多
The growth of regional economy in China was stable with a slight decline in2013.Growths in major economic indicators,namely the industrial added value,the total fixed asset investment,the total retail sales of consume...The growth of regional economy in China was stable with a slight decline in2013.Growths in major economic indicators,namely the industrial added value,the total fixed asset investment,the total retail sales of consumer goods,and the total volume of import and export trade differ across the eastern,central,western and northeastern regions,but the overall difference is small.The regional economic development still faces certain problems,such as unbalanced development among regions,insufficient implementation of development planning,lack of in-depth regional cooperation,irrational competition of development of new zones,and uncoordinated policies on ecological progress from different government authorities.This paper suggests that China should formulate zoning policies and supporting measures to accelerate the development of key economic belts,promote new urbanization,transform the old industrial bases,strengthen joint prevention of regional environmental pollution and promote the opening up of the inland areas to the western regions.展开更多
